26 stycznia 1942 roku w warszawskim getcie oddano do użytku tzw. „kładkę” nad ulicą Chłodną.

W czasie okupacji Chłodna, jako ważna arteria wylotowa „aryjskiej” Warszawy, dzieliła getto na dwie części. To właśnie w tym miejscu znajdował się — jak określił to prof. Jacek Leociak — punkt kulminacyjny getta, a mianowicie wąski przesmyk, umożliwiający mieszkańcom dzielnicy zamkniętej przedostanie się z jednej jej części do drugiej.

Na północ od Chłodnej, która była ulicą aryjską (jedynie w pierwszym okresie istnienia getta, czyli do grudnia 1941 roku, część Chłodnej znalazła się w granicach getta. Był to około dwustumetrowy odcinek jezdni pomiędzy skrzyżowaniem z Żelazną a skrzyżowaniem z Wronią), rozpościerało się „duże getto” z przewagą najuboższej ludności. To tam mieszkała biedota, tłoczyli się przesiedleńcy, drobni handlarze i rzemieślnicy. Na południe zaś znajdowało się małe getto, w którym mieszkali ludzie zamożniejsi, swoista elita: inteligenci, bogaci mieszczanie. Tam też mieścił się m.in. Judenrat, a także, uchodząca za jedną z najlepszych ulic w getcie, ulica Sienna.

Chcąc usprawnić komunikację w najbardziej newralgicznym miejscu warszawskiego getta, na początku 1942 roku Niemcy przerzucili nad aryjską Chłodną drewnianą kładkę dla pieszych, natomiast dla ruchu kołowego, przede wszystkim riksz, które były najpopularniejszym środkiem komunikacji w getcie, zainstalowali na skrzyżowaniu Chłodna-Żelazna specjalne mechaniczne wrota.

Most zaprojektowany i wykonany przez firmę „Schmied i Muetzermann“ postawiono na wysokości budynków Chłodna 23 i Chłodna 26. Sięgał on poziomu drugiego piętra, dzięki czemu mogły pod nim przejeżdżać Chłodną „aryjskie” tramwaje, transporty niemieckiego wojska, samochody, co uwieczniono na licznych fotografiach, na których widać również licznych przechodniów. Z mostu rozpościerała się panorama na aryjską stronę Warszawy, widać było z niego m.in. Hale Mirowskie, wieżę strażacką, Ogród Saski, basztę Cedergrenu na Zielnej (budynek PASTY), krzyże kościołów, a nawet linię dalekiej Wisły. Nie bez kozery most nazywano Ponte dei Sospiri, czyli Most Westchnień.

Tak w swoim pamiętniku pisał o nim Henryk Makower:

A z góry mostu widok na „aryjską“, jakże dla nas wolną Warszawę. Ale nie pozwala się na tak drobną przyjemność. Policjanci na moście grzecznie, ale stanowczo proszą, aby się nie gapić i przechodzić dalej.

Ten drewniany most bardzo mocno wrył się w pamięć wielu osób, a także w wizerunek samego getta i to pomimo faktu, iż funkcjonował jedynie przez pół roku od stycznia do sierpnia 1942 roku. Po wielkiej akcji likwidacyjnej getta warszawskiego kładka przestała być potrzebna i została rozebrana. Jednak fakt, jak bardzo stała się symbolem, czy też emblematem getta, widać po tym, jak często pojawia się we wspomnieniach, a także w literaturze, m.in. w opowiadaniu A. Rudnickiego Wielki Stefan Konecki. Jest ona także obecna na wielu fotografiach, można wręcz odnieść wrażenie, że była jednym z najczęściej fotografowanych obiektów okupowanej Warszawy.

Hezbollah is expected to start mediating soon between Hamas and Iran in order to reconcile between both parties and bring Hamas, which is financed today buy the Gulf states, back into Tehran’s fold.

London-based Asharq al-Awsat reported on Thursday that the new mediation comes after Iran failed in its previous attempts to convince Hamas to announce its support for Iran in the Islamic Republic’s battle with Saudi Arabia for regional supremacy, in exchange for Iranian financial aid.

According to the report, Naim Qassem, the deputy secretary-general of Hezbollah, has invited the deputy chairman of Hamas’ political bureau, Mousa Abu Marzouk, to Lebanon to meet senior Iranian officials, including officers in Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The reported meeting is expected to take place after the end of reconciliation talks between Hamas and Fatah that will start in Doha in February.

Although it is desperate for money, Hamas will not easily relinquish its alignment with Saudi Arabia and take Iran’s side. Doing so will paint Hamas in the Sunni world as a traitor that collaborates with a regime which is accused of starving Syrian children to death.

The head of Hamas’ political bureau, Khaled Mashaal, has rejected Iran’s demand that Hamas side with the Islamic Republic at the expense of Sunni states in order to receive financial support, especially after Iran has ceased financing its biggest supporter in Gaza, the Islamic Jihad.

While Hamas needs Iran’s money, Iran strives to increase its dominance in the Middle East, especially as tensions with Saudi Arabia run higher, and improving its relations with Hamas can help it maintain its presence in the Palestinian territories.

Indoctrinating Swedish children

Textbooks which have Israel erased from the map and glorify terrorism – up until recently I thought that this was limited to schools in undemocratic Middle Eastern countries that consider Israel an enemy state. Now, however, these textbooks have appeared in Swedish class rooms and they are part of an international Palestinian campaign.

My organization, Perspective on Israel (PPI), has obtained exclusive educational materials that constitute a part of this campaign: textbooks in Arabic and that have been distributed among school children in the city of Malmö, Sweden.

The Swedish pro-Palestinian NGO Palestinian Centre for Justice (PRC) recently began to educate children in one or more schools in Malmö. In November and December of last year the PRC initially posted on their Facebook site photos of their teaching sessions but later removed these after I wrote about their tuition on the website of the Israeli Embassy in Sweden, and after a journalist started to ask questions about this too.

What kind of organization is PRC? In 2006 the PRC arranged the 4th Palestinians in Europe Conference in Malmö. Among the speakers in this conference was the terrorist leader of Hamas in Gaza, Ismail Haniyeh, whom the PRC calls ”Prime Minister”. This year, the NGO will host this annual conference in Malmö again. The PRC has connections to the Swedish government. In June of last year, the PRC had a meeting with Margot Wallström, the heavily criticized foreign minister of Sweden. According to the PRC website, the vice chairman of the NGO discussed foreign policy with Ms Wallström in the course of this meeting.

The PRC recently posted on their Facebook page an image for an anti-Israel demonstration, which featured a Jewish Star of David made from barbed wire. This is a way of disseminating hatred not only against Israel but also hatred against Jews, and it is a demonization of ancient Jewish symbols. It is completely unacceptable that the Swedish foreign minister meets with such an NGO, and what the organization is teaching children is despicable.

During the PRC’s teaching sessions in Swedish classrooms the anti-Israel propaganda textbook ”To Palestine I belong” was handed out to children in at least one Swedish school in Malmö.

What then, does the textbook teach Arab and, in particular, Palestinian children in Sweden? Firstly, the textbook ”To Palestine I belong”, which is written entirely in Arabic, includes a map of what is claimed to be Palestine. However, this map includes not only PA territories but also Israeli territories and mentions Israeli cities like Haifa, Be’er Sheva and Yafo – not, however, Tel Aviv. In other words Israel has been removed from the map and replaced by a Palestinian state. Portions of the textbook recount the Muslim history of the land of Israel. Jewish connections to the land prior to the Balfour Declaration are not mentioned, however. Israel is only referred to as ”the Zionist enemy” or ”the occupation”.

After the British terminated the Palestine mandate, the textbook states, ”the occupation” took advantage of the political situation in the Arab world and began its ”dangerous plan” to destroy the Palestinian cause through continuous ”war crimes against the land, the people and the holy shrines.” The textbook also informs the Swedish pupils that ”the occupation” (Israel) has Judaization projects under way in Jerusalem that will erase the landmarks of the al Aqsa mosque. Israel is also accused of confiscating lands and not permitting people to work.

The most controversial part of the textbook states that the children of Palestine began an intifada. The children confronted the ”Zionist machines and soldiers with their bare chests”, it claims. This language echoes the words of Hamas spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri, who has stated in Palestinian media that it is a successful strategy for the people of Gaza to confront the occupation with bare chests. The textbook appears to be influenced by the Hamas ideology.

It then informs the children that the Palestinian resistance is still innovating and developing its tools and equipments, combining these to create an ”heroic saga” in Gaza.The Arabic word for ”tools” in this context also means ammunition, and heroic saga can be translated as ”an heroic epic battle”.

There is also a cartoon of a boy who is about to throw something at a tank. The text above the cartoon reads: ”Fares Odeh, brave child from Gaza, confronting the big tank with his small rock”. In addition, it mentions that he was killed in 2000 and became a martyr.

This is a brief introduction to what is an international campaign to keep the Palestinian identity according to the textbook ”To Palestine I belong”. What Perspective on Israel has uncovered is a Palestinian campaign of indoctrination of Arab children in Europe to feel hostility towards Israel. It is propaganda, the purpose of which apparently is to make Palestinian children, and Arab children in general, identify with the Palestinian struggle, the Palestinian terrorism. The textbook also exists as an easy to print PDF file. This means that it comes in a format that can easily be copied, printed and distributed to an unlimited number of readers. By now, it may well be spread in many European countries.

I wrote an open letter about the PRC’s teaching to the city councillor Anders Rubin, who is the Social Democratic politician in charge of the schools in Malmö, but he responded that these kind of activities do not come under his jurisdiction. I also informed many other politicians in Malmö, but I only had a response from one party: the Sweden Democrats. Why are the remaining political parties silent?

The primary school director in Malmö, Anders Malmquist has confirmed that the photos of teaching sessions posted by PRC were shot in classrooms in Apelgårdsskolan, a municipal school in Malmö. So called ”Saturday School” activities have been arranged there and PRC’s teaching sessions and textbooks have been part of these activities.

Schools are meant to be places where children can obtain objective knowledge about the world, including Israel; not where they are taught to hate. Swedish politicians must ensure that children in Swedish classrooms are not indoctrinated to hate the world’s only Jewish state.

I hope the politicians will act, as this Op-Ed will be shared by more and more people to create awareness, nationally and internationally, with respect to how Swedish children in Swedish classrooms are being taught to hate. Swedish politicians must show that they will not permit a message promoting support for terrorism to be taught in Swedish schools.

If this type of textbook continues to be used in Swedish schools the consequences will be devastating.

Warszawa. 48 lat temu zdjęto “Dziady” Dejmka

30 stycznia 1968 r. w Teatrze Narodowym w Warszawie odbyło się ostatnie, jedenaste, przedstawienie “Dziadów” w reż. Kazimierza Dejmka, zdjętych z afisza przez władze jako “antyradzieckie”. Sprawa “Dziadów” stała się impulsem studenckich protestów i początkiem Marca’68.

Premiera “Dziadów” Adama Mickiewicza w reżyserii Kazimierza Dejmka odbyła się 25 listopada 1967 roku. W roli Gustawa-Konrada wystąpił Gustaw Holoubek. Zagrali także m.in. Kazimierz Wichniarz (Widmo), Damian Damięcki (Jakub), Bogdan Baer (Diabeł I), Lech Ordon (Literat), Jan Kobuszewski (Pelikan) i Igor Śmiałowski (Justyn Pol).

Przedstawienie spotkało się z ostrą krytyką kierownictwa PZPR. Po czterech pierwszych przedstawieniach poinformowano Dejmka, że spektakl może być grany tylko raz w tygodniu, młodzieży szkolnej nie wolno sprzedawać więcej niż 100 biletów po cenach normalnych, a reżyser ma odnotowywać reakcje publiczności.

Wezwany 21 grudnia 1967 r. w trybie nagłym do KC Kazimierz Dejmek usłyszał od Wincentego Kraśki, kierownika Wydziału Kultury, że jego inscenizacja “Dziadów” jest “antyrosyjska, antyradziecka i religiancka”. Władysław Gomułka nazwał spektakl “nożem w plecy przyjaźni polsko-radzieckiej”.

16 stycznia 1968 r. Ministerstwo Kultury i Sztuki powiadomiło dyrekcję Teatru Narodowego, że z dniem 1 lutego przedstawienie “Dziadów” będzie zawieszone.

Prof. Wojciech Roszkowski pisze, że do dziś nie wiadomo dokładnie, jakie czynniki partyjne zadecydowały o zdjęciu “Dziadów” – “gomułkowskie dla wykazania, że panują nad sytuacją, czy moczarowskie dla wzburzenia nastrojów”.

Ostatni spektakl, który odbył się 30 stycznia, zgromadził tłumy. W trakcie przedstawienia publiczność reagowała bardzo spontanicznie, wznoszono okrzyki: “Niepodległość bez cenzury!”, “Chcemy “Dziadów”!”, “Dejmek!, Dejmek!”.

Po zakończeniu spektaklu uformował się pochód, który skandując “Wolna sztuka! Wolny teatr!” przeszedł pod pomnik Adama Mickiewicza na Krakowskim Przedmieściu. W wyniku interwencji milicji zatrzymano 35 osób pod zarzutem “zakłócania porządku publicznego”.

Po demonstracji dwaj studenci – Adam Michnik i Henryk Szlajfer – poinformowali o jej przebiegu korespondenta francuskiego dziennika “Le Monde”. Wiadomości te zostały następnie rozpowszechnione przez Rozgłośnię Polską Radia Wolna Europa.

Od 1 lutego 1968 r. grupa studentów rozpoczęła zbieranie podpisów pod petycją do Sejmu, wyrażającą protest przeciwko decyzji zakazującej wystawiania w Teatrze Narodowym “Dziadów” oraz “polityce odcinania się od postępowych tradycji narodu polskiego”. W ciągu dwóch tygodni w Warszawie zebrano ponad 3 tys. podpisów, a we Wrocławiu ponad tysiąc.

Zdjęcie z afisza “Dziadów” wywołało oburzenie części środowisk intelektualnych. 29 lutego na Nadzwyczajnym Walnym Zebraniu Warszawskiego Oddziału Związku Literatów Polskich uchwalono przedstawioną przez Andrzeja Kijowskiego rezolucję potępiającą politykę kulturalną prowadzoną przez ekipę Władysława Gomułki. W dyskusji bardzo ostro wypowiadali się m.in. Jerzy Andrzejewski, Paweł Jasienica, Leszek Kołakowski, Antoni Słonimski i Stefan Kisielewski, który mówił o “skandalicznej dyktaturze ciemniaków w polskim życiu kulturalnym”.

4 marca 1968 r. decyzją ministra oświaty i szkolnictwa wyższego Henryka Jabłońskiego Adam Michnik oraz Henryk Szlajfer zostali skreśleni z listy studentów Wydziału Historycznego Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego za udział w demonstracji 30 stycznia i przekazywanie informacji zagranicznym dziennikarzom. Obaj należeli do tzw. komandosów, czyli grupy zbuntowanej młodzieży, opowiadającej się za rozszerzeniem swobód obywatelskich, przede wszystkim zniesienia lub przynajmniej ograniczenia cenzury oraz większej autonomii nauki i szkół wyższych.

8 marca 1968 r. na dziedzińcu Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego odbył się protestacyjny wiec. Wcześniej władze aresztowały studenckich przywódców: Henryka Szlajfera, Seweryna Blumsztajna, Jana Lityńskiego, Karola Modzelewskiego, Jacka Kuronia i Adama Michnika.

Zgromadzona na wiecu młodzież przez aklamację przyjęła rezolucję, w której stwierdzała m.in. “My studenci uczelni warszawskich, (…) oświadczamy: Nie pozwolimy nikomu deptać Konstytucji Polskiej Rzeczypospolitej Ludowej. Represjonowanie studentów, którzy protestowali przeciwko haniebnej decyzji zakazującej wystawienia “Dziadów” w Teatrze Narodowym, stanowi jawne pogwałcenie art. 71 Konstytucji. Nie pozwolimy odebrać sobie prawa do obrony demokratycznych i niepodległościowych tradycji Narodu Polskiego. Nie umilkniemy wobec represji”.

W rezolucji żądano również przywrócenia praw studenckich Michnikowi i Szlajferowi oraz umorzenia postępowań przeciwko innym uczestnikom demonstracji pod pomnikiem Adama Mickiewicza. Studenci poprzez aklamację wyrazili pełne poparcie dla rezolucji przyjętej przez pisarzy 29 lutego, solidaryzując się z nimi “w obronie kultury i swobód obywatelskich”. Wiec został brutalnie spacyfikowany przez ZOMO i tzw. aktyw robotniczy z warszawskich zakładów pracy.

Wiec 8 marca na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim stał się początkiem tzw. wydarzeń marcowych – kryzysu politycznego, fali studenckich protestów, walki frakcji wewnątrz PZPR oraz fali antysemickiej propagandy.

19 marca 1968 r. w Sali Kongresowej PKiN w Warszawie przemawiał Władysław Gomułka. Potępił antyradzieckie prowokacje w trakcie przedstawień “Dziadów” w Teatrze Narodowym i ostro skrytykował przebieg zebrania ZLP z 29 lutego – przede wszystkim wystąpienia Stefana Kisielewskiego i Pawła Jasienicy, którego brutalnie zaatakował, insynuując mu współpracę z UB. I sekretarz KC podkreślił żydowskie pochodzenie “inspiratorów” zajść na Uniwersytecie Warszawskim, “znanych z rewizjonistycznych wystąpień i poglądów”. Gomułka zapewniał, że walka z “syjonizmem” nie ma nic wspólnego z antysemityzmem. Gdy mówił o sprawach żydowskich, sala skandowała “Śmielej! Śmielej!”. Przy zdaniu Gomułki o prawdopodobnym opuszczeniu Polski przez “syjonistów” wznoszono okrzyki “Prędzej! Prędzej!”. Następnego dnia w całym kraju odbyły się wiece pod hasłem: “Jesteśmy z Wami, towarzyszu Wiesławie!”.

Według informacji Generalnej Prokuratury z 6 czerwca 1968 r. w związku z wydarzeniami marcowymi zatrzymano ponad 2700 osób, w tym 359 studentów. Przed kolegiami postawiono blisko 700 osób, w tym 143 studentów. Śledztwa wszczęto wobec 540 osobom, w tym 207 studentom. Do sądu skierowano akty oskarżenia przeciwko 262 osobom, w tym 98 studentom i pracownikom naukowym. Wśród nich znaleźli się Jacek Kuroń i Karol Modzelewski, którzy dostali po 3,5 roku więzienia, a także Adam Michnik z wyrokiem 3 lat pozbawienia wolności. W pozostałych procesach wyroki były niższe i wahały się od 18 do 24 miesięcy. Osoby zgadzające się na emigrację były zwalniane.

W latach 1968-1969 z Polski wyemigrowało ponad 15 tys. Żydów bądź osób pochodzenia żydowskiego. Wśród nich było m.in. ok. 500 pracowników naukowych, ok. 1000 studentów, a także dziennikarze, filmowcy, pisarze i aktorzy. W tym czasie wyjechało również ok. 200 byłych pracowników bezpieczeństwa i informacji wojskowej, odpowiedzialnych za zbrodnie stalinowskie.

W samej partii rozpoczęła się antysemicka nagonka personalna. Do końca marca 1968 r. z PZPR wyrzucono ponad 8 tys. osób. 80 funkcjonariuszy wysokiej rangi utraciło swoje stanowiska, 14 z nich pełniło funkcje ministerialne.

‘I’m proud of him.”

That’s what the father of Dafna Meir’s murderer said when the Palestinian media asked him what he thinks of his cold-blooded son Murad Adais.

On Sunday afternoon, Adais butchered Meir in her home, in front of her children.

Whether Adais Sr. is really happy that his son will rot in prison is less important than the fact that he said what he said to his home crowd.

He knows that his audience thinks his son is a hero. And so he played to his audience.

Since last September when the Palestinians began their current terrorist onslaught, killers like Adais have been characterized as lone wolves. But a study published last November in Mosaic online journal by Shalem College’s Daniel Polisar shows that this characterization is both wrong and unhelpful.

Polisar studied Palestinian public opinion data from surveys conducted by four independent research groups over the past 25 years. His data exposed three key aspects to Palestinian positions about Israel that all bear directly on the current Palestinian terrorist offensive.

His first finding is that throughout most of the past quarter-century a solid majority of Palestinians have supported terrorism against Israelis.

Moreover, the more murderous an attack, the more it is supported.

Polisar’s second finding was that the vast majority of Palestinians hate Israelis and believe that Jews have no right to the Land of Israel, and therefore our state has no right to exist.

Taken together, these first two insights lead to one clear conclusion about the nature of the current Palestinian terrorism campaign against Israelis. As Polisar explained, they show that this campaign is not being carried out by “lone wolves,” who have been incited by Palestinian Authority propaganda. Rather, that propaganda reflects the murderous hatred that the vast majority of Palestinians feel toward Israelis and Israel.

Adais and his comrades may or may not be members of terrorist groups. But they are the loyal representatives of their terrorism-supporting society.

Obviously, any talk of a peace process in this climate is utter folly. The most Israel can aspire to is to deter the hate-soaked Palestinians from attacking us.

This brings us to the third insight of Polisar’s study. Twenty-five years of survey data make clear that most Palestinians believe that terrorism pays.

And the plain fact is that they are right. For the past generation, the Palestinians have only benefited from killing Israelis through terrorism.

The fact that Israeli concessions to the Palestinians have strengthened their conviction that terrorism pays rather than convinced them to make peace shows that all concessions in the face of terrorism are dangerous.

While the majority of Israelis have learned this lesson and so elected governments that oppose appeasement, the Palestinians have learned that the Israeli public does not have the final word on whether or not they will be rewarded for their crimes against humanity.

The Palestinians believe that Israel is dependent on Western goodwill. So to the extent that the West pressures Israel surrender to Palestinian demands, the US and the EU work hand in glove with Palestinian terrorists and prove that they are right to murder mothers in their homes in front of their children.

This week US Ambassador Dan Shapiro proved the Palestinians right, yet again.

At the outset of his speech before the Institute of National Security Studies on Monday, Shapiro issued a pro forma condemnation of “barbaric acts of terrorism” against Israelis at the outset of his remarks.

But that was just clearing his throat. In his substantive remarks, Shapiro accused Israel of institutional racism in Judea and Samaria.

Shapiro’s slanderous accusation channeled and escalated his boss Secretary of State John Kerry’s anti-Israel libel from two years ago. In early 2014, Kerry alleged that if Israel didn’t cough up Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem soon, it risked becoming a criminal apartheid state in the future.

By falsely alleging that Israel uses one (lenient) law against Israelis and another (iron fisted) law against Palestinians, Shapiro gave substance to Kerry’s two-year-old assault. And in claiming that this state of affairs exists today, he transformed Kerry’s incendiary claim of an apartheid future into a defamatory rap sheet for current imaginary offenses.

The timing of Shapiro’s blood libel was significant for two reasons. First, the day after a Palestinian murdered Meir, and hours after another Palestinian stabbed another Jewish mother in the late stages of pregnancy, the US ambassador told the Palestinians that America blames Israel for their barbarism.

Shapiro maligned Israel just as the Council of Europe announced it was firming up its rules for labeling Jewish-made products from Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem and published a document on its plans for handling a unicorn called “the Middle East Peace Process.”

Both the EU’s announcement about labeling Jewish products and its document about the nonexistent “Middle East Peace Process” were notable for two reasons. First, they made no mention whatsoever of terrorism. As far as the Europeans are concerned, the only side preventing peace is Israel. And to bring peace, the EU calls for the Jewish state to be treated like Jews in Europe – that is, singled out for discrimination, abuse and insults.

The near simultaneity of Shapiro’s slander and the EU’s latest discriminatory steps against Israel tells the Palestinians that they should keep up their attacks. Israel will be hard pressed to launch an effective counterattack with the Americans and Europeans breathing down its neck demanding concessions.

The message these statements communicate to Israel is actually worse than that. The simultaneity of these remarks was not coincidental.

Neither was State Department spokesman James Kirby’s condemnation of Israel’s lawful land policies in the Jordan Valley, which was followed immediately by a similar condemnation by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and a call by the PA for a UN Security Council resolution against Israel. Taken together they show that we are in the midst of a coordinated US-led political offensive against Israel.

How is Israel supposed to defend itself against this coordinated terrorist-diplomatic onslaught? How can Israel keep the Americans and Europeans at bay and deter the Palestinians from murdering its citizens? Beyond the counterterror measures that are already being carried out, Israel needs to act on three levels.

On the diplomatic front, the government needs to change the focus of its public diplomacy.

The government currently accepts the false claim that the Palestinian terrorist onslaught is being carried out by lone wolves. Its public diplomacy is limited as a consequence to condemning official Palestinian Authority incitement.

This line is wrong and counterproductive.

It lends credence to the false conclusion that the assault is limited and can therefore be overlooked by Westerners eager to attack Israel.

In their public pronouncements, our officials should direct their remarks against Palestinian society as a whole. So too the government should attack the radical Left in Israel and in the West that supports a society that seeks to annihilate Israel, applauds barbarism and kills anyone who wishes to live at peace with Israel.

Wednesday, a storm erupted in England following The Sun’s publication of the findings of an undercover investigation of so-called human rights groups broadcast on Channel 2’s investigative news magazine two weeks ago. That investigation showed senior “human rights” activists Ezra Nawi from Ta’ayush and Nasser Nawaja from B’Tselem plotting to turn over to the Palestinian security forces a Palestinian who wished to sell land to Jews. Nawajah and Nawi acted with the full knowledge that he would be tortured and killed. In a heated debate in the British Parliament, lawmakers demanded to know why the government was funding B’Tselem with taxpayer funds. In other words, the lawmakers showed that a policy of exposing the barbarism of Palestinian society and the fanaticism of its Western supporters is effective.

The second area where the government must act is in its settlement policies. Although it will be difficult for Israel to face down the Obama administration and respect Jewish property rights in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem in the coming year, nothing is stopping it from destroying illegal EU-financed Palestinian construction in Area C.

The government should act forcefully to remove all of the EU-constructed illegal Palestinian settlements in Area C of Judea and Samaria. The place the government should begin demolition is at the illegal Palestinian settlement outside the national heritage site of Sussiya, just kilometers from where Dafna Meir was murdered. The dual purpose of that specific EU-financed illegal building project is to threaten the Israeli communities of Sussiya and Mitzpe Yair and to deny the historic significance of the ancient Jewish city of Sussiya.

Destroying the squatter community will send a potent message to the Palestinians and their Western abettors.

At the same time, the government should speed up the pace of building new Israeli communities across the armistice line from Sussiya in the northern Negev around Arad in state lands being threatened by the EU-supported Beduin who are working in coordination with the Palestinian squatters in the South Hebron Hills.

The final thing that Israel needs to do in the face of the Palestinian terrorism supported by Western political warfare is to rub the EU bureaucrats’ faces in the fact that Israel is succeeding where their governments are failing. It isn’t enough for Israel to call for the Jews of France and the rest of Western Europe to make aliya. Over the past two years, aliya from Western Europe has reached all-time highs. As the governments that single out the Jewish state for abuse prove on a daily basis that they cannot protect their Jewish citizens, more and more European Jews are heeding the call and moving to Israel.

But over the past several months, it has become apparent that for all our goodwill, Israel has not figured out how to absorb its newest citizens. Dentists, pharmacists and other professionals are chewed up and spit out by a bureaucracy of professional guilds whose protectionist licensing requirements are convincing many people to turn around and go back to Europe. The government must make it an urgent priority to break the guilds. It is far more important to enable Jewish professionals from France to work in their fields in Israel than to protect the antiquated licensing requirements of hidebound professional cliques.

Israel is under a coordinated assault by the Palestinians who hate us and the Europeans and Americans who are hostile to us.

Our options for dealing with this assault are not optimal. But they are formidable. If we make judicious use of them, we can flummox the White House and the EU, and at a minimum, we can begin to prove to the Palestinians that their faith in terrorism is no longer justified.
