A Colombian actress and former telenovela star who converted from Catholicism to Judaism spoke to Israel\u2019s Reshet 13<\/em> on Thursday about her new life as an Orthodox Jew living in Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sarah Mintz, 45, was born Maritza Rodr\u00edguez G\u00f3mez. In 2001 in Los Angeles, the Spanish-language soap opera star met Emmy Award-winning Mexican television producer Joshua Mintz, a Conservative Jew who \u201cwent to shul<\/em> two days a year,\u201d he said. She said the couple grew together spiritually, married in 2005 and together with their twin boys, Akiva and Yehuda, moved to Jerusalem in April.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor more than 26 years I had a career as a television host, actress, model, in the theater on the red carpets \u2014 what didn\u2019t I do? But it doesn\u2019t compares to what I have today,\u201d said Sarah, who wears a wig and only modest attire.<\/span><\/p>\n

When asked how she felt living in Israel during the recent clashes between Israel and Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip, she said \u201cI wasn\u2019t scared. The first thing I said to myself was \u2018this is the best place to be. I\u2019m in God\u2019s hands.\u2019 And that\u2019s how I have felt from the moment I stepped foot in Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

She then grew emotional discussing the moment when she stood in front of the rabbinic court in Israel to complete her conversion to Judaism.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe rabbis asked me: Are you sure?\u201d she recalled. \u201cI\u2019m proud to be Jewish, it\u2019s a joy for me, it\u2019s easy \u2014 it\u2019s like being born again without dying. It\u2019s being in the right place. It\u2019s wonderful.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mintz was most recently the star of the Telemundo<\/em> show \u201cSilvana sin lana\u201d and the television series \u201cEl Se\u00f1or de los Cielos.\u201d She now describes herself on Instagram as a \u201cJewish orthodox fashion and lifestyle influencer.\u201d She did not rule out continuing her acting career in Israel, but said she would have to finish learning to speak Hebrew first.<\/span><\/p>\n
