Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu congratulated Donald Trump on Sunday after the US president announced the death of Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in a US special forces raid.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI want to congratulate President Trump on the impressive achievement, an operation that led to the death of the [IS] leader al-Baghdadi,\u201d Netanyahu said in a statement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis reflects the united resolve of the free countries led by the United States to fight the forces of terror, the terror organizations, and the terrorist states,\u201d the prime minister added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Netanyahu concluded, \u201cThis is an important milestone, but it\u2019s part of a longer battle which we must win.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Trump announced Baghdadi\u2019s death at a White House press conference, saying, \u201cThe thug who tried so hard to intimidate others spent his last moments in utter fear, panic, and dread, terrified of the American forces coming down on him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The IS leader, said Trump, blew himself up while attempting to escape US soldiers through a tunnel.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe reached the end of the tunnel as our dogs chased him down. He ignited his vest, killing himself and his three children,\u201d Trump said. \u201cHis body was mutilated by the blasts. The tunnel had caved on him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
