He simply stated the fact that Israel was &#8220;born as a Jewish state&#8221; and that &#8220;it will remain a Jewish state.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>Second, there is no connection between accepting Israel&#8217;s Jewish identity and the Islamic holy sites, including the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Since 1967, in fact, Israel has allowed the Islamic religious authorities to have exclusive control over the mosque and other Islamic holy sites in Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<li>Remarkably, since the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967, the city has become a haven for coexistence and revitalized religious and cultural expression for all faiths. Freedom of worship at all holy sites is guaranteed for the faithful of all three monotheistic religions.<\/li>\n<li>Ironically, the Palestinian leadership&#8217;s false claim that Israel is seeking to &#8220;harm&#8221; the al-Aqsa Mosque came as Palestinians made two attempts to set fire to Joseph&#8217;s Tomb in Nablus, only because it is frequented by Jewish worshippers. The attempts, according to reports in the Palestinian media, were foiled at the last minute by the Palestinian security forces.<\/li>\n<li>Third, the Palestinian leadership&#8217;s claim that recognition of Israel as a Jewish state &#8220;contradicts religion and history&#8221; should be seen in the context of the Palestinians&#8217; denial of any traces of Judaism in Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<li>Notably, while the PA says that it is strongly opposed to the idea of Israel being a Jewish state, it has no problem defining itself as &#8220;Arab&#8221; and &#8220;Islamic.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>There are 56 countries in which Islam plays a significant role. Many of them are countries with Islam as the state religion.<\/li>\n<li>The constitutions of several Arab countries, including Egypt, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria, Oman and Yemen, define them as Arab states where Islam is the religion of the state.<\/li>\n<li>It is worth considering the extreme hypocrisy of this situation: the Arabs (and the Palestinians) continue their long-held policy of defining their countries as &#8220;Arab&#8221; and &#8220;Islamic,&#8221; while they deny Israel the right to refer to itself what it always has been &#8212; the Jewish state.<\/li>\n<li>This does not bode well for any peace process that the Biden administration is hoping to revive between the Palestinians and Israel.<\/li>\n<li>Those who refuse to recognize Israel as a Jewish state are actually admitting that they do not believe in Israel&#8217;s right to exist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gatestoneinstitute.org\/pics\/1954.jpg\" width=\"100%\" border=\"0\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Palestinians and other Arabs are furious because Mansour Abbas &#8212; an Arab member of Israel&#8217;s parliament, the Knesset, and head of the United List Party &#8212; announced that he recognizes Israel as a Jewish state. (Photo by Ahmad Gharabli\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Palestinians and other Arabs are\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/hamas-pa-slam-mansour-abbas-for-acknowledging-jewish-character-of-israel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">furious<\/a>\u00a0because Mansour Abbas &#8212; an Arab member of Israel&#8217;s parliament, the Knesset, and head of the United List Party &#8212; announced that he recognizes Israel as a Jewish state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Abbas is being\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/safa.ps\/post\/318530\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B4%D8%B9%D8%A8%D9%8A-%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D8%AF%D9%8A%D9%86-%D8%AA%D8%B5%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%AD%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B5%D9%88%D8%B1-%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B3-%D9%88%D8%AA%D8%B5%D9%81%D9%87%D8%A7-%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AE%D9%8A%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%8A-%D8%A9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">denounced<\/a>\u00a0as a &#8220;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/safa.ps\/post\/318530\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B4%D8%B9%D8%A8%D9%8A-%D8%A9-%D8%AA%D8%AF%D9%8A%D9%86-%D8%AA%D8%B5%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%AD%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B5%D9%88%D8%B1-%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B3-%D9%88%D8%AA%D8%B5%D9%81%D9%87%D8%A7-%D8%A8%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AE%D9%8A%D8%A7%D9%86%D9%8A-%D8%A9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">traitor<\/a>&#8221; and &#8220;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.maannews.net\/articles\/2056873.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Zionist<\/a>&#8221; by many Palestinians and Arabs who define their countries and political systems as &#8220;Arab&#8221; or &#8220;Islamic.&#8221; They\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/3211793.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">claim<\/a>\u00a0that the idea of a Jewish state is &#8220;racist&#8221; but seem not to feel the same way about openly Islamic states: The Islamic Republic of Iran, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Islamic Republic of Mauritania<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">If the Palestinians, as well as Arab and Islamic countries, are labelling Israel as racist because it wants to define itself as a Jewish state, then they too are racists because they insist on defining themselves as &#8220;Arabs&#8221; and &#8220;Muslims.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Mansour Abbas should receive commendation for his public recognition of Israel as a Jewish state; instead, he has received\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.alquds.co.uk\/%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%BA%D8%B6%D8%A8-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%81%D9%84%D8%B3%D8%B7%D9%8A%D9%86%D9%8A-%D9%8A%D8%AA%D8%B5%D8%A7%D8%B9%D8%AF-%D8%B6%D8%AF-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B5%D9%88%D8%B1-%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B3-%D8%A7\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">threats<\/a>. These are coming from the many Palestinians and Arabs who will never accept Israel&#8217;s existence or its classification as a Jewish state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;Israel was born as a Jewish state, that was the decision of the people, and it will remain a Jewish state,&#8221; Abbas\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.i24news.tv\/en\/news\/israel\/politics\/1640089457-arab-party-leader-abbas-israel-will-remain-jewish-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Palestinians argue that one of the reasons they are opposed to the idea of Israel being a Jewish state is because it would deprive\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wafa.ps\/ar_page.aspx?id=2ByZhCa587477153274a2ByZhC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">millions<\/a>\u00a0of Palestinian refugees from achieving a &#8220;right of return.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A Palestinian &#8220;right of return&#8221; means flooding Israel with millions of Palestinians, turning it into a Palestinian state in which Jews would live as a minority under &#8220;Arab&#8221; and &#8220;Islamic&#8221; rule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This result would mean that the Palestinians would end up with two states: one in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem, and another that would replace Israel. The Palestinians, however, already have two separate mini-states: one in the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority (PA) and a second in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The PA was among the first to come out\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/wafa.ps\/Pages\/Details\/38328\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">against<\/a>\u00a0the idea of recognizing Israel as a Jewish state. Notably, this is the same PA whose leaders signed the Oslo Accords with Israel beginning in 1993, and continue to argue that they already have\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/palestineun.org\/statement-by-h-e-president-mahmoud-abbas-president-of-the-state-of-palestine-delivered-before-the-united-nations-security-council-on-the-situation-in-the-middle-east-including-the-palestine-questi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recognized<\/a>\u00a0Israel&#8217;s right to exist. This is also the same PA whose leaders continue to talk about their desire to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/wafa.ps\/Pages\/Details\/37840\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">establish<\/a>\u00a0a Palestinian state\u00a0<i>next<\/i>\u00a0to Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;The Palestinian [Authority] Presidency expressed its strong rejection and indignation at the statements of the head of the United List, Mansour Abbas, in which he calls on the Palestinian people to recognize the Jewish state,&#8221; the PA said in a\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/wafa.ps\/Pages\/Details\/38328\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">statement<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>&#8220;These irresponsible statements are consistent with the calls of extremists in Israel to displace the Palestinians and harm the status of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the history of the Palestinian people. Mansour Abbas, with such statements, represents only himself, and does not represent the Palestinian people. Such statements contradict religion, history and Palestinian heritage.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Palestinian leadership&#8217;s statement is misleading and contains a number of inaccuracies and falsehoods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">First, Mansour Abbas did not &#8220;call&#8221; on the Palestinian people to recognize Israel. He simply stated the fact that Israel was &#8220;born as a Jewish state&#8221; and that &#8220;it will remain a Jewish state.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Second, there is no connection between accepting Israel&#8217;s Jewish identity and the Islamic holy sites, including the al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem. Freedom of worship at all holy sites is guaranteed for the faithful of all three monotheistic religions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">According to the Palestinians themselves, 50,000 Muslim worshippers\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/wafa.ps\/Pages\/Details\/38836\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attended<\/a>\u00a0the Friday prayers at the al-Aqsa Mosque on December 31. The attempts, according to reports in the Palestinian media, were foiled at the last minute by the Palestinian security forces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It was not the first time Palestinians had\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-middle-east-34547523\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attacked<\/a>\u00a0and vandalized the site. On several occasions, the Palestinians have also\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/breaking-news\/police-rioters-settlers-clash-in-nablus-near-josephs-tomb-683857\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attacked<\/a>\u00a0the Jewish worshippers and the soldiers guarding them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Third, the Palestinian leadership&#8217;s claim that recognition of Israel as a Jewish state &#8220;contradicts religion and history&#8221; should be seen in the context of the Palestinians&#8217; denial of any traces of Judaism in Jerusalem. Just recently, this claim was again parroted by Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, who\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/wafa.ps\/Pages\/Details\/36229\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>&#8220;We are on the outskirts of the eternal capital [Jerusalem], the jewel in the crown, the point where heaven and earth meet. Jerusalem has Canaanite, Roman, Islamic, and Christian antiquities and is theirs alone, and no one else has any traces in it.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Interestingly, while the PA says that it is strongly\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.net\/news\/arabic\/2015\/3\/4\/%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B3-%D9%86%D8%B1%D9%81%D8%B6-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%AF%D9%88%D9%84%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D9%85%D8%A4%D9%82%D8%AA%D8%A9-%D9%83%D8%B1%D9%81%D8%B6%D9%86%D8%A7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">opposed<\/a>\u00a0to the idea of Israel being a Jewish state, it has no problem defining itself as &#8220;Arab&#8221; and &#8220;Islamic.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.venice.coe.int\/webforms\/documents\/default.aspx?pdffile=CDL(2009)008-e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Article 1<\/a>\u00a0of the Palestinian Basic Law (constitution) states: &#8220;Palestine is part of the larger Arab world, and the Palestinian people are part of the Arab nation.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.venice.coe.int\/webforms\/documents\/default.aspx?pdffile=CDL(2009)008-e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Article 4<\/a>\u00a0of the law states: &#8220;Islam is the official religion in Palestine. The principles of Islamic\u00a0<i>Shari&#8217;a<\/i>\u00a0shall be a principal source of legislation.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Palestinians, in short, are\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/gate.ahram.org.eg\/News\/3211793.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">saying<\/a>\u00a0that while Israel has no right to call itself a Jewish state, they have every right to label the Palestinian Authority as &#8220;Arab&#8221; and &#8220;Islamic.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hamas, the Palestinian Islamist movement that does not recognize Israel&#8217;s right to exist, has also\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/hamas.ps\/ar\/post\/14255\/%D8%AD%D9%85%D8%A7%D8%B3-%D8%AA%D8%B5%D8%B1%D9%8A%D8%AD%D8%A7%D8%AA-%D9%85%D9%86%D8%B5%D9%88%D8%B1-%D8%B9%D8%A8%D8%A7%D8%B3-%D8%A7%D9%86%D8%AD%D9%8A%D8%A7%D8%B2-%D9%81%D8%A7%D8%B6%D8%AD-%D9%84%D9%84%D8%B1%D9%88%D8%A7%D9%8A%D8%A9-%D8%A7%D9%84%D8%B5%D9%87%D9%8A%D9%88%D9%86%D9%8A%D8%A9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">denounced<\/a>\u00a0Mansour Abbas for recognizing Israel as a Jewish state:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>&#8220;The statements of the Israeli Knesset member [Mansour Abbas], in which he expressed his recognition of the so-called Jewish state, is nothing but a flagrant bias to the Zionist narrative, and a clear violation of the position of the Palestinian national consensus rejecting and denouncing it.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This is the same Hamas whose\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.terrorism-info.org.il\/Data\/pdf\/PDF_06_032_2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">covenant<\/a>\u00a0is rife with overt antisemitism and a commitment to the destruction of Israel through\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/irp.fas.org\/world\/para\/docs\/880818a.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">jihad<\/a>\u00a0(holy war). Like the Palestinian Authority, Hamas too wants to establish a Palestinian state where Shari&#8217;a law is the source of legislation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/avalon.law.yale.edu\/20th_century\/hamas.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Article 11<\/a>\u00a0of the Hamas charter states:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>&#8220;The Islamic Resistance Movement believes that the land of Palestine is an Islamic Waqf consecrated for future generations until Judgement Day. It, or any part of it, should not be squandered; it, or any part of it, should not be given up&#8230; this is the law governing the land of Palestine in the Islamic Shari&#8217;a and the same goes for any land the Muslims have conquered by force, because during the times of [Islamic] conquests, the Muslims consecrated these lands to Muslim generations until the Day of Judgement.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/avalon.law.yale.edu\/20th_century\/hamas.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Article 36<\/a>\u00a0of the Hamas charter states:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>&#8220;The Islamic Resistance Movement adopts Islam as its way of life. Islam is at its creed and religion. Whoever takes Islam as his way of life, be it an organization, a grouping, a country or any other body, the Islamic Resistance movement considers itself as their soldiers and nothing more.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">It is not only the Palestinians who consider Islam to be their &#8220;way of life.&#8221; There are 56\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worlddata.info\/alliances\/oic-islamic-cooperation.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">countries<\/a>\u00a0in which Islam plays a significant role.
