The central ceremonies of Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day are held annually at Yad Vashem on the night of the 27th of Nissan and on the following day.

On Wednesday night, May 4, 2016, the President, Prime Minister, dignitaries, Holocaust survivors and their families, and the general public will gather at Yad Vashem and participate in the Central Ceremony Marking Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Day.

During the ceremony six torches representing the six million Jews who perished in the Holocaust are kindled. The following morning, a wreath laying ceremony is held with the participation of dignitaries and official representatives of survivor organizations and many other institutions. Throughout the day the names of Holocaust victims are publicly recited in the Hall of Remembrance and other ceremonies are held at Yad Vashem. Towards the evening, the annual Ceremony for Youth Movements is held in the Valley of the Communities at Yad Vashem.
