O\u015bwiadczenie Centrum Bada\u0144 nad Zag\u0142ad\u0105 \u017byd\u00f3w wobec bezpardonowego i absurdalnego ataku skierowanego przez Redut\u0119 Dobrego Imienia \u2013 Polsk\u0105 Lig\u0119 przeciw Znies\u0142awieniom wobec naszego kolegi i wsp\u00f3\u0142pracownika prof. Jana Grabowskiego<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reduta Dobrego Imienia \u2013 Polska Liga przeciw Znies\u0142awieniom 7 czerwca w swoim o\u015bwiadczeniu zaatakowa\u0142a naszego koleg\u0119 i wsp\u00f3\u0142pracownika w spos\u00f3b tyle\u017c bezpardonowy, co absurdalny. Nie mo\u017cemy pozostawi\u0107 tego ataku bez odpowiedzi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Os\u0301wiadczenie Reduty \u201ew sprawie dzia\u0142alnos\u0301ci Jana Grabowskiego\u201d oraz \u201eStanowisko naukowc\u00f3w polskich skupionych wok\u00f3\u0142 Reduty\u201d poparte 134 podpisami dyskredytuje zatem za jednym zamachem i Jana Grabowskiego, i wszystkich historyk\u00f3w na ca\u0142ym \u015bwiecie zajmuj\u0105cych si\u0119 badaniem Holokaustu, uznaj\u0105c ich za \u015blepych, g\u0142uchych i ma\u0142o rozgarni\u0119tych. Trzeba przyzna\u0107, \u017ce to szar\u017ca i\u015bcie u\u0142a\u0144ska, ale szar\u017ca z szablami na czo\u0142gi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sygnatariusze listu pisz\u0105, \u017ce \u201eGrabowski nie przestrzega podstawowych zasad rzetelnos\u0301ci badacza\u201d, \u017ce \u201ebuduje konstrukcje propagandowe\u201d, zamiast \u201ed\u0105\u017cy\u0107 do prawdy\u201d, \u017ce \u201eeliminuje kluczowe fakty\u201d, \u017ce to, co robi \u201enie ma nic wsp\u00f3lnego z nauka\u0328\u201d, \u017ce jest \u201erozsadnikiem k\u0142amstwa w mie\u0328dzynarodowym z\u0307yciu publicznym i naukowym\u201d, czym sprzeniewierza si\u0119 \u201epowo\u0142aniu naukowca\u201d. Tyle pi\u0119knych s\u0142\u00f3w, szczeg\u00f3lnie du\u017co s\u0142owa \u201eprawda\u201d, a jednak ca\u0142y ten wyw\u00f3d ma\u0142o ma wsp\u00f3lnego z prawd\u0105. Trudno udowadnia\u0107, \u017ce nie jest si\u0119 wielb\u0142\u0105dem, dlatego w tym li\u015bcie czyni\u0107 tego nie b\u0119dziemy. Jeste\u015bmy natomiast gotowi na akademick\u0105 debat\u0119 z kompetentnymi historykami.<\/span><\/p>\n

W\u015br\u00f3d 134 sygnatariuszy nie ma nikogo, kto zajmowa\u0142by si\u0119 histori\u0105 Holokaustu. Ci wszyscy ekonomi\u015bci, j\u0119zykoznawcy, onkolodzy, chemicy, fizycy j\u0105drowi, in\u017cynierowie, konstruktorzy urz\u0105dze\u0144 elektromechanicznych, geolodzy \u015brodowiskowi, etnomuzykolodzy, teatrolodzy oraz ksi\u0119\u017ca profesorowie wyst\u0119puj\u0105 w roli specjalist\u00f3w od Holokaustu, a nie potrafi\u0105 nawet poprawnie zacytowa\u0107 \u017ar\u00f3de\u0142, na kt\u00f3re si\u0119 powo\u0142uj\u0105, ani poda\u0107 poprawnej nazwy organizacji ratuj\u0105cej \u017byd\u00f3w, na kt\u00f3r\u0105 si\u0119 powo\u0142uj\u0105.<\/span><\/p>\n

Na ko\u0144cu pani Mira Wszelaka, prezes Reduty, pisze: \u201eMam nadzieje\u0328, z\u0307e pseudofakty, (\u2026) nie zasta\u0328pia\u0328 prawdy\u201d. W pe\u0142ni podzielamy trosk\u0119 pani prezes o prawd\u0119 i dzielimy razem z ni\u0105 nadziej\u0119, \u017ce pseudo-fakty nigdy prawdy nie zast\u0105pi\u0105. Takie w\u0142a\u015bnie przes\u0142anie przy\u015bwieca ca\u0142ej dzia\u0142alno\u015bci badawczej i edukacyjnej prof. Jana Grabowskiego.<\/span><\/p>\n

In defence of Jan Grabowski’s good name<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 7 June the Polish League Against Defamation in it’s statement attacked our colleague and associate in a manner as brutal as it is absurd. We cannot leave this attack without a response.<\/span><\/p>\n

The League clearly declares the intention to question Prof. Grabowski’s scholarly competence, academic integrity and moral decency, as well as to correct the error of historians from all over the world, who \u2013 according to the League \u2013 are mistaken in regarding him as an ” inter-nationally-renowned Holocaust researcher “, which the League frankly acknowledges. The League’s statement “concerning the activities of Jan Grabowski ” and the ” The standpoint of Polish scholars affiliated with the Polish League Against Defamation”, supported by 134 signatures thus discredits at once both Jan Grabowski and all the historians all over the world that study the Holocaust, treating them as blind, deaf and not very intelligent. Clearly a charge of a light brigade.<\/span><\/p>\n

The signatories say that “Grabowski fails to adhere to the fundamental rules of re-searcher\u2019s credibility”, that he “creates propagandistic constructions” instead of providing “an honest picture, that he “eliminates crucial facts”, that what he does “has nothing to do with science”, that he “a carrier for lies in the international public and academic life”, thus he “runs against the principles of the academic vocation”. The signatories of the letter: “strongly op-pose Jan Grabowski\u2019s dissemination of a false and wrongful image of Poland and Polish people during World War II in placing the blame for the Holocaust upon the Polish Nation”. They “urge Jan Grabowski to stop slandering the Polish Nation and adopt an attitude befitting a re-searcher, which is to serve the truth.”<\/span><\/p>\n

So many beautiful words, particularly frequent is the occurrence of “truth”, but the entire argument is hardly accurate. It is pointless to try to demonstrate that “one is not a camel”, as a Polish saying goes, so we will not. We are however ready to engage in a scholarly debate with competent historians.<\/span><\/p>\n

None of the 134 signatories is a Holocaust historian. All these economists, linguists, oncologists, chemists, nuclear physicists, engineers, constructors of electromechanical appliances, environmental geologists, ethnomusicologists, theatrologists and priest professors present themselves as Holocaust experts, but cannot even quote sources they refer to or to give the correct name of the organisation that rescued Jews, which they mention.<\/span><\/p>\n

In conclusion, Mira Wszelaka, the League’s president writes: “I hope that the pseudo-facts that Grabowski is trying to promote will not replace the truth.\u201d We totally agree with the president’s care for truth and we share her hope that pseudo-facts will never replace the truth. This precisely is the message of Professor Grabowski’s research and educational activity.<\/span><\/p>\n
