{"id":72176,"date":"2019-08-07T17:00:50","date_gmt":"2019-08-07T15:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=72176"},"modified":"2019-08-03T08:49:15","modified_gmt":"2019-08-03T06:49:15","slug":"07-00-42","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.reunion68.se\/?p=72176","title":{"rendered":"Outrage over anti-Semitic taxi assault in Montreal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.israelnationalnews.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.reunion68.com\/Biuletyn\/img\/arutz.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"30%\" \/><\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.israelnationalnews.com\/News\/News.aspx\/266820\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Outrage over anti-Semitic taxi assault in Montreal<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Arutz Sheva Staff<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr style=\"height: 15px; background: #d0e6fa; width: 100%;\" \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Quebec had the most anti-Semitic incidents in Canada in 2018, with 709 of Canada\u2019s 2,041 total incidents occurring in the province.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/k6s3v6r4.ssl.hwcdn.net\/pictures\/748\/748216.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #999999;\"><em>Jewish man with kippah (illustrative) \/ Carsten Koall\/Getty Images via JTA<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Jewish advocacy organization B\u2019nai Brith Canada expressed outrage after a Jewish man was assaulted by a taxi driver amid a barrage of anti-Semitic slurs earlier this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">On Sunday, July 28, the victim, who has asked B\u2019nai Brith not to share his name publicly, was visiting his elderly parents at a condo building in the Saint-Laurent borough of Montreal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">While waiting for a cab operated by the Taxi Champlain company to stop blocking the underground garage, the victim heard the taxi driver shout, \u201cI won\u2019t move for any f***ing Jews!\u201d The driver then allegedly threatened to kill the victim, who was visibly identifiable as a Jew because he wears a kippah, or Jewish head covering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The victim then attempted to photograph the taxi number in order to file a complaint, at which point the driver exited his car and punched him repeatedly until a parking supervisor intervened. The victim\u2019s phone was also smashed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Much of the incident was captured on a nearby security camera. The victim was injured and had to go to a nearby emergency room for treatment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThis is a shocking anti-Semitic hate crime, in which someone could have been gravely injured or even killed,\u201d said Michael Mostyn, Chief Executive Officer of B\u2019nai Brith Canada. \u201cOur thanks as a community go out to the good Samaritan who stepped in before this event became even uglier.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">B\u2019nai Brith is in touch with Montreal Police Service, who are investigating the incident and have contacted Taxi Champlain to gather evidence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Coincidentally, also on July 28, another Jewish resident of Montreal was subjected to anti-Semitic death threats, this time at a Tim Hortons in the city.
