Photo: Reuters \/ Lloyd Mitchell.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Despite a worrying rise in violence targeting Jews in the US, a new poll of Americans released on Wednesday by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) showed that the number of people \u201cwho hold pernicious and pervasive antisemitic attitudes has remained at decades-long historical lows.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The latest ADL \u201cSurvey of American Attitudes Toward Jews\u201d&nbsp; \u2014 conducted annually by the Jewish civil rights organization since 1964 \u2014 found that 61 percent of American adults polled agreed with at least one or more classic antisemitic canards. These involve stereotypically negative characteristics such as clannishness, outsize wealth and greater loyalty to the State of Israel than the US, all of which featured prominently in the ADL survey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">An accompanying ADL statement underlined that \u201cthere was positive news as the findings showed that the level of Americans who hold pernicious and pervasive anti-Semitic attitudes has remained at decades-long historical lows: The majority of ADL\u2019s surveys over the last 25 years have indicated that between 11 and 14 percent of Americans intensely harbor anti-Semitic attitudes.\u201d However, \u201cthat share still represents tens of millions of people harboring virulent views.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">According to the ADL, antisemitic attitudes \u201chave remained constant in America, with 11 percent of American adults \u2014 about 28 million people \u2014 harboring deeply ingrained anti-Semitic attitudes by agreeing with six or more common tropes about Jews covered in the survey. Longstanding stereotypes about \u2018Jewish power\u2019 in business and the \u2018dual loyalty\u2019 canard \u2014 the notion that Jews are more loyal to Israel than to their home country \u2014 remain deeply entrenched and are especially widespread.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Jonathan Greenblatt \u2014 the ADL\u2019s CEO \u2014 observed that \u201c[I]n recent times, we\u2019ve been horrified by an uptick in antisemitic violence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">He continued: \u201cOur research finds that this uptick is being caused not by a change in attitudes among most Americans. Rather, more of the millions of Americans holding antisemitic views are feeling emboldened to act on their hate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Key poll findings include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin: 0px 0px 10px; padding: 0px 0px 0px 30px; border: 0px; outline: 0px; font-size: 18px; vertical-align: baseline; background: #ffffff; list-style: disc; color: #000000; font-family: 'PT Serif', serif; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 300; letter-spacing: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; widows: 2; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial;\">\n<li>24 percent of Americans agreed with the statement \u201cJews are more loyal to Israel than to America.\u201d<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">31 percent believed that Jewish employers go out of their way to hire other Jews.<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left;\">17 percent said that \u201cthe movie and television industries are pretty much run by Jews.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>27 percent said they believed that Jews killed Jesus Christ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">At the same time, the survey revealed that most Americans retained a positive view of their Jewish fellow citizens.
