The 74th Emmy Awards on Monday night had two big Jewish winners: Julia Garner won best supporting actress in a drama series for her role in \u201cOzark\u201d while Brett Goldstein was given the Emmy for best supporting actor in a comedy series for playing Roy Kent on the Apple TV+<\/em> show \u201cTed Lasso.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Monday night\u2019s win was Garner\u2019s third Emmy award for her role as Ruth Langmore in the Netflix series, which concluded in May after four seasons. She previously took home the accolade in 2019 and 2020. In her acceptance speech, Garner, 28, thanked<\/a> \u201cOzark\u201d showrunner Chris Mundy and all the show\u2019s writers, saying, \u201cThank you for writing Ruth, she\u2019s changed my life.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Garner continued by applauding her costars Jason Bateman, \u201cfor taking a chance on me,\u201d and Laura Linney, who has \u201cbeen such a guiding light to me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Garner was nominated alongside Patricia Arquette (\u201cSeverance\u201d), Jung Ho-yeon (\u201cSquid Games\u201d), Christina Ricci (\u201cYellowjackets\u201d), Rhea Seehorn (\u201cBetter Call Saul\u201d), J. Smith-Cameron (\u201cSuccession\u201d), Sarah Snook (\u201cSuccession\u201d) and Sydney Sweeney (\u201cEuphoria\u201d). \u201cOzark\u201d received a total of four nominations at the Emmy Awards this year and Garner was additionally nominated in the limited series category for her lead role in \u201cInventing Anna.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In his own acceptance speech at the Emmys on Monday night, Goldstein thanked<\/a> those involved for \u201ccreating this magical thing and letting me be a little part of it. I will never take it for granted.\u201d The British Jewish actor, who also won last year for his role in the Apple TV+<\/em> sports series, added that the hardest part about being in \u201cTed Lasso,\u201d \u201cis being in a scene with anyone from this cast and not ruining the take by just staring at them and going, \u2018God, you\u2019re good.’\u201d He concluded by thanking his Jewish family back home in Britain.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goldstein\u2019s competition in the category was Anthony Carrigan (\u201cBarry\u201d), Toheeb Jimoh (\u201cTed Lasso\u201d), Nick Mohammed (\u201cTed Lasso\u201d), Tony Shalhoub (\u201cThe Marvelous Mrs. Maisel\u201d), Tyler James Williams (\u201cAbbott Elementary\u201d), Henry Winkler (\u201cBarry\u201d) and Bowen Yang (\u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d). \u201cTed Lasso\u201d won a number of awards on Monday night, including best comedy and best actor in a comedy series for its lead actor Jason Sudeikis.<\/span><\/p>\n

NBC<\/em>\u2019s \u201cSaturday Night Live,\u201d whose creator and longtime showrunner Lorne Michaels is Jewish, won the award for outstanding variety\/sketch series, which was the show\u2019s sixth straight win in the category, and Russian Jewish film music editor Lena Glikson took home<\/a> an Emmy on Sept. 4 for outstanding sound editing for a comedy or drama series\u201d for her work on season 4 of the Netflix series \u201cStranger Things.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
