Photo: Reuters\/Ammar Awad<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Hundreds of mourners gathered in Jerusalem on Wednesday to pay their final respects to a Canadian-Israeli yeshiva student&nbsp; murdered in a bombing in the Israeli capital earlier in the day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Aryeh Shechopek, 16, was heading to his yeshiva at Moshav Beit Meir outside Jerusalem when the first of two explosive devices \u2014 both embedded with nails and marbles to maximize damage \u2014 were detonated remotely near a bus stop by the entrance to Jerusalem. He was declared dead after being evacuated to Shaare Zedek Medical Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Some 26 people were reported injured, some seriously, in the twin bombings, including a friend of Shechopek\u2019s who was traveling with him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cI just want to say bye to my son Aryeh,\u201d said his father, Moshe Shechopek, to a somber crowd. \u201cOnly one thing comes to mind, what\u2019s important and what\u2019s not. To appreciate every minute with the child and with the family.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rabbi Naftali Schreiber, the head of Shechopek\u2019s yeshiva, said the teenager was initially feeling unwell in the morning and considered staying at home with his supervisor\u2019s encouragement, before overcoming his condition and deciding to go to school. A young man \u201cwho fought hard with all his strength, set himself on a good path, had a future for greatness,\u201d said Schreiber. \u201cNo one ever saw anger in this boy, he didn\u2019t know what anger was. He would walk in the street and help anyone possible, he was beloved by all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Rabbi Yehuda Moshkovich, also of Shechopek\u2019s yeshiva, remembered the student as \u201ca charming guy\u201d who \u201cfought like a lion for every goal he took on.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Shechopek was also mourned by Israeli leaders, with Prime Minister Yair Lapid describing him as \u201ca boy who never wronged anyone in the world.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u201cHe was murdered simply because he was Jewish,\u201d said Lapid in a statement on the attack.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">In a statement on social media, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau sent his \u201cdeepest condolences\u201d to Shechopek\u2019s family and friends, saying he was \u201cincredibly saddened\u201d to learn of his death. \u201cCanada condemns this violence in the strongest possible terms.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">The Israeli military\u2019s chief of staff, Lt. Gen.
