Photo: Wikimedia Commons.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A collection of wine bottles that feature an image of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler on its labels are being sold in Italy as collectible items and are attracting German tourists.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The wine bottles show Hitler in a range of poses with slogans such as \u201cMein F\u00fchrer\u201d (\u201cMy Leader\u201d), \u201cSieg Heil\u201d (\u201cHail to Victory\u201d) and \u201cEin Volk, Ein Reich, Ein F\u00fchrer\u201d (One People, One Realm, One Leader\u201d).<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The bottles are made by Italian winemaker&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vinilunardelli.com\/prodotti\/elenco.php?categoria=28&amp;sottocategoria=36\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Vini Lunardelli<\/a>, who founded his winery in 1967 and and started his Historical Series of wines in 1995. About half of the company\u2019s bottled wine production is dedicated to the Historical Series, which now has over 50 different labels that showcase images of dictators such as Joseph Stalin, Vladimir Lenin, Benito Mussolini, Che Guevara, Napoleon Bonaparte and Francisco Franco. The wines have become a \u201ccult object among the collectors,\u201d according to the company\u2019s website.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Austrian cosmetic surgeon Dagmar Millesi, from Vienna, Austria, reportedly told Austrian media this week that German tourists were traveling to the resort of Jesolo near Venice to buy the wine,&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/39613cee-18ce-11ed-b4a0-f11f082a3a3c?shareToken=996caa2c6c73725c49bfcc4f3f47278f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Times<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;reported. She said she was shocked to see the items being sold in a supermarket in Jesolo and that she complained to a store employee about the bottles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cThe store employee said&nbsp;Germans very much like to buy these wines, and they are clearly the big hit there,\u201d she said. \u201cThe saleswoman was even amused at my outrage . . . nobody is angry about it, no one forbids it . . . I couldn\u2019t believe it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"responsive__Paragraph-sc-1pktst5-0 fKDjKV\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">While the sale of products showcasing swastikas and many other fascist imagery are illegal in Germany and Austria, they are still legal in Italy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The wine bottles with Hitler\u2019s image have been outraging people for years and the Simon Wiesenthal Center&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/europe\/italy\/10236043\/Wiesenthal-Centre-calls-for-boycott-of-Hitler-wine.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">called<\/a>&nbsp;for their boycott in 2013. When Jewish lawyer Matthew Hirsch from Philadelphia saw the bottles being sold in a small supermarket in the northern town of Garda while on vacation in Italy in 2012, he complained but was allegedly told by the store owner they were \u201cpart of history.\u201d He told&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/worldnews\/europe\/italy\/9462729\/Italian-Hitler-wine-bottles-offensive.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The Daily Telegraph<\/em><\/a>, \u201cI was shocked. It is not just an affront to Jews \u2026 It is an affront to humanity as a whole.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Italian integration minister Andrea Riccardi said at the time, \u201cI want to reassure our American friends who visit our country that our Constitution and our culture rejects racism, antisemitism and Nazi fascism. This offends the memory of millions of people and risks compromising the image of Italy abroad.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Italian city of Remini receives five or six complaints a year on average about Lunardelli\u2019s Historical Series, city mayor Andrea Grassi told&nbsp;<a style=\"color: #000080;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/italian-mayor-says-hands-tied-in-fighting-hitler-wine-products\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The<\/em>&nbsp;<em>Times of Israel<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;in 2018.
