Ex-KKK leader: Ilhan Omar the most important member of Congress

Embattled House Democrat Ilhan Omar of Minnesota won the backing of former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke Thursday evening, amid an ongoing scandal over allegations Omar repeatedly peddled in anti-Semitic tropes during dustups with fellow lawmakers.

On Thursday, Duke lauded Omar on his Thunder and Lightning webcast, calling her the “most important member of the US Congress”, citing her “defiance to ZOG [Zionist Occupied Government].”

“Simply stated, she is important because the dared expose the gorilla in Congress that nobody dares speak,” Duke later tweeted. “There is no salvation of our people heritage, rights and freedom until Z.O.G is overthrown!”

Duke, a former member of the Louisiana House of Representatives, called the criticism on Omar’s comments a “big mistake for our Zio-establishment, the Jewish establishment of media and government.”

“I’m elated by the huge controversy that’s going on now,” Duke continued, saying Omar’s comments and the subsequent backlash brought into focus what he claims is Israeli influence and “the power of the Jewish elite” over the US government.

“We truly do have a…Zionist Occupied Government,” said Duke, referring to the canard promoted by Duke and others that the US government has been subverted by a group of pro-Israel Jews.

In a tweet Friday, Duke again lauded Omar, touting the “bravery of a 100lb Muslim woman”.

“I made this provocative statement cause the worst enemy of the USA, Europeans and the Middle East & the whole world & true peace are the Zionist tyrants who rule media and politics. Sadly, This 100lb girl has more guts than any white member of congress!”

The former KKK leader also attacked President Trump on Twitter Friday morning, suggesting his loyalties lie with Israel, rather than the US, uploading a picture of the president holding an Israeli flag, ignoring a group of Democratic lawmakers trampling the US flag.

While Duke has distanced himself from the KKK following his departure from the group, he later founded the National Association for the Advancement of White People, an organization accused of promoting white supremacy and anti-Semitism under the guise of “equal rights” for white Americans.

Duke has also been widely condemned for his Holocaust denial and conspiracy theories alleging Jewish plots to control the US government and monetary system, and to actively promote homosexuality and the ultimate destruction of the white race.

Omar, a freshman congresswoman and Somali immigrant who entered the US as a refugee, has been the center of an ongoing debate over a Democratic resolution in the House originally aimed at condemning anti-Semitism.

The Minnesota Democrat has been accused by both Republicans and Democrats of channeling classic anti-Semitic canards regarding Jewish influence and dual allegiances, after she accused a pro-Israel Jewish group of buying off Congress to back Israel, and suggesting her critics were loyal to a foreign country – Israel.

The freshman congresswoman also drew criticism over a 2012 social media post in which she accused Israel of ‘hypnotizing’ the world. Omar later said her choice of words was “unfortunate” but fell short of apologizing for the comment.

Following pressure from Republicans to punish Omar, the Democratic House delegation drafted a resolution condemning anti-Semitism.

On Wednesday, however, the measure, which had originally been drafted as a response to Omar’s comments, was reframed as a general condemnation of bigotry, targeting not only anti-Semitism but also white supremacism and ‘Islamophobia’.

Republicans ripped the House’s Democratic delegation not only for diluting the resolution’s original focus on anti-Semitism, but also its failure to call out Omar by name.

PROTECTING DEMOCRACY

PROTECTING DEMOCRACY

JPOST EDITORIAL

We urge Netanyahu to refrain from attacking Israel’s legal authorities.

One of the foundations of any democracy is the judiciary. This consists of the courts as well as all relevant legal authorities – the State Prosecutor’s Office and the attorney-general.

For a democracy to thrive, the judiciary needs to retain its independence and be able to make decisions without interference from external processes or time lines. If not, the justice system will be constantly undermined and weakened by various actors who know how to take advantage of its vulnerabilities.

For that reason, Attorney-General Avichai Mandelblit was right when he decided to continue the investigations against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, even though elections were announced in late December. This made sense. Investigations need to be independent of elections since, if not, politicians will do exactly what Netanyahu did last year, and call early elections to try and avoid judgment.

This is all important to keep in mind as the attacks against Mandelblit begin following his announcement on Thursday that – pending a hearing – he will charge Netanyahu with bribery, fraud and breach of trust in the cases known as 1000, 2000 and 4000.

Speaking just hours after the official announcement from the prime minister’s official residence in Jerusalem, Netanyahu dismissed the decision to indict him as a politically motivated “witch-hunt.” “There is nothing to these (allegations),” he said in the televised statement. “There are rules for everyone, and other rules for Netanyahu and the Likud. This whole house of cards will fall.”

He then went on to personally attack State Attorney Shai Nitzan, who he said discriminates against politicians on the Right, like himself. In addition, he said, Nitzan engaged in “selective enforcement,” choosing to hunt Netanyahu while ignoring the wrongdoings of others.

We urge Netanyahu to refrain from attacking Israel’s legal authorities. While every suspect has the right and duty to fight and try to clear his or her name, launching personal assaults on Mandelblit and Nitzan is not the way to do that.

What Netanyahu is trying to do is undermine the validity and objectivity of the entire judiciary, and if he succeeds in doing that on a large scale, it could have a long-term negative impact on the State of Israel for years to come. Even suspects have a responsibility to safeguard the state, especially one who is also the prime minister.

Let’s also remember that Mandelblit was appointed by Netanyahu, comes from the right-wing and served as Netanyahu’s cabinet secretary. Netanyahu was the one who pushed for Mandelblit’s appointment as attorney-general.

The police chief who oversaw most of the investigations – Roni Alsheich – was also appointed by Netanyahu and used to live in a settlement in the West Bank. When he took the job as the country’s top cop, Alsh4ich – a former deputy head of the Shin Bet – was told that after his term in the police, he would be tapped as the next head of the security agency.

In addition, the state’s witnesses set to testify against Netanyahu are all former aides who worked closely with the prime minister, and include his former chief of staff, the former director-general of the communications ministry he appointed to the post, and his former personal spokesman.

To assume that dozens of police officers, investigators, prosecutors, legal experts and former top aides all conspired to bring him down is irresponsible at best and dangerous at worst.

It is an attempt to deflect from what is really happening and from the substance of the charges which reveal a prime minister who was obsessed with controlling the media and allegedly willing to break the law to achieve that goal.

This doesn’t mean that the case they built will stand up in court. For that exact reason, Netanyahu will receive a hearing before a final decision on an indictment is made.

If it goes to court, like any suspect, he will receive a fair trial and the right to appeal the final verdict.

Netanyahu needs to remember that there is a country bigger than even he is. If he really cares about it, as he says he does, he will stop attacking the judiciary and its representatives. Attack the substance, Mr. Prime Minister, not the messengers.

An Israeli-Arab Muslim woman spoke out about her love for the Jewish people and Israel on Saturday.

“You are one of the bravest Muslim women that I know,” Hananya Naftali, a minor Israeli YouTube celebrity, said in an interview with Sara Zoabi. “You are not ashamed of your love towards Israel and the Jewish people.”

“I am very proud, first of all, that I’m an Israeli Zionist Arab, and I have tied my destiny with Israel and the Jewish people, a peaceful nation,” Zoabi said. “The Jewish nation is an example of peace, an example of love.”

When asked why she felt so close to Israelis as opposed to Palestinians, Zoabi answered that she is Israeli.
“I am an Israeli, I was born here, I live here. Period,” Zoabi said. “I don’t feel any harassment and no discrimination because I am Arab. The opposite is true. As an Arab Muslim, I get all my rights.

Zoabi also said she enjoys living under Israeli rule and has no desire to live in a Hamas or Arab state.

The Anti-Israel Actions of the World Council of Churches

ISRAEL NEWSHow the Anti-Israel Actions of the World Council of Churches Were Exposed

The World Council of Churches (WCC) announced on January 29 that it was pulling its “ecumenical accompaniers” from Hebron due to “security concerns.”

The WCC’s flagship project, Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel (EAPPI), sends activists to Israel to “monitor” and “report human rights abuses.”

The program involves some 25-30 participants known as Ecumenical Accompaniers (EA) who operate on the ground for periods of three months, during which they work with fringe political anti-Israel organizations such as Be’Tselem and Breaking the Silence. EAPPI’s “extensive advocacy” includes sharing “first-hand experiences to open the eyes of their communities, churches and governments to the realities of occupation.”

The WCC’s activities have recently surfaced in the media, drawing fire from pro-Israel organizations over its illegal anti-Israel actions.

The exposure of the EAPPI’s illegal actions is the result of years of meticulous work and documentation.

Amit Barak, a resident of Nokdim in Gush Etzion and one of the Israeli operatives behind the EAPPI’s exposure, remembers first encountering them one Saturday in 2015.

It was on a Sabbath, and his wife called his attention to strangers in their backyard. Some he recognized as Israeli left-wing activists, but then he noticed foreigners wearing the EAPPI’s signatory brown vest.

They came every Saturday for five consecutive weeks, “to bother us, to make provocations, together with Israel radical left-wing organizations, together with Palestinian organizations,” he recalled.

After several such instances, “we decided to take the gloves off,” he said.

A local security official recalls receiving notification about suspicious-looking foreigners, possibly tourists, who were roaming around with maps. He arrived on site with IDF and police forces. The EAPPI activists presented themselves as “pilgrims” who were in the area for tourism. However, the maps they were carrying exposed them. They had detailed maps of the Israeli communities in the area with all sorts of markings and additional information, not tourism maps.

A search of their car exposed them as EAPPI activists, who had already gained a reputation as provocateurs. They were detained by the police.

Itai Reuveni, an NGO Monitor expert on anti-Israel activism, puts EAPPI into context.

Reuveni explained that “EAPPI is a project of the World Council of Churches, one of the biggest church organizations in the world.” EAPPI, Reuveni noted, is a project that sends “accompaniers” to areas of conflict in the world, but in practice, sends their activists exclusively to the “Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

While the stated goal for these activists is to observe and document human rights issues and report back to the church, “it’s a political project in disguise of human rights,” said Reuveni. EAPPI activists enter Israel on tourist visas, then dress in uniforms marking themselves as an official organization.

After following and documenting interactions between the Israeli army and Palestinians, these activists return to their home countries and lead anti-Israel campaigns, “most of the time with theologically anti-Semitic rhetoric.”

NGO Monitor, an independent research organization that tracks other non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that use the humanitarian banner as cover for anti-Israel activities, found a filmed lecture since deleted from the internet, of an EAPPI activist comparing Israel army actions in Hebron to Nazi gas chambers.

Reuveni adds that NGO Monitor documented two EAPPI activists using “extreme anti-Semitic” rhetoric on their social media accounts.

According to Reuveni, “This program is fully funded by European governments and European church organizations. All the organizations and governments know exactly what this program is doing.”

After the weeks of harassment from EAPPI activists, Barak founded the DMU project, a volunteer-based organization which is dedicated to exposing and documenting the illegal activities of anti-Israel operatives and providing the information to Israeli decision-makers and to the public.

Their reports show that EAPPI activists were involved in displays of support for terrorism. For instance, only days after the brutal terror attack at Halamish in July 2017 in which Omar al-Abed murdered Yosef Salomon, his daughter Chaya and son Elad, EAPPI activists visited the terrorist’s family.

In Gush Etzion, they work with Hassan Breijieh, spokesman for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terror group.

They know their activities in Israel are illegal, and deceive the authorities by portraying themselves as tourists and pilgrims, “using the name of Christianity,” as Barak explained.

Their activities to collect intelligence on Israeli security in the Jerusalem area were also exposed. From Jerusalem, they branched out to Hebron, where they documented the IDF’s operations.

“It’s very important to understand that they are [in Israel as] tourists, and for tourists, it is illegal to collect intelligence of military operations,” Barak underscores. “That’s what we found out they were doing in Hebron.”

“They are not a recognized organization in Israel, but they hire people, local informants, and in order to hire people they need some type of permits, and they get their permits through other organizations,” Barak added.

The reports were submitted to Israeli ministers and security officials.

The combined activities of the Israeli groups pressured the WCC into pulling its EAPPI activities out of Hebron, Barak said, while calling for their complete ban in Israel.

The WCC did not respond to TPS’ request for a comment.
