Sweden and the EU have a major duty to stand up for the values of the freedom and equal rights \u200eof all people upon which our societies are based when we formulate and conduct our foreign policy. \u200eSweden is also working to strengthen a culture of dialogue and promote democratic developments so as \u200eto undermine the conditions that foster extremism,\u201d Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom said \u200eon International Holocaust Remembrance Day. \u200e<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">That would be the same Wallstrom who excuses and justifies terrorism against Israelis and who recently \u200ecalled for an investigation to determine if Israel had been committing \u201cextrajudicial killings\u201d during \u200ethe recent terror onslaught from the Palestinian Authority. As many Israelis pointed out on social media following her \u200eremarks, it hardly gets more hypocritical than this.\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">However, Wallstrom\u2019s remarks really are quite representative of Europe, which wallows in \u200ecommemorations of dead Jews; however, when it comes to the living \u2014 not so much. This can be especially \u200eprevalent among those who pride themselves on having saved Jews during World War II, such \u200eas Danes. In one exchange, which took place on a Danish journalist\u2019s Facebook page, the response of \u200eseveral of his Danish readers to his latest status updates about murdered Israelis in Judea and Samaria \u200ewas that these \u201csettlers\u201d were \u201cwar criminals\u201d and \u201cthieves\u201d and consequently had no right of self-\u200edefense. Implicitly, no right to live either. Although extreme, you would be surprised (or perhaps not so \u200esurprised) at just how many Europeans hold such views.\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">While commemorating dead Jews from the Shoah, Europe welcomes one of the most active regimes \u200ewhen it comes to Holocaust denial. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani is being welcomed in Paris and in \u200eRome. In the latter city, the government decided to humiliate itself completely by covering up nude \u200estatues in the center of Rome, so that Rouhani\u2019s Muslim sensitivities would not be offended by the works \u200eof Michelangelo and Bernini. The move was widely ridiculed across the political spectrum in Italy. \u200eMeanwhile, no Italian seemed bothered by Iran\u2019s proclamation of its annual mock-the-Holocaust-\u200ebecause- we-deny-it-ever-took-place contest, in which the cartoonist who most viciously mocks the Nazi \u200egenocide is awarded $50,000. \u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">While commemorating dead Jews from the Shoah, Europe is busier than ever conspiring against the living \u200eJews in Israel. \u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Europe\u2019s funding of PA terror is legendary. \u201cWe demand that they [donor countries] monitor the use of \u200ethe money and make sure it is not used to fund terrorism or incitement. It is time for the world to stop \u200eincitement and terrorism by truly supervising its donations [to the Palestinians],\u201d Deputy Foreign Minister \u200eTzipi Hotovely said Sunday in a meeting with foreign dignitaries in Jerusalem. She also told them that the \u200estipends paid by the Palestinian Authority to terrorists\u2019 families amounts to some $75 million a year \u2014 \u200eabout 20% of the donations funneled to the PA from Western nations and bodies. Hotovely said she \u200ebelieved these benefits may now even exceed 20% of donor funds. Hotovely told the meeting that per \u200ecapita, the Palestinian Authority receives far more foreign aid than any other country in the world \u2014 \u200eroughly $800 million a year on average. Palestinians receive assistance to the tune of $170 per person, \u200ewhile Syrians, for example, receive an average of $106 per person.\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The labeling of products from Judea and Samaria is another measure that Europe has lined up against Israel. \u200eA third one is the European Union\u2019s funding of illegal building by the Palestinian Authority in Area C. As \u200elate as last Wednesday, the European Union reached an agreement with the Palestinian Ministry of Local \u200eGovernment, in which the EU agreed to provide 9.5 million euros ($10 million) in grants towards \u201csocial infrastructure \u200eprojects\u201d in Area C. In plain English, this means more illegal building.\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Celebrating dead Jews while inciting against the living, however, is not just a European pastime. \u201cThe \u200eHolocaust was a colossal crime. \u2026 This year, we focus on \u2018the Holocaust and Human Dignity.\u2019 We link \u200eHolocaust remembrance with the founding principles of the United Nations, as expressed in the United \u200eNations Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As we do, we are reminded of our \u200eshared obligation to assure everyone the right to live free from discrimination and with equal protection \u200eunder the law.
