Mor Karbasi
You wait 500 years for a Ladino singer to mix medieval Sephardic songs with a twist of flamenco, and then two come along at once. Following hard on the footsteps of Yasmin Levy comes the London-based Mor Karbasi. Songs such as “Shechahoret”, a traditional wedding song in Hebrew and Latin, have the familiar Ladino swoops up and down the octaves; the modern songs, with music by Karbasi and her musical partner, Joe Taylor, and many with lyrics by Karbasi’s mother Shoshana, are recognisably their descendants
