The rabidly anti-Zionist and pro-BDS group that styles itself \u201cJewish Voice for Peace\u201d (JVP) took a step toward open antisemitism this week with the release of a video that blames \u201cJewish institutions\u201d in America for a \u201cdeadly exchange\u201d between US and Israeli law enforcement that has supposedly resulted in the fatal shootings of African-Americans by police officers.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a comprehensive analysis of the video, Andrew Bennett \u2014 a Berlin-based academic who monitors JVP\u2019s activities \u2014 noted that while the group has a long history of \u201cindulging\u201d antisemites, its actions could no longer be explained in terms of its long-established role in shielding the BDS movement from accusations of antisemitism.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn June 4, 2017, JVP intentionally targeted a group of queer youth in a perfidious counter-protest of the Celebrate Israel Parade [in New York City],\u201d Bennett wrote. \u201cThe incident was covered fairly extensively in the media, and there is no particular reason to recount the full details here. What went unnoticed but nevertheless caught my eye was what was emblazoned on the JVP demonstrators\u2019 shirts: \u2018DEADLY EXCHANGE.’\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Bennett explained that \u201cDeadly Exchange\u201d was \u201ca JVP campaign to blame Jews for police violence in the United States.\u201d Highlighting the fact that police exchange programs exist between the US and Israel \u2014 as both nations also have with other countries \u2014 JVP\u2019s video stressed the role of Jewish groups (\u201cthe majority of the programs are run by Jewish organizations,\u201d the video claims) in running and funding the exchanges.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the heart of this theory of a \u201cmoneyed Jewish conspiracy to murder innocent Americans,\u201d Bennett said, was JVP\u2019s accusation that police tactics in American inner cities were determined by \u201cIsraeli military personnel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Deadly Exchange campaign video continues with a montage of guilt-by-association to blame Israel for the NYPD\u2019s Islamophobic policing, the Trump administration\u2019s increases in deportation rates, and police brutalization of black and brown communities,\u201d Bennett said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf there was any doubt as to the antisemitic conspiracism of the video, the narrator\u2019s answer to the question \u2018who is responsible for this deadly exchange?\u2019 should remove all traces of it: Those responsible, those deserving of blame, are Jewish organizations,\u201d Bennett concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite its self-description as a \u201cJewish\u201d organization, JVP stands completely outside the common institutions of the US Jewish community. A recent examination of its funding sources by the Israeli watchdog NGO Monitor \u2014 based entirely on publicly-available information \u2014 demonstrated that JVP \u201creceived funding from a broad range of foundations and charitable trusts, many of which, unsurprisingly, also contribute to other organizations promoting active anti-Israel agendas.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe largest donations originated with Rockefeller Brothers Fund, Tides Foundation, the Firedoll Foundation, Schwab Charitable Foundation, and the Jewish Communal Fund. Most grants were for amounts less than $30,000,\u201d the NGO Monitor report \u2014 \u201cUncovering the JVP Funding Network\u201d \u2014 noted.<\/span><\/p>\n

JVP\u2019s largest single donor is the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, which provided a two-year grant of $140,000 in 2015. The fund said at the time that its donation was for \u201cgeneral support\u201d of JVP\u2019s \u201cProgram Goal\u201d to \u201cAdvance Just and Durable Peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
