Photo: Krokodyl via Wikimedia Commons.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>A number of pro-Israel groups in the US have expressed disappointment over President Donald Trump\u2019s decision to sign a waiver on Thursday that delayed the potential move of the American Embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by at least another six months.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe are certain that the Trump administration is very well aware that no Israeli prime minister will ever cede sovereignty over Jerusalem,\u201d Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper \u2014 the dean and associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center \u2014 stated. \u201cThe city is and will remain the undivided capital of Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cNext week\u2019s 50th anniversary of the reunification of the city during the June 1967 Six-Day War marks a half-century of full access to holy sites of all faiths in the Old City, a fact that should be acknowledged and celebrated by religious leaders of all Abrahamic faiths,\u201d they continued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Christians United for Israel (CUFI) issued a statement with similar sentiments, saying, \u201cThe president knows that Jerusalem is the eternal and undivided capital of Israel and we strongly believe that the location of our embassy should reflect that reality.\u201d CUFI noted it remained \u201chopeful\u201d Trump would ultimately \u201cfulfill his campaign pledge\u201d and relocate the embassy to Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations Chairman Stephen M. Greenberg and Executive Vice Chairman and CEO Malcolm Hoenlein stated, \u201cMoving the embassy to Israel\u2019s declared capital would rectify a historic wrong, and would not prejudge the outcome of negotiations as it would be located in western Jerusalem, universally recognized as part of Israel. We hope that, as indicated in the announcement of the waiver, this decision will be reviewed in the coming months.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Morton A. Klein \u2014 the president of the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) \u2014 said the signing of the waiver \u201crewards terrorist threats and damages peace prospects.\u201d Klein urged Trump to \u201ccommit to a prompt, firm deadline\u201d for moving the embassy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Senator Charles Schumer of New York \u2014 the Democratic minority leader \u2014 stated he believed Jerusalem was the \u201cundivided capital of Israel\u201d and asked, \u201cWill those who criticized [former] President [Barack] Obama for not moving the embassy make their voices just as loud and just as strong when it comes to President Trump\u2019s failure to move the embassy?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Meanwhile, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat said, \u201cI regret President Trump\u2019s decision to sign the waiver but am certain that he will keep his word and bring the US embassy to its rightful place \u2014 Jerusalem, the capital of Israel.
