Netflix mini-series \u201cUnorthodox\u201d and its Israeli star Shira Haas both garnered nominations for the Critics Choice Awards, it was\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0on Monday.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the category of Best Limited Series, the show, about an ultra-Orthodox woman named Esty who breaks away from Brooklyn\u2019s Hasidic Jewish community, is up against \u201cI May Destroy You,\u201d \u201cMrs. America,\u201d \u201cNormal People,\u201d \u201cThe Plot Against America,\u201d \u201cThe Queens Gambit,\u201d \u201cSmall Axe,\u201d and \u201cThe Undoing.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Haas was nominated for Best Actress in a Limited Series or Movie Made for Television alongside Cate Blanchett (\u201cMrs. America\u201d), Michaela Coel (\u201cI May Destroy You\u201d), Daisy Edgar-Jones (\u201cNormal People\u201d), Anya Taylor-Joy (\u201cThe Queen\u2019s Gambit)\u201d and Tessa Thompson (\u201cSylvie\u2019s Love\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n

The 25-year-old shared the news in an Instagram\u00a0post<\/a>\u00a0and said, \u201cWOW! Thank you\u00a0@criticschoice for this great honor.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Haas also received\u00a0an Emmy nomination<\/a>\u00a0last year for her role in \u201cUnorthodox.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Last week, she\u00a0talked about<\/a>\u00a0her \u201cvery challenging but also very empowering\u201d head-shaving scene in the Netflix show at the InFocus: Israeli Cinema virtual film festival, in which she appeared via Zoom on a panel discussion with Israeli filmmakers. Haas, who also stars in the Israeli television series \u201cShtisel\u201d and Israel\u2019s Oscar submission \u201cAsia,\u201d recalled, \u201cIt was on the first shooting day. I had such long hair then. One heck of a welcome.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s such an important scene and a very symbolic one,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s a story about a woman who\u2019s finding her voice, and in that scene, she\u2019s literally finding it. It was [filmed] live and there were a lot of people and cameras. I was really nervous about singing in front of everyone and messing up. I felt a lot of responsibility to do it right.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The 26th annual Critics Choice Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021, at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. It was air that same day on\u00a0The CW<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n
