Photo courtesy of SpaceIL<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A time capsule containing three disks with hundreds of digital files of documents including Israel\u2019s Declaration of Independence, flag and national anthem, the Bible, and children\u2019s drawings will fly to the moon aboard the Beresheet (Genesis)&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.israel21c.org\/21see\/one-small-step-for-man-a-giant-step-for-the-hevre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>unmanned spacecraft<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&nbsp;in February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israeli nonprofit&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.spaceil.com\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>SpaceIL<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&nbsp;and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) presented the time capsule on December 17 at IAI\u2019s Space Division in Yehud, where the finished spacecraft is awaiting a specific launch date.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Beresheet will get a ride to the moon alongside other satellites as a secondary payload on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket taking off from Cape Canaveral, Florida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The time capsule, along with the spacecraft, will remain on the moon indefinitely after completing Israel\u2019s first lunar mission. The hope is that the treasure trove of Israeli memorabilia will be found by future space travelers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.israel21c.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/spaceil-Wiess.jpg\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>An Israeli child\u2019s drawing going into the time capsule aboard SpaceIL\u2019s moon mission. Photo by Yoav Weiss<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Other items in the time capsule are dictionaries in 27 languages; encyclopedias; Israeli songs; the Wayfarer\u2019s Prayer; books of art and science and Israeli literature; information about Israeli scientific and technological discoveries and developments that influenced the world; photos of Israel\u2019s landscapes and of leading figures in Israeli culture; and a children\u2019s book inspired by SpaceIL\u2019s mission to the moon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cInserting the disks into the spacecraft, which is a real \u2018time capsule,\u2019 indicates the spacecraft\u2019s readiness to blast off from the launch site in a few weeks,\u201d said Ido Anteby, CEO of SpaceIL.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cSpaceIL\u2019s crews and IAI have completed testing of the spacecraft and its systems, and are preparing for the beginning of the amazing and complex journey that exemplifies innovation, creativity and courage. The spacecraft\u2019s historic journey, which also includes a scientific mission, makes a significant contribution to advancing the space industry and the subject of space in Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"100%\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.israel21c.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/Photo3-Space-IL.jpg\"><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>SpaceIL\u2019s Beresheet unmanned spacecraft at Israel Aerospace Industries in Yehud. Photo by Yoav Weiss<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">SpaceIL is a non-profit organization established in 2011 aiming to land the first Israeli spacecraft on the moon. The project also aims to inspire children in Israel and around the world to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In October, SpaceIL and the Israeli Space Agency announced a&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.israel21c.org\/nasa-israel-space-agency-ink-deal-for-moon-bound-mission\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>collaboration with NASA&nbsp;<\/strong><\/span><\/a>that will enable SpaceIL to improve its ability to track and communicate with the spacecraft before, during, and after landing on the moon.
