Photo: Courtesy.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">You can tell a lot about a news outlet by what it chooses to cover \u2014 and even more by what it chooses to ignore.\u00a0<i>The Washington Post\u2019s<\/i>\u00a0reporting on Israel is a case in point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Take, for example, the murder of Dvir Sorek. The 18-year-old Israeli yeshiva student was found stabbed to death on August 8, outside of the community of Migal Oz. Sorek\u2019s murder \u2014 and the subsequent\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a id=\"m_9027056201032416794LPlnk818181\" class=\"m_9027056201032416794OWAAutoLink\" style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Breaking-News\/Four-Palestinians-arrested-in-connection-with-the-murder-of-Dvir-Sorek-598229\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Breaking-News\/Four-Palestinians-arrested-in-connection-with-the-murder-of-Dvir-Sorek-598229&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGwGKiIE40QvnKaIhWmp3M1Uudm6g\">manhunt<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and arrest of two Palestinian suspects, one of them a Hamas activist \u2014 attracted widespread coverage from major US news outlets,<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a id=\"m_9027056201032416794LPlnk821544\" class=\"m_9027056201032416794OWAAutoLink\" style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/08\/08\/world\/middleeast\/israel-yeshiva-student-west-bank.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/08\/08\/world\/middleeast\/israel-yeshiva-student-west-bank.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE1RwAKpPQA_W7OtT5tijHuaoQEOw\"> including<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<i>The New York Times<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><i>The Washington Post\u2019s<\/i>\u00a0Jerusalem bureau, however, declined to file any reports on the terrorist attack, much less highlight the footage of Palestinians\u00a0<a id=\"m_9027056201032416794LPlnk218614\" class=\"m_9027056201032416794OWAAutoLink\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2019\/08\/12\/dvir-sorek-is-murdered-and-palestinians-celebrate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2019\/08\/12\/dvir-sorek-is-murdered-and-palestinians-celebrate\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNElRHwG2j8bu8YhZYnZqFbUP0YnDg\">celebrating<\/a>\u00a0the murder by launching fireworks during Sorek\u2019s funeral. Instead, the newspaper contented itself with reprinting Associated Press (AP) briefs on the murder, the majority of which appeared only online.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">As the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting in America (CAMERA) highlighted recently,\u00a0<i>The Post<\/i>\u00a0has a habit\u00a0<a id=\"m_9027056201032416794LPlnk680361\" class=\"m_9027056201032416794OWAAutoLink\" style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2017\/08\/15\/can-the-washington-post-google-anti-jewish-incitement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2017\/08\/15\/can-the-washington-post-google-anti-jewish-incitement\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEEqCueip3vJuyCzARB58i2U2vRWw\">of under-reporting<\/a>\u00a0terrorist attacks and minimizing the antisemitic rhetoric and actions of Palestinian leadership.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Indeed, when\u00a0<i>The Jerusalem Post<\/i>\u00a0reported on July 11, 2019, that the PA was doubling the monthly payments to the terrorist responsible for masterminding the murders of three Israeli teenagers,\u00a0<i>The Washington Post<\/i>\u00a0was nowhere to be found.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Citing research by Palestinian Media Watch (PMW),\u00a0<i>Jerusalem Post<\/i>reporter Mayaan Jaffe-Hoffman\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Arab-Israeli-Conflict\/PA-ups-pay-for-slay-salary-to-murderer-of-3-Israeli-teenagers-in-2014-595302\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Arab-Israeli-Conflict\/PA-ups-pay-for-slay-salary-to-murderer-of-3-Israeli-teenagers-in-2014-595302&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNF_tEBfeELYowUh7N5e4zkrm1m01g\">noted<\/a>\u00a0that the PA had dramatically increased the payments being made to imprisoned terrorist Husam Al-Qawasmi, who helped plot the abduction and subsequent murder of Gilad Shaar, Eyal Yifrach, and Naftali Frenkel in 2014. That incident helped trigger the 2014 Israel-Hamas War, and is, in part, the subject of a forthcoming HBO series.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">That the PA is choosing to double down on its \u201cpay to slay\u201d policy amid a budget crisis \u2014 which itself is the result of US and Israeli aid cuts over that very same policy \u2014 is newsworthy. But not, it seems, to\u00a0<i>The Washington Post<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">PA President Mahmoud Abbas has\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/abbas-vows-to-continue-stipends-to-terrorists-even-with-pas-last-penny\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/abbas-vows-to-continue-stipends-to-terrorists-even-with-pas-last-penny\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG39eLkW3TMa1uTbT-tSJwH1YtxgA\">vowed<\/a>\u00a0that he\u2019ll continue to pay terrorists to the \u201clast penny,\u201d a decision that violates the Oslo Accords \u2013something that\u00a0<i>The Post<\/i>\u00a0also failed to report. The newspaper also chose to ignore Abbas\u2019 July 25 threat to stop\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/abbas-says-palestinians-will-stop-implementing-agreements-with-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/abbas-says-palestinians-will-stop-implementing-agreements-with-israel\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEZgLnZY9oYQmXIA4H95TarXYDiJQ\">implementing<\/a>previous agreements with Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Other omissions highlight\u00a0<i>The Post\u2019s<\/i>\u00a0bias. When the US decided to cut aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in 2018,\u00a0<i>The Washington Post<\/i>\u00a0filed no fewer than five reports. As CAMERA pointed out in a September 5, 2018\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/america-is-right-to-cut-funding-to-this-un-refugee-organization\/2018\/09\/05\/cdcdc3e4-aecd-11e8-8b53-50116768e499_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/opinions\/america-is-right-to-cut-funding-to-this-un-refugee-organization\/2018\/09\/05\/cdcdc3e4-aecd-11e8-8b53-50116768e499_story.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGtXFMwai5sz5Ql_piiC-fs-4QFGw\">letter to the editor<\/a>,\u00a0<i>The Post<\/i>\u00a0omitted UNRWA\u2019s troubling\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2018\/11\/22\/the-medias-unredeemable-reporting-on-unrwa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2018\/11\/22\/the-medias-unredeemable-reporting-on-unrwa\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNG7UpAUL6wNDeQ3S_qxO_qxo_rZKA\">history<\/a>\u00a0of promoting anti-Jewish violence and terror. Instead, the newspaper portrayed the cuts in a negative light, often acting more as an advocate for the UN agency than an impartial media outlet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yet, when an internal ethics report was leaked in August 2019 accusing the head of UNRWA of nepotism, corruption, retaliation against whistle-blowers, and sexual misconduct,\u00a0<i>The Washington Post<\/i>\u00a0was curiously absent. The newspaper failed to provide any original reporting on the scandal, which, by contrast, was detailed in many other outlets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Nor did\u00a0<i><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/heads-of-republican-democrat-delegation-agree-omar-tlaib-should-visit-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/heads-of-republican-democrat-delegation-agree-omar-tlaib-should-visit-israel\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHWmTVXTnxOefMDBCmAcJZTo_ZOuA\">The Post<\/a><\/i>\u00a0cover the August 2019 bipartisan visit of 72 US lawmakers to Israel \u2014 the \u201clargest-ever Congressional delegation\u201d \u2014 as\u00a0<i>The Times of Israel<\/i>\u00a0r<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/heads-of-republican-democrat-delegation-agree-omar-tlaib-should-visit-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/heads-of-republican-democrat-delegation-agree-omar-tlaib-should-visit-israel\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHWmTVXTnxOefMDBCmAcJZTo_ZOuA\">eported<\/a>.\u00a0<i>The Post\u2019s<\/i>decision to ignore the trip is revealing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">By contrast, when fewer than a dozen US writers and poets \u2014 some of whom compared Israel to Hamas \u2014 traveled to Israel at the behest of an\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.camera.org\/article\/washington-post-s-letter-from-israel-should-be-marked-return-to-sender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.camera.org\/article\/washington-post-s-letter-from-israel-should-be-marked-return-to-sender\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHY-sJCruU7Oj-ahpIveO2_JXcnHQ\">anti-Israel NGO<\/a>\u00a0in May 2016,\u00a0<i>The Post\u00a0<\/i>filed a glowing 1317-word\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/middle_east\/heres-what-happened-when-some-famous-writers-went-to-visit-some-hardcore-jewish-settlers\/2016\/05\/07\/54add920-067f-11e6-bfed-ef65dff5970d_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/middle_east\/heres-what-happened-when-some-famous-writers-went-to-visit-some-hardcore-jewish-settlers\/2016\/05\/07\/54add920-067f-11e6-bfed-ef65dff5970d_story.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH4VPGu-eS9LrRPiLCAOXvWrpxW8A\">report<\/a>\u00a0complete with several photographs detailing the trip. Similarly, when Israel decided to deny entry to US Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib,\u00a0<i>The Post<\/i>\u00a0decided that this merited\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/netanyahu-considers-blocking-omar-tlaib-from-entering-israel-ahead-of-a-planned-weekend-visit\/2019\/08\/15\/d69983ce-d15b-4074-8590-c6f69bd4a084_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/national-security\/netanyahu-considers-blocking-omar-tlaib-from-entering-israel-ahead-of-a-planned-weekend-visit\/2019\/08\/15\/d69983ce-d15b-4074-8590-c6f69bd4a084_story.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFRvXEanfpF8F29kQL5LdsXyTCvfg\">coverage<\/a>, even if the trip of 70-plus lawmakers did not.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Both Omar and Tlaib support the Boycott, Divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement. As CAMERA and others\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.camera.org\/article\/terror-analyst-ties-exist-between-hamas-linked-charities-and-bds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.camera.org\/article\/terror-analyst-ties-exist-between-hamas-linked-charities-and-bds\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHXPA2WG2SYZQ1kYvj4t_Ezud2XcQ\">have noted<\/a>, BDS seeks the end of the Jewish state, singles out only Israel for opprobrium, has been declared antisemitic by various legislative bodies, and is endorsed by terrorist organizations like Hamas.\u00a0<i>The Post\u2019s<\/i>\u00a0coverage, however, whitewashes BDS, which it claims, \u201cprotests Israel\u2019s treatment of the Palestinians and has found growing support in Europe and the United States in recent years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In fact \u2014 in another occurrence ignored by\u00a0<i>The Post<\/i>\u00a0\u2014 Germany\u2019s legislature\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Israel-News\/German-Bundestag-rules-BDS-is-antisemitic-589999\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/Israel-News\/German-Bundestag-rules-BDS-is-antisemitic-589999&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEYWTomBJzYhOhbR9lqZsLassyurA\">ruled<\/a>\u00a0that BDS is \u201cantisemitic.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><i>The Post<\/i>\u00a0also failed to note that Israel\u2019s decision to enforce its laws banning entry for BDS supporters came after Omar and Tlaib\u2019s itinerary was published. Given their anti-Israel and antisemitic records, it is unsurprising that the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gilicohen10\/status\/1162028501437992960\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/gilicohen10\/status\/1162028501437992960\/photo\/1&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFC79BBQBTxLAhup_NK8nteh9AflQ\">agenda<\/a>\u00a0for their trip referred to all of Israel as \u201cPalestine,\u201d was sponsored by Miftah and included\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/gilicohen10\/status\/1162031279208054785\/photo\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/twitter.com\/gilicohen10\/status\/1162031279208054785\/photo\/1&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHMFcf9473c0swGh7dQjUjNuWqAOg\">meetings<\/a>\u00a0with Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCI-P) and other anti-Israel NGOs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">As NGO Monitor has documented, DCI-P has extensive ties to the Popular Front for the Liberation, a US-designated terror group. The President of DCI-P\u2019s General Assembly, Nasser Ibrahim, is the former editor of El Hadaf, the PFLP\u2019s weekly publication. DCI-P board members and employees, past and present, include no less than\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/ngos\/defence_for_children_international_palestine_section\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/ngos\/defence_for_children_international_palestine_section\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228673000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGN96lrrYBgftz4ynpG1uiGcrSk9g\">10 individuals<\/a>\u00a0with links to the PFLP.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">As for Miftah,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/reports\/miftah_s_funders_share_responsibility_for_antisemitism_and_incitement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/reports\/miftah_s_funders_share_responsibility_for_antisemitism_and_incitement\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228674000&amp;usg=AFQjCNE9vETnDDGQxRT9ZG11HrEc88B09w\">NGO Monitor<\/a>\u00a0offers disturbing details: \u201cOn March 27, 2013 MIFTAH, a Palestinian non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 1998 by Hanan Ashrawi (<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.miftah.org\/AboutUs.cfm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.miftah.org\/AboutUs.cfm&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228674000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGupnDp-wfaQor-Z23hhwShyeNNPQ\">Chair of MIFTAH\u2019s Board of Directors<\/a>), published\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/data\/images\/File\/miftah%20blood%20libel.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.ngo-monitor.org\/data\/images\/File\/miftah%2520blood%2520libel.jpg&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1566023228674000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGuoHsfPs8P8VsoKo763BwDoga5-A\">an article<\/a>\u00a0by Nawaf al-Zaru that repeated the antisemitic blood libel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Put simply: two members of Congress planned a trip sponsored by an NGO that traffics in antisemitism, which had \u2014 as its basis \u2014 the denial of Israel\u2019s right to exist, and which included meeting a group with terror links.
