A multiplatform screen adaptation of Hebrew University history professor Yuval Noah Harari\u2019s bestselling 2011 book\u00a0Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind<\/em><\/span>
\n\u00a0is planned by British film producer Sir Ridley Scott (\u201cBlade Runner,\u201d \u201cAlien\u201d) and Oscar-winning documentarian Asif Kapadia, according to Hollywood Reporter.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Sapiens<\/em>, Harari posits that the human species \u201cbegan as an insignificant animal and is now on the verge of becoming a god\u201d and asks readers to reconsider the role of human beings in the past, present and future.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt is a book that changes how you see the world and our adaptation should do the same, to serve as a wake-up call for who we are, where we have come from and where we are heading,\u201d Kapadia said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scott added that he and Kapadia, who secured the rights to the book in 2017, believe a visual version of Sapiens \u201chas all the elements to be massively entertaining as well as historically important.\u201d<\/span>
\nLast month, ISRAEL21c\u00a0reported<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0on the Haifa-born Harari\u2019s speech at an international conference, \u201cWhat Makes Us Human: From Genes to Machine,\u201d held at Hebrew University\u2019s Edmond and Lily Safra Center for Brain Sciences.<\/span><\/p>\n
