Photo: Wikimedia Commons.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Regina Spektor talked about her Jewish Russian and Ukrainian heritage while commenting on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine in an Instagram post on Thursday, following Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s military invasion of the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cToday my heart hurts because no matter how many great works of art and music (Guernica\u2026. Masters Of War\u2026 Most of Okudzhava and Vysotsky\u2026 Vonnegut\u2026 Remarque\u2026 all those films in all those languages\u2026) portray the horrors of war, new Masters of War seem to rise up again in all the nations\u2026 Sending new children to slaughter each other,\u201d she\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CaXYzj6lXOZ\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wrote<\/a>. \u201cYes there\u2019s nothing funny about Peace, Love and Understanding\u2026 it\u2019s so needed right now.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Spektor shared in the Instagram post a photo that her father took of a young girl wearing a bow in her hair while sitting on a float during a celebration in the former USSR marking the end of World War II.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cAll the \u201cfrontoviki\u201d (people who fought Nazis in the war) fought the real Nazis together,\u201d she said. \u201cThe Russians and the Ukrainians, and many others-all together. People can love both cultures and be grateful for both cultures and respect each other \u2026 And all of us go floating in search of one thing: Peace.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"post_content\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The singer, who was born in Russia but said most of her grandparents are from Ukraine, also compared Putin\u2019s actions to those of the Nazis during World War II.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThere were, and still are, real Nazis in the world. But in Ukraine that are just millions of civilians being pulled into a war, and in Russia there are children being sent to fight and die for no reason other than the bottomless and horror filled \u2018more more more more more more more\u2019 of politicians and corporations,\u201d she wrote. \u201cAnd it\u2019s terrifying\u2026 this part of being a grownup sucks. Being this aware of how endless these circles seem to be.
