According to a report in Jordan&#8217;s Al-Rai newspaper, the unions association made the decision after Israel reprimanded&nbsp;\u200eacting Jordanian Ambassador Mohammed Hmaid \u200e\u200eafter a photo of a \u200eJordanian \u200eminister&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.israelhayom.com\/2018\/12\/31\/israel-protests-image-of-jordanian-minister-%E2%80%8Estepping-on-flag%E2%80%8E\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>stepping on an image of the \u200eIsraeli flag<\/strong><\/span><\/a>&nbsp;was published.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On Sunday, the Foreign Ministry summoned \u200ethe acting Jordanian ambassador \u200e\u200efor a \u200ereprimand. \u200eIn parallel, the Israeli Embassy in Amman delivered an official strong condemnation of the incident to \u200ethe kingdom&#8217;s government, the ministry said. <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The photo, published on the Jordanian website \u200eJfranews, showed Information Minister Jumana \u200eGhuneimat walking over an Israeli flag painted on \u200ethe floor of \u200ethe headquarters of Jordan&#8217;s \u200eprofessional unions in \u200eAmman.\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Footprints were also painted on the flag.<\/span> \u200e<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The unions are controlled by Jordan&#8217;s mainly \u200e\u200eIslamist opposition, known for its fierce \u200eideological \u200eobjection to the peace treaty between \u200ethe two nations or any other move toward normalizing \u200eties with the Jewish state. \u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The incident occurred last Thursday at Jordan&#8217;s \u200eTrade Union building when Ghuneimat \u200ewas on her way \u200eto a meeting between \u200eJordanian Prime Minister Omar \u200eal-Razzaz and union \u200erepresentatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Razzaz entered the \u200ebuilding through a rear door, \u200eavoiding having to \u200ewalk over the flag.\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Majed Qatarneh, a spokesman for Jordan&#8217;s Foreign \u200eMinistry, confirmed that Israel had sought \u200eclarifications over the incident, saying the ministry \u200ewas handling the issue through &#8220;diplomatic \u200echannels.&#8221;\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u200e&#8221;The Israeli side was informed that the building is \u200ea private one and the minister entered it from the \u200emain entrance for an official meeting,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We have emphasized that we respect the peace treaty \u200ewith Israel.&#8221;\u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">At the time, Jordanian media outlets questioned why Prime Minister Omar \u200eal-Razzaz had avoided entering the building through the main entrance, where the Israeli flag was installed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The incident comes amid increasing diplomatic tensions between the countries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I<span style=\"color: #000080;\">n October, King Abdullah&nbsp;announced he would&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.israelhayom.com\/2018\/10\/22\/jordan-cancels-part-of-peace-agreement-with-israel\/\"><strong>not renew clauses in a 1994 peace dea<\/strong>l<\/a>&nbsp;with Jerusalem that allowed Israel to&nbsp;lease two small areas comprising 1,000 acres of agricultural \u200eland\u200e \u2013\u200eBaqura, known as Naharayim in Hebrew, in the northern Jordan Valley, and Ghamr in \u200ethe south \u2013 from the Jordanians for 25 years. \u200e<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The king did not give a reason for his decision \u200ebut \u200ehe has faced escalating domestic pressure to end \u200ethe \u200elease and return the territories to full \u200eJordanian \u200econtrol.<\/span> \u200e\u200e<\/p>\n<hr style=\"height: 15px;
