It is blinded by a hatred for Israel, and instead of standing up for the values upon which this international institution was founded, it prefers to give credence to terrorists and forces that actively work to undermine democracy and freedom.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">This time, it was the UN\u2019s initial report by its highly contentious Commission of Inquiry led by Navanethem Pillay, the former UN high commissioner for human rights. In the report, Pillay and her two colleagues concluded that Israel is largely to blame for its conflict with the Palestinians.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe commission notes the strength of prima facie credible evidence available that convincingly indicates that Israel has no intention of ending the occupation, has a clear policy of reassuring the complete control over the occupied Palestinian Territory and is acting to alter the demography through the maintenance of a repressive environment for Palestinians and a favorable environment for Israeli settlers,\u201d the report said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Israel slammed the report and said it was \u201cnothing more than a waste of money and effort of the United Nations\u2019 systems\u201d and \u201cpart and parcel of the witch hunt being carried out by the Human Rights Council against Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"fake-br-for-article-body\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">UN Watch executive director Hillel Neuer also criticized the document, highlighting how it turns a blind eye to Palestinian terrorism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/images.jpost.com\/image\/upload\/f_auto,fl_lossy\/t_JD_ArticleMainImageFaceDetect\/483295\" width=\"100%\" \/><span style=\"color: #808080;\"><em>Deputy Minister, Alvin Botes delivers a National Statement at the Annual High Level Panel on Human Rights Mainstreaming under the theme \u201cThirty years of implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child: challenges and opportunities\u201d, at the UNHRC, Geneva. (credit: FLICKR)<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe report turns a blind eye to\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/israel-news\/article-708853\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Palestinian terrorism<\/a>\u00a0and embraces the Hamas narrative that Israel is the root cause of all conflict,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is exactly what we expected from Navi Pillay, who actively lobbies governments to \u2018sanction apartheid Israel\u2019 and to condemn Israel for the very conflict that she is meant to investigate.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">As an example, Neuer counted the number of times Israel and Hamas appeared in the report. Israel was mentioned 157 times, Hamas just three and Islamic Jihad and Iran not even once.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">What the United Nations fails to realize is that reports like these do not help solve the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. They encourage it. The Palestinians \u2013 and specifically terrorist groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad \u2013 receive a feeling from reports like these that their crimes can go unpunishable and that there is no reason for them to stop attacking innocent civilians.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"g-row\">\n<div class=\"margin-container-body-text\">\n<div id=\"startBannerSticky\" class=\"article-inner-content\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The US State Department recognized this, calling the report out and saying the \u201cCommission of Inquiry in its current form is a continuation of a longstanding pattern of unfairly singling out Israel.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cAs we have stated repeatedly, we firmly oppose the open-ended and vaguely defined nature of the UN Human Rights Council\u2019s Commission of Inquiry on the situation in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza, which represents a one-sided, biased approach that does nothing to advance the prospects for peace,\u201d State Department spokesman Ned Price said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The hypocrisy of the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.jpost.com\/international\/article-706433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Human Rights Council<\/a>\u00a0never ceases to amaze.\u00a0Mauritania, Pakistan, Somalia and Qatar all have laws to kill homosexuals and all have seats on the UN Human Rights Council. China, not exactly a country known for its upstanding record on human rights, also sits on the council.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Can we really expect anything fair and objective to come out of such a body?<\/span><\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Sadly, we know the answer. But the UN needs to know what the consequences are for its actions. Reports like the one drafted by Pillay ensure one thing \u2013 the perpetuation of conflict and war. The fact is, on the same day that the report came out, Israel announced it was increasing the number of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip who are allowed into Israel daily to work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Such a move shows what Israel is after \u2013 finding a way to coexist with its neighbors, even those who fire rockets at it.
