Up to 19 students from an exclusive private school in Vancouver, British Columbia, faced strong disciplinary action \u2014 including expulsion \u2014 after they were recently discovered making Nazi salutes on campus and mocking the Holocaust on a private online messaging channel, among other racist and antisemitic offenses.<\/span><\/p>\n

The students attending the $45,000-per-year St. George\u2019s School in the Canadian city were reported to school staff by another student who discovered their antisemitic posts on a direct message group earlier this month.<\/span><\/p>\n

Samantha Wink \u2014 head of communications for the school \u2014 told\u00a0The Algemeiner<\/i>\u00a0on Thursday that \u201ca number of boys have been suspended and several have been expelled\u201d because of their actions, which allegedly included making Nazi salutes on school grounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

One anonymous student at the school who was quoted extensively by Canadian media outlets<\/span>\u00a0said that the group of boys come from various cultural backgrounds and had been sharing \u201cmainly antisemitic and anti-black\u201d content for at least the past two years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

St. George\u2019s School immediately launched an internal investigation after the group was discovered.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sgt. Steve Addison, a spokesman for the Vancouver Police Department, told\u00a0The Algemeiner<\/i>\u00a0that a police investigation was also ongoing. \u201cThis file remains open,\u201d Addison said on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Canadian Jewish groups praised the swift action taken by the school authorities. \u201cWe commend St. George\u2019s for taking this deeply offensive and racist behavior seriously,\u201d Michael Mostyn \u2014 CEO of B\u2019nai B\u2019rith Canada, a Jewish advocacy organization \u2014 told\u00a0The Algemeiner<\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mostyn said that the school \u201cabsolutely took the right action\u201d in suspending or expelling the students.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCanada is a country that prides itself on tolerance and diversity and to protect that, we need to uphold a zero tolerance policy on hate, bigotry, and discrimination,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n
