The late legendary Jewish singer Leonard Cohen has received a posthumous nomination for a 2021 Grammy Award for Best Folk Album, it was announced on Tuesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThanks for the Dance,\u201d Cohen\u2019s fifteenth and final studio album, was finished by his son, Adam Cohen, and\u00a0released<\/a>\u00a0last November. The album is made up of half-finished songs and vocal takes Cohen recorded during sessions for \u201cYou Want It Darker,\u201d his 14th studio album released in October 2016, shortly before his death.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leonard, who was already suffering from leukemia and compression fractures of the spine when he recorded his final vocals, died on Nov. 7, 2016, in Los Angeles, California, after a fall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adam Cohen, a musician who also served as a producer on \u201cYou Want It Darker,\u201d said he and his father discussed finishing the half-completed songs before the latter\u2019s death.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe conversations were about what instrumentation and what feelings he wanted the completed work to evoke \u2014 sadly, the fact that I would be completing them without him was a given,\u201d he recalled.<\/span><\/p>\n

Leonard Cohen won his first Grammy, for Album of the Year, as a featured artist on Herbie Hancock\u2019s \u201cRiver: The Joni Letters\u201d in 2007.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 2017, he won the Grammy for Best Rock Performance for \u201cYou Want It Darker\u201d and was nominated for Best American Roots Performance for \u201cSteer Your Way.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>He was honored with a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2010, and \u201cSongs of Leonard Cohen\u201d was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

Cohen is one of several Jewish artists who made the\u00a02021 Grammys nominations list<\/a>, including the members of sister rock band \u201cHaim,\u201d Tiffany Haddish, Jack Antonoff and Drake.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 63rd Grammy Awards will air Sunday, Jan. 31 on\u00a0CBS<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
