Celebrated novelist J. K. Rowling has won plaudits from Jewish Twitter users after her latest online battle with supporters of Jeremy Corbyn \u2014 the far-left leader of the British Labour Party hit by yet another antisemitism scandal last week after he accused \u201cZionists\u201d of having no appreciation of \u201cEnglish irony\u201d despite \u201chaving lived in this country all their lives.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The British author \u2014 who created the Harry Potter series and also writes crime fiction under the pseudonym \u201cRobert Galbraith\u201d \u2014 has long been a critic of Corbyn, whose three years at the helm of the Labour Party have mired the party in an unprecedented crisis with the Jewish community in the UK.<\/span><\/p>\n

In a Twitter exchange with a supporter of Corbyn on Sunday, Rowling quoted extensively from the classic 1946 essay by the French leftist philosopher, Jean-Paul Sartre, titled, \u201cAntisemite and Jew.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey (antisemites) delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert,\u201d read one quote from Sartre selected by Rowling.<\/span><\/p>\n

The argument started after a pro-Corbyn Twitter user, Simon Maginn, aggressively challenged a post about Corbyn from a Jewish user. \u201cExplain your patently synthetic outrage,\u201d Maginn demanded.<\/span><\/p>\n

Apparently reading the exchange, Rowling leapt in, telling Maginn, \u201cHow dare you tell a Jew that their outrage is \u2018patently synthetic\u2019? How dare you demand that they lay bare their pain and fear on demand, for your personal evaluation?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Rowling continued: \u201cWhat other minority would you speak to this way?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
