“Nobody Wants This” creator Erin Foster has responded to recent comments made by the show’s lead actor, Adam Brody, who accused Israel of “genocide” and called for a “Free Palestine,” by saying that she does not agree with his views.

Foster is a guest on an upcoming episode of the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast, hosted by Amanda Hirsch. It will premiere on Oct. 27, but a teaser clip released on Thursday for the episode shows Hirsch asking Foster to share her thoughts on Brody’s recent interview with GQ magazine, during which he accused Israel of committing a “genocide” against Palestinians and expressed support for a “free Palestine.”

Brody plays a rabbi in “Nobody Wants This” who falls in love with a non-Jewish woman, played by Kristen Bell. The actor is Jewish but previously described himself as “not religious at all, a nonbeliever.”

“You know, it’s complicated,” Foster said when asked about Brody’s comments. “I think our work environment, our set is very similar to dinner tables around the world where people are having debate and discussion and disagreeing. And, you know, while I love Adam, I also disagree with him, and that’s okay.”

Foster then said she wants Jewish fans of the Netflix show “to know that I see you, and I hear you, and I understand how you feel.”

“The show has always been and always will be a love letter to Judaism. That is why I made this show,” she continued. “It’s because of how beautiful of an experience I’ve had becoming Jewish and being a Jewish person. And sitting here right now, at this time in the world when there is almost zero positive representation of Jewish people, I think it’s so important to have that, and that’s what this show is intended to be.”

“Nobody Wants This” is based on Foster’s own love life. She converted to Judaism before marrying her husband, Jewish record-label owner Simon Tikhman. They have a daughter who was born in 2024.

Foster went on to tell Hirsch that “everyone is entitled to a different opinion than me. I can just tell you what I created this show for, and what the intention of the show is.”

Earlier this month, Foster attended the Creative Community for Peace’s Ambassadors of Peace Gala in Beverly Hills and shared a message for young Jews around the world, telling them: “Be the thing that you want to be known for; be the thing that you want to see.”

“It’s very easy to get pulled into the negativity, arguing, yelling, and the social media wars. If you can stay above the fray and stay true to yourself, I think you will be seen for who you are,” she explained.

While talking to GQ, Brody said he had not publicly discussed the Middle East conflict in the past because it simply never came up during interviews.

“I just answer the questions I’m asked,” he said. “And it’s true. I’m not wearing a pin, so I’m not inviting a certain question, and perhaps I should. I really admire people who do. But 99 percent of what I’m asked about is about the show. I’m not trying to plead ignorance — here we are doing a political interview, so it makes sense that we wade into this territory — but I’ve never ducked a question, really, not a political question anyway.”

Season three of “Nobody Wants This” premiered Thursday on Netflix.
