The tallest tower in the complex is called the Phasael Tower, which was the first to be identified as the \u201cTower of David\u201d in the 5th century CE.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/images.jpost.com\/image\/upload\/f_auto,fl_lossy\/t_Article2016_ControlFaceDetect\/473653\" width=\"100%\"><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>conservation work taking place at the Phasael tower. A large crack running from top to bottom is threatening the tower\u2019s entire structural integrity, which has led the conservation team leading the project to expedite its efforts to restore the 2,000-year-old damaged stones.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe Tower of David is one of the most important structures in Israel, both in terms of its history and location,\u201d said Yotam Carmel, conservation manager at Ken HaTor, the company put in charge of the project. \u201cThe last conservation project at the Tower of David was carried out in the 1980s.
