An antisemitic \u201chate crimes pandemic\u201d has been breaking out in the Stamford Hill and Hackney sections of London since October 29, according to information released by the area\u2019s Jewish community watch group, Shomrim.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe racism pandemic continues,\u201d the group\u00a0tweeted<\/a>\u00a0on Tuesday, reporting on an incident \u2014 one of eight that have occurred in just several days \u2014 in which a known local assaulted a Jewish resident of Stamford Hill while yelling, \u201cYou Jews, you think you run the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

In another, a man broke into a synagogue\u2019s school, stealing $340 worth of salmon and, Shomrim said, \u201cleaving the children without a proper lunch.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

A previous wave of antisemitic assaults over the summer put the London Jewish community on high alert.<\/span><\/p>\n

In July, a woman\u00a0wielding<\/a>\u00a0a wooden stick approached a Jewish woman near the Seven Sisters area and declared,\u201dI am doing it because you are Jew,\u201d while striking her over the head and pouring liquid on her. The next day, the same woman, described by an eyewitness as a \u201cserial racist, chased a mother and her baby with a wooden stick after spraying liquid on the baby.<\/span><\/p>\n

In other, separate episodes reported by Shomrim, a woman threatened Jewish congregants leaving Shabbat services on Friday night, shouting, \u201cf*** you Jews, I will kill you,\u201d while another account\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0\u201chundreds of Jewish men and boys\u201d being similarly harassed as they returned from synagogue.<\/span><\/p>\n

In August, the United Kingdom\u2019s Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) began a criminal trial against Abdullah Qureshi, who trekked 200 miles from West Yorkshire to Stamford Hill to assault members of the Jewish community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The incidents\u00a0\u00a0all took place<\/a>\u00a0that month. In the first, Qureshi struck a 30-year-old man on the head with a bottle. A second victim was a 14-year-old boy whom he physically assaulted. The third was a 64-year-old man whom he brutally punched in the face, causing him to fall and break a bone in his foot.<\/span><\/p>\n

Not all assailants face criminal charges, however. In February, Dave Rich, Head of Policy at Community Security Trust (CST), argued that \u201ctoo few cases reach court\u201d despite that nearly a quarter of religiously motivated hate crimes in London target the Jewish community.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018The wheels of justice of justice seem to be stuck,\u201d he\u00a0wrote<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year, Metropolitan Police has so far\u00a0recorded<\/a>\u00a0466 antisemitic hate crimes in London. CPS does not provide data showing how many suspects it has charged and tried.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
