Photo: Provided\/UK Lawyers for Israel.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A British bookseller and publishing house have both removed from their websites a children\u2019s book that was accused of being \u201cmisleading and biased\u201d for failing to include Israel on a map of the Middle East.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cAmazing Women of the Middle East\u201d by Wafa Tarnowska is no longer listed on the website of Pikku Publishing, which also removed teaching resources based on the book that it had provided online, the advocacy group UK Lawyers for Israel (UKLFI) said on Thursday. The bookseller&nbsp;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hive.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hive.co.uk<\/a><\/strong><\/span>&nbsp;also confirmed to UKLFI that it has pulled the title from its website and also from those of its sister companies, Gardner\u2019s and The Little Group. Hive.co.uk&nbsp;additionally told publishers they have withdrawn their stock from the book\u2019s sales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Caroline Turner, director of UK Lawyers for Israel, applauded the news and added, \u201cIt is shocking that a book for children in the UK could have presented such a misleading picture of the Middle East. I hope the publishers will now amend the book so Israel will be back on the map and that Jewish Israeli women will be included in the profiles.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cAmazing Women of the Middle East\u201d featured on its eighth page a map that replaced Israel with \u201cPalestine.\u201d The children\u2019s book profiles 24 trailblazing women but also made no mention of a single Jewish or Israeli woman.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">UKLFI called on the book\u2019s publishers in the UK and US&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2021\/12\/23\/publishers-under-fire-for-childrens-book-that-replaces-israel-with-palestine-on-map-of-middle-east\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">last week<\/a>&nbsp;to withdraw, edit, and then republish the children\u2019s book with a map of the Middle East that shows Israel, and to include at least one \u201camazing woman\u201d from Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The group also argued that using the book as a teaching resource in schools would likely place Pikku Publishing in breach of&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/1996\/56\/section\/406\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.legislation.gov.uk\/ukpga\/1996\/56\/section\/406&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1640359547516000&amp;usg=AOvVaw19f1smq7OlTEB5pCGZWrk_\">Section 406 of the UK\u2019s Education Act 1996<\/a>, which bars the \u201cpromotion of partisan political views\u201d in school curricula.
