Former US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley blasted Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders for his pledge on Monday<\/strong><\/span><\/a> <\/strong><\/span>to force Israel to allocate part of its US military assistance toward humanitarian relief in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the national conference of the left-wing J Street lobby group in Washington, DC, Sanders said after being asked about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, \u201cI would use the leverage of $3.8 billion,\u201d referring to the military aid package.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cMy solution is, to Israel, if you want military aid, you\u2019re going to have to fundamentally change your relationship to the people of Gaza,\u201d Sanders stated. \u201cI would say that some of the $3.8 billion should go right now to humanitarian aid in Gaza.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In response, Haley \u2014 widely considered to be a potential future Republican presidential candidate in the post-Donald Trump era \u2014 tweeted, \u201cJust when you thought Bernie Sanders couldn\u2019t get any more radical, he outdid himself. He wants to take money we give to Israel to defend itself from terrorists, and give it to Gaza, which is run by terrorists?? Unreal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhy isn\u2019t every other Dem pres candidate saying he\u2019s wrong?\u201d she asked.<\/span><\/p>\n

Israeli Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein \u2014 a member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s Likud party \u2014 also chimed in, tweeting, \u201c@BernieSanders, stop talking nonsense.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Taking umbrage at Sanders\u2019 remark that \u201c[w]hat is going on in Gaza right now, for example, is absolutely inhumane,\u201d Edelstein said, \u201cJust yesterday, I met with representatives of the EU during their visit to the Knesset, and I told them about the absurd claims regarding the economic situation in the Gaza Strip.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s time to put an end to these claims,\u201d Edelstein declared, asserting that Gaza has \u201call the necessary means \u2014 they use the money earmarked for the public benefit in order to attack the State of Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
