The Arab states themselves don\u2019t believe in their diplomatic campaign against Israel anymore, former ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley told pro-Israel lobbing group AIPAC\u2019s annual Policy Conference on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Receiving by far the most enthusiastic reception from the audience of any of the day\u2019s speakers, Haley, who was noted for her staunch defense of Israel during her tenure, quickly pointed out that the response of the UN to Monday morning\u2019s Hamas missile attack that leveled an Israeli home and wounded seven was \u201cradio silence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked why this is the case, and why the UN regularly condemns Israeli retaliation but not the terrorism that caused it, Haley replied, \u201cWhat I\u2019ve learned is that, at the UN, it\u2019s just been this way for so long that they do that.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

However, she said, even Israel\u2019s staunchest opponents are aware of the hypocrisy of this practice.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was at this meeting with a couple of Arab countries and we were talking about Yemen,\u201d she recounted. \u201cAnd one of them said, \u2018I just don\u2019t understand, why isn\u2019t anyone calling out Hezbollah, why aren\u2019t they sitting there saying something about what\u2019s being done, all of the things that are happening,\u2019 because they were upset that\u00a0that<\/em>\u00a0terrorist group was doing something that they shouldn\u2019t be doing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAnd I turned around and I said, \u2018Well if you\u2019re upset about that, what\u2019s the difference between that and Hamas and Israel?\u2019 They were stunned, but when our meeting was over, they pulled me to the side and they said, \u2018You know, you\u2019re right. We know you\u2019re right, but we have to do this for our constituents,\u2019\u201d Haley stated.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s what they\u2019re doing this for, for sound bites for their constituents,\u201d she asserted. \u201cThey don\u2019t honestly think that way. It\u2019s just they\u2019ve done it for so long, they do what they think they\u2019ve always had to do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked what she felt were her greatest accomplishments as ambassador, Haley replied, \u201cStill being alive today. Surviving the UN.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
