{"id":57747,"date":"2017-11-23T18:00:40","date_gmt":"2017-11-23T16:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=57747"},"modified":"2017-11-23T09:15:08","modified_gmt":"2017-11-23T07:15:08","slug":"01-00-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=57747","title":{"rendered":"Knesset advances bill to crack down on BDS activists within Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/worldisraelnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/worldisraelnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/win-logo7.png\" width=\"30%\" \/><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/worldisraelnews.com\/knesset-advances-bill-crack-bds-activists-within-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Knesset advances bill to crack down on BDS activists within Israel<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Jack Ben-David<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"background: #d0e6fa; width: 710px; height: 15px;\" \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/worldisraelnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/F150211MA005-750x400.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>(Miriam Alster\/Flash90)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>\u201cThey don\u2019t want peace, they simply want to delegitimize the State of Israel and destroy it as the Jewish homeland,\u201d said one of the bill\u2019s sponsors.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israeli lawmakers moved ahead in the Knesset Tuesday with legislation designed to target Israeli activists and companies that \u201csystematically\u201d call for boycotts, divestments and sanctions against Israel, making them liable to pay hefty penalties of up to NIS 500,000.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Spearheaded by Likud MK Yoav Kisch, the bill is the latest legal tool being sharpened by the Israeli government to puncture the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS), which has been inflated in recent years by the endorsement of prominent artists and musicians such as Roger Waters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The new bill, which passed its initial reading by a vote of 60-40, is also the successor of a similar bill ratified in 2011 which enabled companies to demand compensation from activists calling for the boycott of Israeli firms located in various parts of Israel, including Judea and Samaria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The law, however, was partially defanged by the High Court of Justice two years ago after it scrapped a clause allowing for the imposition of unlimited fines on the pro-BDS activists or companies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Seeking to remedy the shortfall, the new bill sets a limit of up to NIS 100,000 fines for such companies without proof of damages.
