US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley expressed frustration on Tuesday with the UN Security Council\u2019s attitude toward Iran and its terrorist proxies in the Middle East.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTruth be told, the Security Council often makes the Middle East more complicated than it actually is,\u201d Haley said at the Security Council\u2019s monthly meeting on the region. \u201cIt obsesses over Israel. And it refuses to acknowledge one of the chief sources of conflict and killing in the Middle East \u2014 that is, Iran and its partner militia, Lebanese Hezbollah.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Haley began her remarks by affirming that the US \u201cshares everyone\u2019s concern about the heightened tensions in Jerusalem.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAll parties should work to reduce these tensions, and we offer whatever assistance we can in helping to do this,\u201d she stated. But, she added, \u201cI am going to refrain from further comment on this sensitive issue in the hope that wisdom will prevail over emotions.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Turning the Security Council\u2019s attention to Iran and Hezbollah, Haley asserted that \u201ctogether with its Iranian patron, Hezbollah seeks to cause destruction throughout the Middle East.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSome see \u2018two wings\u2019 to Hezbollah \u2014 a terrorist wing, and a political and social wing,\u201d she told the Security Council. \u201cThis is a convenient excuse for Hezbollah, but it is dangerous fiction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Haley excoriated the Security Council for its timidity in confronting Hezbollah\u2019s multiple violations of its resolutions on Lebanon \u2014 including the core demand that Hezbollah disarm, as the Lebanese Army is regarded as the only legitimate military force in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor too long, the Security Council has chosen to pretend that the status quo is acceptable for the people of Lebanon,\u201d she said. \u201cIt is not. Hezbollah\u2019s illegal weapons build-up is putting the people of Lebanon in great danger.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Haley continued: \u201cRemarkably, this council cannot even bring itself to use the word \u2018Hezbollah\u2019 in recent resolutions or statements on Lebanon. Many here are happy to name Israel, time after time, but Hezbollah is somehow off limits. It\u2019s absurd. Worse than that, it\u2019s dangerous.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe must begin to get serious about enforcing our own resolutions that have been routinely violated by Iran and Hezbollah,\u201d Haley concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n
