Trump vetoes the world
– US to UN: “It won’t be forgotten.”

Nikki Haley

Nice try.

The UN Security Council tried to slip one past Nikki Haley. You’d think those bums would know her by now.

Of course she nixed a resolution that was intended to overturn President Trump’s…and hence America’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Then, of the 14 nations that voted in favor of the resolution, she said this – “What happened today at the Security Council is an insult. It won’t be forgotten.”

She wasn’t smiling…and neither was she saying, but it’s been noted, that the United States can stop funding the UN.
Step two would get it out of New York and into Brussels, which serves as capital to the European Union
From Brussels, by the way, EU commissar Dimitris Avramopolous, one of the men who thinks he runs the world not just Europe, complains that Europe is “too white.” Therefore more migrants are needed, millions of them both legal and illegal, in order to save the continent and create “a new norm.”

Good luck with that, Dimitris.

Actually it’s the United States that runs the world…or enough of it that Trump can tell the rest of them to go fly a kite. We don’t give a damn.

In that spirit, Haley told the Security Council that the United States won’t be pushed around; nobody tells us what to do – where or when we can place our embassies.

Which will shortly be in Jerusalem…and also about Jerusalem, specifically the Western Wall, both Trump and Haley aver that it belongs to Israel.

UN Resultion 2334 said otherwise, but that was under Obama, the anti-Semite who ran with that crowd.

That wasn’t forgotten either – 2334. Nikki Haley let them know that it was such one-sided interference (always against Israel) that led to so much bloodshed.
Haley promised and threatened that the United States “won’t make that mistake again”…about abstaining in order to let that cursed resolution sail through.

Those Happy Days…those Obama days…are over…and of course it’s got The New York Times in a snit.

About Monday’s veto, you can read the editorial yourself, but why bother when I can give it to you in a snap, as follows –

Nothing belongs to the Israelis. Everything belongs to the Palestinian Arabs. Period. You expected something different from the American news media?

From Trump, through Haley at the UN, we find Israel and the United States in the same boat…two liberty-loving countries against the world…and it’s near Biblical.

Think of that chapter in the Book of Numbers.

Pagan prophet Balaam declares: “It is a people that dwells in solitude; not to be reckoned among the nations.”

He was talking about Israel…and it’s generally been taken to mean that Israel is destined to be shunned.

Wrong interpretation, says Rashi. It means that when the nations are gathered for reckoning, judgment and punishment, Israel will be spared.

I say, by degrees, it’s already happening at the UN.

Seems to me that the United States shares that blessing in view of God’s hand at work through President Donald Trump and Ambassador Nikki Haley.

Can I get me an Amen?

Last hurrah for Jewish Żelechów?

Last hurrah for Jewish Żelechów?

Josh Korn

It’s not every day that I meet people who have a direct connection to my existence. But there they were — three unassuming women I’d never met before. Without the risks taken by their families 75 years ago, I would never have been born.

Just over two (now three) weeks ago, in a ceremony in Lublin, Poland, Yad Vashem awarded the Righteous Among Nations honour to 15 people. Among them were five people from the environs of Żelechów, a town roughly 75 km southeast of Warsaw, with a pre-war population of about 8,000 people.

What made Żelechów unique was the fact that about 65 percent of its population was Jewish. Żelechów boasted a fine synagogue, a gmilat hesed mutual aid society (the forerunner of today’s angel funders), many Zionist organizations which, as in just about every other town in eastern Europe, detested each other with a passion, and even a HaPo’el Żelechów soccer team.

The SS moved in during September 1939, and by October 1940 they had crammed not just all the Jews of Żelechów, but also another 2,000 Jews from the surrounding countryside, into a ghetto with no walls or fences. Since the market area was inside the ghetto, non-Jews could enter, but Jews were not allowed to leave: if found outside its confines, they would be shot on sight.

On September 27 1942, word got around that the SS was coming to liquidate the ghetto on September 30. Inside the ghetto, people already knew that anyone still inside the ghetto that day would be sent to the Treblinka death camp.

Over the next few days, approximately 30 Jews were spirited away from the ghetto and concealed by the five people whose actions ultimately saved more than half of them from certain death: Edward Turek, his brother-in-law, Władysław Sokoł, Sokoł’s wife Julianna and their sons Zdzisław and Jan. Turek arranged for the people to escape from the ghetto, while the Sokołs concealed them in underground hideouts in nearby Stryj and Wilczyska, on Sokoł’s own farm.

The families were successfully concealed for almost two full years. But in June 1944, someone tipped off the locations of the hideouts to a particularly vicious group of Poles known as the Armia Krajowa (AK), who raided the hideouts in search of money (of course, Jews always had lots of money, according to the AK’s twisted beliefs). During those raids, fifteen people were killed, many dying in the arms of their loved ones.

After that, the remaining people scattered, some to the nearby fields (luckily, it was then summer), others, such as my mother, to other hideouts, and my grandmother and her other two daughters to Sokoł’s nearby barn where barely a month later they were found by the Gestapo, who had been tipped off by neighbours. All three women — and Sokoł — were taken to Żelechów, held for three days and then murdered in cold blood.

Over 70 years later, the accounts of this period are still gripping. Together with details discovered as recently as two weeks ago, they make it possible for descendants who weren’t there to grasp how paper-thin was the margin for error: one of Edward Turek’s own brothers tipped off the locations of the hideouts to the AK.

Of roughly 6,000 Jews in pre-war Żelechów, barely 100 survived the war. They scattered, literally, to the four corners of the earth: Australia, Costa Rica, France, Israel and Colombia. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the Żelechówer Bulletin was distributed to every surviving Żelechów family in the world. Truly, a global brand, long before its time.

Today, Żelechów has about 4,000 people, and predictably, no Jews. It would seem as though its Jewish history has come to a close.

So was this ceremony the last hurrah for Jewish Żelechów?

Surprisingly, no.

By sheer good fortune, one of the grandsons of Żelechów survivors — David Lukowiecki — has become a brilliant and dogged researcher of his own heritage. The Facebook group he created, Jewish Żelechów, now sports close to 400 members. It’s full of names I recognize and people I know, and it has what one of my Melbourne cousins said is that Żelechówer “one big family” feel. Not a week goes by without someone sharing a document, a photo or a story that sheds new light on the people we knew and cared about. They all make for compelling reading; after all, they’re authentic.

Lebanese foreign minister on future war with Israel: “Lebanon is sure to win”

Lebanese foreign minister on future war with Israel: “Lebanon is sure to win”

Lebanese Foreign Minister Gebran Bassil was interviewed by the Russian RT television channel on Friday regarding the rising tensions between his country and Saudi Arabia. During the interview, Bassil sent a direct threat to Israel: “We should not be provoking Israel into a war simply because it is likely to lose it.”

When asked about the Israeli and American intervention in the regional tensions and the crisis between the Shiite axis in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia, Bassil responded: “We should restrain Israel from starting a war exactly because Lebanon is sure to win it.”

Bassil was interviewed by RT while he was on an official visit to Moscow, where he tried to relay a relatively comforting message to the Saudi leadership: “We are ready to act in case of such developments, but we are trying to do everything we can to prevent this from happening and to maintain a good relationship with Saudi Arabia.” The Lebanese official added that his government plans to continue its diplomatic approach as long as Lebanon does not come under attack.

“Any country can take action against Hezbollah like the US does, even though the leader of Hezbollah has said repeatedly: ‘If you want to fight us, you can fight us, but leave Lebanon alone. We don’t want Lebanon to suffer because of us,’” he added. Bassil then warned that any country that tries to harm Lebanese citizens will “face consequences.”

Meanwhile, a senior Lebanese official told Reuters on Saturday that Bassil may not attend a special Arab League meeting that was initiated by Saudi Arabia and the other Gulf states. The source said that Bassil wants to avoid a possible confrontation with Riyadh over the regional tensions and the intervention of Shiite groups, including Hezbollah, in the Yemen crisis. The meeting, which is scheduled to be held in Cairo, is supposed to focus on the possible ways to deal with Iran’s influence on the region.

Former Israeli envoy to US decries Kerry’s ‘obsession’ with Israel

Former Israeli envoy to US decries Kerry’s ‘obsession’ with Israel

After former US secretary of state John Kerry claimed Israel sought US military action prior to the Iran nuclear deal, MK Michael Oren responded that Kerry reserves an “acrid and sometimes obsessive place for us and [Netanyahu].”

Israel’s former ambassador to the US, MK Michael Oren, slammed former US Secretary of State John Kerry Wednesday for comments he made this week claiming that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “agitated” for the US to bomb Iran prior to the signing of the nuclear agreement.

Oren described Kerry as having an “acrid and obsessive” attitude toward the Israeli prime minister, who found himself falling out of favor with Kerry more than once under the Obama administration.

Kerry irked many in Israel when he told a forum in Washington that Netanyahu, along with then-Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Saudi King Abdullah, individually told him that the US had to bomb Iran.

“Each of them said to me, ‘you have to bomb Iran, it’s the only thing they are going to understand,’” Kerry claimed, describing their exhortations as “a trap.”

“More importantly,” Kerry continued, “Prime Minister Netanyahu was genuinely agitating toward action.”

Despite Kerry’s claims, Oren insisted that “Israel, along with other like-minded governments in the Middle East, understood that a credible American military option was the only way to resolve the Iranian nuclear threat, whether militarily or diplomatically.”

The Kulanu MK echoed the line repeatedly espoused by Netanyahu, positing that the primary goal was never a military adventure against Iran, but rather to achieve “a better deal.”

“And one of the ways you could get a better deal was to have a credible military threat,” Oren said, adding that a credible military threat would have decreased the chances of it ever being implemented.

“The irony was that the more credible the military threat, the less likely you would have to use it,” he argued.

Addressing Kerry’s latest jab at Netanyahu, which he said was indicative of his “acrimonious and sometimes obsessive place for us, and for the prime minister,” Oren also reiterated his disagreement with the former US official, who “thinks that the Iran nuclear deal was a historic diplomatic achievement.” Oren, however, disagreed with the notion, insisting that it endangered future generations.

“I personally feel that it was the collapse of American credibility in the Middle East and a significant danger to our future and the future of our children. That is a huge difference.”

Oren’s assertion that Kerry harbors acrimonious predisposition toward Israel was also partially formed at the end of 2016 when the US administration refused to veto UN Resolution 2334, demanding an end to Israeli construction in Judea and Samaria, and declaring all existing communities in the region as illegal.

“The truth is that trends on the ground—violence, terrorism, incitement, settlement expansion and the seemingly endless occupation—are destroying hopes for peace on both sides and increasingly cementing an irreversible one-state reality that most people do not actually want,” Kerry said in a speech defending the US’ decision to abstain from the vote.
