A Muslim doctor in Sydney, Australia, has become the target of an antisemitic, anti-Zionist hate campaign because of his work helping sick Palestinian children obtain treatment in Israeli hospitals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Jamal Rifi\u2019s support for Project Rozana has led to him being branded an \u201cenemy\u201d by pro-Iranian and pro-Hezbollah activists in his local community because the charity has Jewish members, Australian news outlets reported on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Project Rozana was originally set up six years ago by the Jewish women\u2019s group Hadassah Australia, which has strong links with Jerusalem\u2019s Hadassah Hospital. The group\u2019s goal as stated<\/a><\/strong> on its website is to \u201cbuild better understanding between Israelis and Palestinians through health.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The charity was named after Rozana Salawhi, a Palestinian girl who was saved by doctors at Hadassah after falling from an apartment block in the Palestinian city of Ramallah in the West Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rifi is a prominent figure in Sydney\u2019s Lebanese Muslim community and has been recognized for his work to prevent the radicalization of young people by Islamic State (IS).<\/span><\/p>\n

The doctor said that he feared that he had been referred to Lebanon\u2019s Military Court for possible prosecution \u2014 which means he cannot visit his ailing mother in the country for fear of being arrested.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rifi also turned to NSW Police to investigate threats against him and his family.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the investigation remains with local police, appropriate referrals have been made to the Engagement and Intervention Unit and Bias Crime Unit within the Counter Terrorism and Special Tactics Command,\u201d a police spokesman told journalists on Friday.<\/span><\/p>\n
