I was standing here with the cops and there was nothing anyone could do.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The looters smashed the pharmacy\u2019s windows, knocked down the shelves and took all the street drugs including painkillers. Friedman said the protest started at Pan Pacific Park and then police pushed the crowd down Beverly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/jewishjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image1-14-644x858.jpeg\" width=\"100%\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Photo courtesy of Jonathan Friedman<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It was then that they \u201clooted every single store. They went from store to store. They took hammers out and smashed windows. What\u2019s more upsetting than the theft is that they destroyed everyone\u2019s place of work. People take pride in where they work. They want to come in Monday morning and have their papers in order. They destroyed people\u2019s place of work, which is like their home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">While witnessing the destruction to his business, as well the kosher bakery Mensch Bakery and Kitchen and the Jewish-owned clothing store Go Couture across the street, Friedman went back home for a few minutes to tell his wife and children what was happening. He walked to and from his store since he was observing Shabbat and Shavuot at the time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe 15 minutes I was gone, someone chased three people out of my store,\u201d he said. \u201cAt 9 o\u2019clock last night, there were cops driving up and down the block. There was not an ounce of fear in these [looters\u2019] eyes.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Friedman stayed up until 2 in the morning cleaning the store and boarding up the windows. \u201cIt looked like the aftermath of a hurricane,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/jewishjournal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/image2-4-644x858.jpeg\" width=\"100%\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Photo courtesy of Jonathan Friedman<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Still, he will be ready to open his doors on Monday to serve his customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cWe\u2019re cleaning up. We\u2019re a pharmacy. We have to serve our patients tomorrow. We don\u2019t have a choice.
