Photo: Gili Yaari \/ Flash90 and Noam Revkin Fenton \/ Flash90.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his top political rival, ex-IDF chief of staff Benny Gantz, have been invited to a White House meeting next week for a discussion with US President Donald Trump about his long-awaited \u201cDeal of the Century\u201d peace proposal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe United States looks forward to welcoming Prime Minister @Netanyahu &amp; Blue &amp; White Chairman @Gantzbe to the @WhiteHouse next week,\u201d Trump tweeted on Thursday. \u201cReports about details and timing of our closely-held peace plan are purely speculative.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The invitation was officially proffered by US Vice President Mike Pence, who was in Jerusalem on Thursday to the World Holocaust Forum at Yad Vashem.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Pence met with Netanyahu at the US embassy in the Israeli capital on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Netanyahu told Pence, \u201cI gladly accept your invitation, his [Trump\u2019s] invitation to come to Washington and discuss with him his ideas on how to advance peace and to work closely with him to advance that goal.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI suggested that Benny Gantz be invited to this event as well, because I think that it\u2019s important that we do not lose this historic opportunity,\u201d the Israeli leader added. \u201cWith such friends in the White House, with such backing from the United States, we should get as broad a consensus as possible around the efforts to achieve security and peace, peace and security for the State of Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI look forward to doing both, and I thank you again for your extraordinary friendship,\u201d he concluded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A spokesperson for Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, stated, \u201cWe warn Israel and the US administration not to cross any red lines.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The planned sit-down marks a reversal from the Trump administration\u2019s previous intention of waiting to move ahead with its peace initiative until after the upcoming Israeli elections in March.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Israeli news site\u00a0<strong><em><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/news.walla.co.il\/item\/3336740\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Walla<\/a><\/em><\/strong>\u00a0reported that the White House was debating when to make the plan public, and Netanyahu, backed by US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman, was pushing for an immediate unveiling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><em><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mako.co.il\/news-world\/2020_q1\/Article-ed661651f03df61027.htm?sCh=3d385dd2dd5d4110&amp;pId=1898243326\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mako<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0said the proposal was expected to be extremely generous toward the Jewish state, recognizing all of its settlements in the West Bank as sovereign Israeli territory.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Sources who have seen the map set to be presented to Netanyahu and Gantz have said, \u201cThere\u2019s never been anything like it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">One potential concession from Israel is rumored to be recognition of a Palestinian state. However, it is widely believed the Palestinians will reject the plan sight unseen, giving Israel a \u201cgreen light\u201d to annex the settlements without concessions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A senior official in the Israeli settler movement told Mako, \u201cThere is a unique historic opportunity here. We will support the move, but we will not agree to a Palestinian state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Walla reported that Defense Minister Naftali Bennett, a staunch right-winger opposed to territorial concessions, agreed, saying his Yamina party would \u201cnot allow land to be transferred to Arabs or to establish a Palestinian state.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe State of Israel may be facing a historic opportunity, along with significant risks,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Bennett added that Trump, his top adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner and Ambassador Friedman were \u201ctrue friends of Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Transportation Minister Bezalel Smotrich of the far-right National Union party, who has been pushing for annexation, said, \u201cThere are probably opportunities, but also a few risks.
