Why have they not elicited a similar response from the UN?\n<p><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The above list, it should be noted, is hardly comprehensive; there have been many similar attacks on churches \u2014 in Egypt alone. But because there were few, if any, fatalities, they received little or no coverage in the Western press.\n<p><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>This dismissal is especially true for those remote \u2014 and, apparently, in the views of Western media, &#8220;unimportant&#8221; \u2014 regions, such as Nigeria, where Christians are being purged hourly in a Muslim-produced genocide. Thus, after noting that Muslims have eliminated 60,000 Christians between just 2009 and 2021, an August 2021 report states that, during that same time frame, Muslims also destroyed or torched 17,500 churches and 2,000 Christian schools. How many undocumented souls perished in those largely unreported terror attacks?<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Therefore, the original question: If\u00a0<i>one<\/i>\u00a0non-Muslim attack on a mosque, which claimed 51 Muslim lives, was enough for the UN to establish an &#8220;international day to combat Islamophobia,&#8221; why have so many Muslim attacks on churches, which have claimed thousands of Christian lives, not been enough for the UN to establish an &#8220;international day to combat Christianophobia&#8221;?\n<p><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The UN, it seems, would have us ignore and brush aside all these ongoing massacres of Christian church worshippers as unfortunate byproducts of misplaced &#8220;Muslim grievances&#8221; \u2014 and instead fixate on this one singular, if admittedly horrendous, incident.\n<p><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>For the UN, evidently, one incident constitutes a &#8220;pattern&#8221; \u2014 one in dire need of recognition and response. The response is to silence, ignore or attack all those who expose the heavily documented real pattern of abuse and violence against non-Muslims \u2014 which, make no mistake, is\u00a0<i>precisely<\/i>\u00a0what &#8220;combatting Islamophobia&#8221; is all about.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gatestoneinstitute.org\/pics\/4005.jpg\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>On Easter Sunday, April 21, 2019, Muslim terrorists bombed three churches and three hotels in Sri Lanka; 359 people were killed and more than 500 wounded. (Photo by Stringer\/Getty Images)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The United Nations recently\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/2022\/03\/23\/un-foists-combat-islamophobia-day-on-the-world\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">named<\/a>\u00a0March 15 as &#8220;international day to combat Islamophobia.&#8221; That date was chosen because it witnessed one of the worst terror attacks on Muslims: on March 15, 2019, an armed Australian, Brenton Tarrant, entered two mosques in New Zealand and opened fire on unarmed and helpless Muslim worshippers; 51 were killed and 40 wounded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Not only has this incident been widely condemned throughout the West \u2014 and rightfully so. It has also caused the UN to single out Islam as needing special protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This response, however, raises a critically important question: if one non-Muslim attack on a mosque is enough for the UN to institutionalize a special day for Islam, what about the countless, often worse, Muslim attacks on non-Muslim places of worship? Why have they not elicited a similar response from the UN?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Consider some of the fatal Muslim attacks on Christian churches \u2014 many, to underscore the religious animosity, occurring just on Easter or Christmas \u2014 in recent years:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/2019\/04\/25\/359-people-were-in-pieces-easter-day-islamic-terror-in-sri-lanka\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Sri Lanka<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Apr. 21, 2019): Easter Sunday, Muslim terrorists bombed three churches and three hotels; 359 people were killed and more than 500 wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spyghana.com\/police-and-boko-haram-massacre-over-150-dead\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nigeria<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Apr. 20, 2014): Easter Sunday, Islamic terrorists torched a packed church; 150 were killed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.pakistantoday.com.pk\/2016\/03\/28\/six-killed-over-30-wounded-in-lahores-gulshan-iqbal-park-blast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pakistan<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Mar. 27, 2016): After Easter Sunday church services, Islamic terrorists bombed a park where Christians had congregated; more than 70 Christians \u2014 mostly women and children \u2014 were killed. &#8220;There was human flesh on the walls of our house,&#8221; a witness\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.pakistantoday.com.pk\/2016\/03\/28\/six-killed-over-30-wounded-in-lahores-gulshan-iqbal-park-blast\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">recalled<\/a>.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/11\/02\/world\/middleeast\/02iraq.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Iraq<\/b><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(Oct. 31, 2011): Islamic terrorists stormed a church in Baghdad during worship and opened fire indiscriminately before detonating their suicide vests. Nearly 60 Christians \u2014 including women, children, and babies \u2014 were killed (graphic pictures of aftermath\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/2013\/05\/19\/graphic-images-of-christian-persecution-under-islam\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/zeenews.india.com\/news\/world\/50-people-killed-in-easter-sunday-bombings-in-nigeria_768956.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nigeria<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Apr. 8, 2012): Easter Sunday, explosives planted by Muslims detonated near two packed churches; more than 50 were killed, and unknown numbers wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hrw.org\/news\/2017\/04\/12\/egypt-horrific-palm-sunday-bombings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Egypt<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Apr. 9, 2017): Palm Sunday, Muslims bombed two packed churches; at least 45 were killed, more than 100 wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/20130113105453\/http:\/www.trust.org\/alertnet\/news\/nigeria-church-bomb-death-toll-rises-to-37-wounded-57\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nigeria<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Dec. 25, 2011): During Christmas Day services, Muslim terrorists shot up and bombed three churches; 37 were killed and nearly 57 wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.egyptindependent.com\/botroseya-church-bombing-death-toll-rises-29-victims\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Egypt<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Dec. 11, 2016): An Islamic suicide bombing of two churches left 29 people killed and 47 wounded (graphic images of aftermath\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/2016\/12\/19\/pictures-islamic-suicide-bombing-looks-like\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2018\/may\/13\/deaths-bomb-attacks-churches-indonesia-surabaya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Indonesia<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(May 13, 2018): Muslims bombed three churches; 13 were killed and dozens wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aina.org\/news\/20110101232613.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Egypt<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Jan. 1, 2011): Muslim terrorists bombed a church in Alexandria during New Year&#8217;s Eve mass; at least 21 Christians were killed. According to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.aina.org\/news\/20110101232613.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">eyewitnesses<\/a>, &#8220;body parts were strewn all over the street outside&#8221; and &#8220;were brought inside the church after some Muslims started stepping on them and shouting Jihadi chants,&#8221; such as &#8220;Allahu Akbar!&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/01\/27\/world\/asia\/philippines-jolo-cathedral-bombing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Philippines<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Jan. 27, 2019): Muslim terrorists bombed a cathedral; at least 20 were killed, and more than 100 wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Christmas_Eve_2000_Indonesia_bombings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Indonesia<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Dec. 24, 2000): During Christmas Eve services, Muslim terrorists bombed several churches; 18 were killed and over 100 wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-31894708\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Pakistan<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Mar. 15, 2015): Muslim suicide bombers killed at least 14 Christians in attacks on two churches.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-59048891\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Germany<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(Dec. 19, 2016): Near the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin, a Muslim man drove a truck into a Christmas market; 13 were killed and 55 wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/attack-targeting-coptic-christian-church-leaves-9-dead-egypt-n833401\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Egypt<\/b><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(Dec. 29, 2017): Muslim gunmen shot up a church in Cairo; nine were killed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/middle_east\/8444851.stm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Egypt<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u00a0(Jan. 6, 2010): After Christmas Eve mass (according to the Orthodox calendar), Muslims shot six Christians dead as they exited their church.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/02\/18\/world\/europe\/russia-dagestan-attack.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Russia<\/b><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(Feb. 18, 2018): A Muslim man carrying a knife and a double-barreled shotgun entered a church and opened fire; five people \u2014 all women \u2014 were killed, and at least five wounded.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-36892785\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>France<\/b><\/a><\/span>\u00a0(July 26, 2016): Muslims entered a church and slit the throat of the officiating priest, 84-year-old Fr. How many undocumented souls perished in those largely unreported terror attacks?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The list above of fatal Muslim attacks on churches does not include any of the many that were botched, for example, a March 28, 2021\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.channelnewsasia.com\/asia\/indonesia-church-suicide-bomber-jad-terrorism-jolo-287406\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">attack on a church<\/a>\u00a0during Palm Sunday service, where only the suicide bombers \u2014 a Muslim man and his pregnant wife \u2014 died.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In these fatal church attacks alone, Muslims have massacred hundreds of Christians, not even including the thousands of Christians and other Western people massacred in non-church attacks, including\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.govinfo.gov\/content\/pkg\/CHRG-112hhrg73741\/html\/CHRG-112hhrg73741.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">9\/11<\/a>,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.history.com\/this-day-in-history\/terrorists-attack-london-transit-system-at-rush-hour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">London&#8217;s 7\/7\/2005<\/a>\u00a0transit system attacks, Paris&#8217;s\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2020\/12\/16\/947122749\/14-accomplices-found-guilty-of-aiding-2015-charlie-hebdo-attacks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>Charlie Hebdo<\/i><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-54924051\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bataclan<\/a>\u00a0Theater attack,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2017\/08\/17\/europe\/barcelona-las-ramblas-van-hits-crowd\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Barcelona&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0Las Ramblas attack,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/2021\/07\/14\/On-This-Day-Bastille-Day-attack-kills-86-in-Nice-France\/3761626210456\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nice&#8217;s July 14<\/a>\u00a0attack,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.euronews.com\/2022\/03\/20\/toulouse-shootings-france-honours-victims-on-10th-anniversary-of-antisemitic-attacks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Toulouse&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0Jewish school attack,\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eurojust.europa.eu\/sites\/default\/files\/2018-06\/2016-12_Berlin-terrorist-attack.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Berlin&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0Winter Market and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2015\/feb\/14\/copenhagen-blasphemy-lars-vilks-prophet-muhammad-krudttonden-cafe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Copenhagen&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0terror attacks, to name just a few.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Therefore, the original question: If\u00a0<i>one<\/i>\u00a0non-Muslim attack on a mosque, which claimed 51 Muslim lives, was enough for the UN to establish an &#8220;international day to combat Islamophobia,&#8221; why have so many Muslim attacks on churches, which have claimed thousands of Christian lives, not been enough for the UN to establish an &#8220;international day to combat Christianophobia&#8221;?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Put another way, why is one immensely reprehensible but lone incident of a Western man killing 51 Muslims of far greater importance to the UN than the countless instances of Muslims killing untold numbers of Christians?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">If ever cornered and forced to explain this discrepancy, no doubt the UN would say that, unfortunate as all of those church and other attacks might be, they do not reveal a pattern, the way &#8220;Islamophobia&#8221; does; that church attacks are all byproducts of terrorism (which reportedly is in no way connected to Islam) fueled by economics, territorial disputes and inequality, in a word, &#8220;grievances.&#8221; Fix those temporal problems and attacks on churches will cease.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In reality, the exact opposite appears to be true: whereas the New Zealand mosque attack was indeed an aberration \u2014 evidenced by its singularity \u2014 Muslim attacks on churches are extremely common, not only now but throughout\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/2013\/04\/26\/death-to-churches-under-islam-a-study-of-the-coptic-church-part-i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">history<\/a>. In Turkey, for example, one can see what became of the great Christian Byzantine Empire after it was first invaded by Arabs in the seventh century, to when Constantinople fell to Sultan Mehmed II in 1453, and on to the early 20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0century\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/theaggie.org\/2020\/04\/24\/revisiting-the-armenian-assyrian-and-greek-genocides-a-century-later\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">genocide<\/a>\u00a0of Armenians, Assyrians and Pontic Greeks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">As can be seen\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.raymondibrahim.com\/2021\/11\/18\/ten-years-of-muslim-persecution-of-christians\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>, seldom does a month pass in the Muslim world today, and increasingly in the West, without several assaults on, or harassments of, churches taking place. While some of these, fortunately, may not have been fatal, they all underscore Islam&#8217;s indisposition to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/international\/archive\/2012\/03\/destroy-all-the-churches-saudi-arabias-poor-treatment-of-christians\/254650\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">churches<\/a>, and, it would seem, to any religious\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/morningstarnews.org\/2018\/06\/how-muslim-mobs-attack-christians-churches-in-egypt-with-impunity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">structure<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.meforum.org\/3188\/islam-tradition-breaking-cross\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">symbol<\/a>\u00a0that is not part of Islam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Revealingly, those who terrorize churches often share little with one another: they come from widely different nations (Nigeria, Iraq, Philippines, etc.), are of different races, speak different languages, and live under different socio-economic conditions. The only thing they\u00a0<i>do<\/i>\u00a0share\u2014the one thing that, it seems, leads them to assault churches and murder Christians \u2014 appears to be their\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jacksonville.com\/story\/opinion\/columns\/mike-clark\/2015\/02\/03\/islam-quran-itself-preaches-violence-against-nonbelievers\/985431007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">religion<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In other words, Muslim attacks on churches seem to have an ideological source, are systemic, and therefore an actual, ongoing problem that the international community needs to highlight and ameliorate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Yet the UN would have us ignore and brush aside all these ongoing massacres of Christian church worshippers as unfortunate byproducts of misplaced &#8220;Muslim grievances&#8221; \u2014 and instead fixate on one solitary, if admittedly horrendous, incident.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">For the UN, evidently, one incident constitutes a &#8220;pattern&#8221; \u2014 one in dire need of recognition and response.
