(photo credit:REUTERS\/LUCY NICHOLSON\/FILE PHOTO)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Tom Petty, whose hits such as \u201cAmerican Girl,\u201d \u201cFree Falling\u201d and \u201cI Won\u2019t Back Down\u201d made him one of the biggest rock stars of all time, passed away Monday at 66.<\/p>\n<p>In the course of his decades of touring the world, Petty was bound to end up playing in Israel \u2014 and he did for the first time in September 1987, at the start of his \u201cTemple in Flames\u201d tour. Earlier that year he had released \u201cLet Me Up (I\u2019ve Had Enough),\u201d his seventh album with his band, the Heartbreakers.<\/p>\n<p>In a show called \u201cRock Israel,\u201d MTV chronicled part of Petty\u2019s trip to the Holy Land, which the rocker described as a whirlwind.
