As Israel\u2019s annual Holocaust Remembrance Day commemorations got underway on Wednesday night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned of the danger still posed by antisemitism across the globe.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe radical right, the radical left and radical Islam agree only on one thing \u2014 hatred of Jews,\u201d Netanyahu said in his speech at an official state ceremony at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p>\n

The prime minister made an apparent reference to the recent controversy surrounding a cartoon published in the international edition of The New York Times that was widely condemned as antisemitic.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe publication of caricatures of hate toward Israel undermines the legitimacy of the Jewish state,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Netanyahu also called for more international pressure on the regime in Tehran,<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIran threatens to destroy us day and night,\u201d he said. \u201cWe don\u2019t ignore them, and we are not deterred by them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

At the same ceremony, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin cautioned that Europe was seeing the \u201creemergence of ghosts of the past.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIdeas of superiority, national purity, xenophobia and blatant antisemitism from left and right are hovering over Europe,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Thursday morning at 10 a.m. local time, sirens across the country will wail for two minutes and Israelis will stand in silence to remember the six million Jews who were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust.<\/span><\/p>\n
