BRUSSELS \u2013 Strategic Affairs Minister Gilad Erdan unveiled a new ministry report at the EU Parliament on Wednesday that details how the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement has intensified antisemitism for Jews around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 94-page report, titled \u201cBehind the Mask: The Antisemitic Nature of BDS Exposed,\u201d was published in English and calls on Western governments and leaders to \u201cremain vigilant against antisemitism in all its forms, including that practiced by the BDS movement, and to take proactive steps to stem this hate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Erdan stressed that the aim of BDS \u201cis to mainstream antisemitism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have exposed\u00a0BDS<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and its connections to Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine,\u201d he explained. \u201cThe blatant antisemitism that was used to single out the Jews is being used to attack the Jewish state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

During the briefing, EJA chairman Rabbi Menachem Margolin said that BDS \u201cis responsible for vast majority of violent and online attacks in Europe.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Margolin added that it shouldn\u2019t be normal that Jews in \u201cLondon, France and here in Brussels are prepared to be attacked.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf there is clear legislation, policy and education,\u00a0antisemitism<\/a>\u00a0can\u2019t grow but European governments allow and support BDS,\u201d Margolin said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Erdan also called on European governments to adopt the IHRA definition and to implement legislation to fight BDS \u201cand end funding\u201d to the movement.<\/span><\/p>\n

US Special Envoy for Combating Antisemitism Elan Carr stressed that \u201cantisemitism isn\u2019t only about the Jews, and that the fight is not only just about protecting the Jewish people \u2013 it\u2019s about the fight for our collective future,\u201d stressing that the Holocaust was one of the lowest barometers in human history.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the fight against antisemitism, Carr said that world leaders need to ask \u201cwhat kind of world\u201d they want for future generations.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have to fulfill our promise to the next generation, who is deserving of a better world,\u201d he said. \u201cIf all governments stand together on this, we will see a better world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Carr reminded those present that the official policy of the US is that \u201canti-Zionism is antisemitism.\u201d He also made it clear that he is positive \u201cwe will win this fight if we work together,\u201d concluding that if he wasn\u2019t optimistic about this, he \u201cwould never have taken this job.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Polish EU Parliament member Anna Fotyga told the panel that although she is not Jewish, she lost family in World War II and identifies with the Jewish people deeply.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIsrael is the only democracy in the Middle East,\u201d she stressed, adding that BDS is damaging to the ideals and values of EU countries because \u201cyou can\u2019t separate sport, education, and economy… when it comes to boycotts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Greek EU Parliament member Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou said that \u201cantisemitic acts and incidents are increasing all over the world,\u201d highlighting that this is \u201cvery concerning.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe Greek government will continue to fight against antisemitism,\u201d Asimakopoulou vowed.<\/span><\/p>\n
