GENEVA, October 22, 2015 -The spokesman for United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon quietly announced on the UN website that UNRWA employees have \u201cin a number of cases\u201d beeen subjected to disciplinary action, including suspension and loss of pay, following an investigation that verified evidence published by UN Watch \u2014 in one report last week, and another in September \u2014 of incitement to anti-Semitic violence committed by at least 22 UNRWA employees. UNRWA added that it \u201ccondemns and will not tolerate anti-Semitism or racism in any form.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Curiously, UNRWA\u2019s admission was made public only as a bracketed addition buried deep in a UN transcript, and not posted as a stand-alone statement by the UN, or indeed anywhere at all on the UNRWA website.<\/span><\/p>\n

UN Watch welcomed the announcement, yet noted that \u201cthe UN statement hides more than it reveals,\u201d said Hillel Neuer, executive director of the Geneva-based non-governmental monitoring group.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to know, first, which of the UNRWA teachers identified in our reports were suspended, what were the findings, and whether the UN investigations found any additional incitement to anti-Semitic violence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSecond,\u201d said Neuer, \u201cIn light of the above, UN Watch is demanding a full apology from UNRWA spokseman Chris Gunness for his McCarthyite tirade against what he called UN Watch\u2019s \u2018baseless allegations about antisemitism\u2019.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Gunness famously launched into a frenzied attack on UN Watch, issuing an \u201cappeal to journalists\u201d to ignore what he insisted was a \u201cnon-story\u201d:<\/span>
\n \u2022\u201cAppeal to journalists: please don\u2019t turn UN Watch baseless allegations about anti-semitism into a \u2018he said she said\u2019 story. It is a non-story.\u201d<\/em><\/span>
\n \u2022\u201cUN Watch makes a fool of itself \u2026 Credibility dead in water. Will anyone believe them again\u201d?<\/em><\/span>
