Not Anymore!<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Miko\u0142aj Gli\u0144ski<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"height: 15px; background: #d0e6fa; width: 710px;\" \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/culture.pl\/sites\/default\/files\/images\/imported\/inne\/remember_x.jpg\" alt=\"Remember application from Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum\" width=\"100%\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>The new Remember application launched by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in February 2016; photo: www.auschwitz.org<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>A new application will help avoid the use of the notorious and historically incorrect terms \u2018Polish concentration camps\u2019 and \u2018Polish death camps\u2019 in written texts, and hopefully make this mistake a thing of the past.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Remember application was designed by the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum in co-operation with the Warsaw advertising agency FCB to help avoid the use of the confusing and incorrect terms \u2018Polish concentration camps\u2019 or \u2018Polish death camps\u2019. The programme searches electronic texts for these terms and suggests appropriate, historically-correct wording, such as \u2018Nazi German concentration and extermination camp\u2019 or \u2018Nazi camp in occupied Poland\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The application so far works in 16 languages and can be installed on PCs running Windows or Mac OS. As Agnieszka Heidrich from FCB Warsaw explains:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 90px;\"><em>Upon careful analysis of where and by whom the phrase \u2018Polish death camps\u2019 was used, it turned out that those who disseminated this error were mostly journalists. Although we are aware of cases of intentional manipulation, and then a refusal to rectify it, these errors often stem from haste and a lack of knowledge. This was the inspiration for us to develop the Remember application.<\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"content\" class=\" content-alignment&lt;br \/&gt;&lt;br \/&gt; \">\n<div id=\"watch-description\" class=\"yt-uix-button-panel\">\n<div id=\"watch-description-text\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4C4_VkUxg3o\" width=\"680\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The application comes in the wake of the 71st anniversary of the liberation of the Nazi German concentration and extermination camp Auschwitz. As Piotr Cywi\u0144ski, the director of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum, explains:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 90px;\"><em>We are sending this application to journalists accredited for the commemoration event. We also encourage editorial teams, institutions, and schools around the world to install it on their computers.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Cywi\u0144ski explained also the historical context and contemporary reasons behind the idea:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left; padding-left: 90px;\"><em>The Auschwitz camp was built by the German state on the territory of occupied Poland which was forcibly incorporated into the Third Reich. It is obvious for all those who visit the authentic site of the Memorial or read our publications. We also underline this through our activities on the Internet.
