{"id":52136,"date":"2017-05-11T17:05:24","date_gmt":"2017-05-11T15:05:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=52136"},"modified":"2017-05-11T06:02:42","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T04:02:42","slug":"15-05-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=52136","title":{"rendered":"AP refutes claims it helped Nazis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.israelnationalnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.reunion68.com\/Biuletyn\/img\/arutz.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"30%\" \/><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.israelnationalnews.com\/News\/News.aspx\/229470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AP refutes claims it helped Nazis<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>JTA\u00a0&amp;<\/strong><strong> Arutz Sheva Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"background: #d0e6fa; width: 710px; height: 15px;\" \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Associated Press publishes review concluding its staff did not help the Nazis or their cause during World War II.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/f.a7.org\/pictures\/770\/770589.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Associated Press offices in ManhattanReuters<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Associated Press has concluded following a review that its staff did not help the Nazis or their cause during World War II.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">German historian Harriet Scharnberg last year revealed archival material which detailed how AP struck a deal with Adolf Hitler&#8217;s regime for access inside Nazi-ruled Germany.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In an article for the Studies in Contemporary History journal, Scharnberg revealed that in return for that exclusive access &#8211; by 1935 all other international news agencies had been forced to leave Germany &#8211; AP signed up to what was known as the Schriftleitergesetz, or editor\u2019s law, which meant it pledged to toe the Nazi party line and not publish any material &#8220;calculated to weaken the strength of the Reich abroad or at home.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On Wednesday, however, AP refuted those claims in its, though the news agency did acknowledge that German staff members clashed with propaganda officials, \u201cwith some doing a better job of resisting Nazi demands than others.\u201d It also acknowledged that AP paid the salaries of several photo service employees who were drafted into propaganda units covering the fighting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">But given the restrictions of operating under the totalitarian regime, AP acted as \u201cforthrightly and independently as possible,\u201d the review said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe recognize that AP should have done some things differently during this period, for example protesting when AP photos were exploited by the Nazis for propaganda within Germany and refusing to employ German photographers with active political affiliations and loyalties,\u201d the report says.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cHowever, suggestions that AP at any point sought to help the Nazis or their heinous cause are simply wrong.
