He did not say Israel was the perpetrator, or give details.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;You didn\u2019t think that Arafat should be assassinated,&#8221;&nbsp;<em>NY Times<\/em>&nbsp;reporter Bergman asked Peres.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;No. I thought it was possible to do business with him,&#8221; Peres said in the article. &#8220;Without him, it was much more complicated. With who else could we have closed the Oslo deal?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Arafat&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/arab-israeli-conflict\/prosecutor-in-france-recommends-closing-arafat-death-inquiry-409771\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">died<\/a>&nbsp;aged 75 in a French hospital in 2004. The official cause of death given by French doctors was a massive stroke, although they said at the time they were unable to determine the origin of his illness.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">His widow,&nbsp; Suha Arafat, has made arguments that the death was a political assassination.
