The New Yorker<\/em> magazine\u2019s online crossword puzzle on Wednesday described the Middle East\u2019s Negev Desert as covering \u201cpart of Palestine,\u201d issuing a correction to its original clue but still making no mention of Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n

The puzzle originally provided a clue for 10-Down that said, \u201cDesert that covers more than half of Palestine.\u201d On Thursday, that description drew criticism from the pro-Israel media watchdog group Honest Reporting, which said<\/a> that \u201cthe Negev is located within Israel\u2019s borders.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

By Friday, the magazine had changed<\/a> the clue to define the Negev as a desert that covers \u201cpart of Palestine,\u201d although still did not mention Israel.<\/span><\/p>\n

The desert region stretches from Eilat in the south to the Sinai Peninsula in the west and the Jordan Valley in the east, and in the north to Israel\u2019s coastal plain and the West Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n

The New Yorker<\/em> also noted in a correction stating that \u201ca previous version of this crossword contained an error in 10-Down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The magazine did not immediately response to an Algemeiner<\/em> request for comment.<\/span><\/p>\n
