A bright white prayer book, published in 1922 and owned by American bombshell Marilyn Monroe, will be\u00a0sold at auction<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0on November 12. Jonathan Greenstein, of the auction house J. Greenstein & Company, says he\u2019s sold Sammy Davis Jr.\u2019s menorah and Alan Dershowitz\u2019s judaica, \u201cBut nothing like this \u2014 Marilyn Monroe\u2019s personal siddur.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Monroe hitched her wagon to the Jewish star in 1956, converting when she married playwright Arthur Miller and going on to practice Judaism through the rest of her life, even after the dissolution of the marriage.\u00a0The Washington Post reports<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0that Monroe marked up her prayerbook \u2014 some pages read \u201comit\u201d or \u201cskip\u201d in the starlet\u2019s hand. Does that mean Marilyn Monroe didn\u2019t say\u00a0asher yatzar<\/em>? You only need a few thousand bucks to find out, according to Greenstein, who estimates that it could go for a minimum of $7,000, though more seems likely \u2014 in 2010, an\u00a0x-ray of Monroe\u2019s chest<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0sold for $45,000.<\/span><\/p>\n

The wear and tear on the prayerbook suggests that Monroe used it regularly \u2014 she chose to convert despite lack of pressure from Miller and was open about her love of Judaism. She was drawn,\u00a0her rabbi Robert E. Goldburg said<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, to \u201cthe rationalism of Judaism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
