Israeli military strikes targets in Gaza; responds to Syria shelling with artillery

Israel Defense Forces on Monday responded with artillery fire into Syria after high trajectary fore was opened on IDF military posts on Mt. Hermon in the northern Golan Heights.

The shooting came from within Syrian territory in the early hours on Monday. No one was injured, and no damage was done. The artillery response was toward the sources of fire, IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement.

Pre-dawn Gaza strike

The Hermon exchange came only several hours after Israeli air force jets struck two targets in the Gaza Strip late Sunday night. The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said two Gazan terror-related targets suffered direct hits: one target was in the Strip’s south, and the other in its center. The IDF reported direct hits, and said all aircraft had returned safely to base. The strikes, the military said in a press release, were carried out in response to the firing of rockets into Israel. On Sunday evening, a rocket alert was sounded in Sha’ar Hanegev Regional council. No impact crater was found.

“The IDF will not tolerate attempts to harm Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers, and will act against anyone who uses terror against the State of Israel,” the IDF stated. “The terrorist organization Hamas is the address, and responsibility lies with it.”
