New York Times Fears DC Shooting Could Fuel ‘Further Repression’ of Anti-Israel Activists

The New York Times started the week attacking the Heritage Foundation for a project aimed at combating antisemitism.

It was poor timing, given the shooting Wednesday night of two staffers of the Israeli embassy in Washington by a gunman shouting “free Palestine.” Heritage was able to respond: “Many have been questioning why Heritage launched Project Esther, our national strategy to combat antisemitism in the United States. Because antisemitism is leading to Jewish people being assassinated on the streets of our capital, that’s why.”

The Times countered with a news article expressing anxiety that “the killings also risked painting all pro-Palestinian activists, the vast majority of whom do not engage in violence, with the same brush, which could lead to further repression of their movement.” That’s quite an angle on the murder of Israeli embassy employees in the streets of Washington, that it creates the “risk” of “further repression” of the anti-Israel protests that the Times insists on inaccurately describing as pro-Palestinian. You can’t make this stuff up.

The original Times attack on Heritage, breathlessly headlined “The Group Behind Project 2025 Has a Plan to Crush the Pro-Palestinian Movement,” quoted as an expert “Jonathan Jacoby, the national director of the Nexus Project, a watchdog group that works to combat antisemitism and protect open debate.” The Times didn’t say that Nexus got started with $75,000 in grants from the Open Society Foundations, the George and Alexander Soros outfit that also pays anti-Israel protesters.

The Times article, which appeared on page one of the print paper on Monday, May 20, was particularly strange because it included a passage that described Jewish Voice for Peace as a Jewish organization.

The Times reported that the Heritage project “has drawn criticism from many Jewish organizations amid increasing calls for them to push back against the Trump administration.”

After the introductory reference to “many Jewish organizations,” the Times report went on immediately to quote one:

“Trump is pulling straight from the authoritarian playbook, using tools of repression first against those organizing for Palestinian rights,” said Stefanie Fox, the executive director of Jewish Voice for Peace. “And in so doing, sharpening those tools for use against anyone and everyone who challenges his fascist agenda.”

Recent polling has shown the overwhelming majority of American Jews reject Jewish Voice for Peace. The Algemeiner reported on a study earlier this year finding the group had a “record of support for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), an internationally designated terrorist organization with the stated goal of dismantling Israel and replacing it with a Palestinian state.”

The Algemeiner has previously reported that JVP argued in a recently resurfaced 2021 booklet that Jews should not write Hebrew liturgy because hearing the language would be “deeply traumatizing” to Palestinians.

A Heritage Foundation staffer, Yehoshua Jason Bedrick, said the Times was “smearing the Heritage Foundation.”

“If you actually *read* Project Esther, you will find that it’s not the fascist nightmare of the NYT’s fever dreams, but rather a sober and thoughtful effort to address the very difficult problem of foreign terrorist groups and their government sponsors attempting to weaponize our freedoms against us–while preserving our freedoms and respecting constitutional norms,” Bedrick wrote in a Facebook post.

The Heritage Foundation wants to combat the Hamasniks and the antisemites who are cheering on them and their agenda. The New York Times apparently thinks it’s the Heritage Foundation, rather than the Hamasniks, who are the real problem. The sad events of the past week made clear how misguided that is. And it’s just short of unbelievable, and well beyond grotesque, that, rather than ceding the point or just being quiet, the Times is reacting to the shooting by fretting that it might have the unfortunate effect of “further” repressing the anti-Israel activists.

Czwartego lipca 1946 roku w Kielcach (chyba) po raz ostatni udało się skutecznie zmobilizować ludzi w europejskim kraju do mordowania Żydów przy pomocy średniowiecznego hasła „Żydzi porwali chrześcijańskie dziecko”. To hasło działało wspaniale w całej Europie od 1144 roku, kiedy fałszywie oskarżono Żydów z angielskiego miasta Norwich o zamordowanie dwunastoletniego Williama. Te oskarżenia błyskawicznie „stały się” kultowe, tak kultowe jak dziś zawołanie „od rzeki do morza”. Przez stulecia roznosicielami tego morderczego kultu byli księża i zakonnicy, dziś główną rolę w rozpowszechnianiu morderczych plotek są przedstawiciele zawodu, który uprawiam od 1964 roku.

W Waszyngtonie członek skrajnie socjalistycznej partii zamordował pod żydowskim muzeum parę Żydów. Kiedy go aresztowano, machał wyjętą zza pazuchy kefiją i krzyczał „wolna, wolna Palestyna”. Dzień wcześniej, podsekretarz generalny ONZ ds. humanitarnych i koordynator ds. pomocy w sytuacjach kryzysowych, Tom Fletcher przekazał dziennikarzom następującą informację:

“Po drugiej stronie granicy stoi teraz pięć ciężarówek” – powiedział we wtorek (20 maja 2025) w wywiadzie dla BBC. “Nie dotarły do społeczności, do których powinny dotrzeć. To jest jedzenie dla niemowląt, żywienie niemowląt. Jest 14 000 dzieci, które umrą w ciągu najbliższych 48 godzin, jeśli nie uda nam się do nich dotrzeć”.

W Polsce natychmiast uderzono w dziennikarskie tam-tamy. Podnieceni dziennikarze Super Expressu pisali: „ONZ mówi, że 14 tysięcy dzieci może umrzeć w Gazie w ciągu 48 godzin”, dziennikarze TOK-FM krzyczeli: „14 tysięcy dzieci może zginąć z głodu przez następne dwie doby”. Komentarzy nie warto cytować, łatwo je sobie wyobrazić.

W kolejnym dniu ONZ próbowała zatuszować tę wypowiedź, BBC ostrożnie wycofała się, wielkie agencje prasowe nie próbowały dociekać, czy w Gazie w kolejnych dniach umarło z głodu chociaż jedno niemowlę. Dziennikarze pracowali dalej, nie trapiąc się tym, co powiedzieli dzień wcześniej.           

To nie jest odosobniony przypadek, to jest stały wzór. Dziennikarz przychodzi rano do redakcji, przegląda doniesienia BBC, Reutersa, AFP i pisze swój materiał. Te kompetentne źródła nie mogą przecież wprowadzać w błąd. Czy zastanawiacie się, dlaczego najwięcej fałszywych oskarżeń, lub jeśli wolicie to tak nazwać „nieścisłości”, dotyczy właśnie Żydów, tej samej grupy ludzi, szkalowaniem której przekazujący informację zajmują się przez stulecia? Jak ważne są te wasze nieścisłości? Jak bardzo pchają świat w kolejną przepaść?

Dziennikarz to prestiżowy zawód, niektórzy wolą ten zawód nazywać powołaniem, czują się namaszczeni, wspaniali jak średniowieczni zakonnicy, niemal święci, zawsze dziewice.

Czy macie czasem chociażby cień wyrzutów sumienia?

Danny Danon, izraelski ambasador przy ONZ zażądał przeprosin od Toma Fletchera. Nie, nie za tę brednię o 14 tysiącach niemowląt z Gazy, które miały umrzeć w ciągu 48 godzin. Za inną wypowiedź tego ważnego urzędnika ONZ. Fletcher 13 maja na forum Rady Bezpieczeństwa ONZ, raz jeszcze oskarżył Izrael o ludobójstwo. Tłumaczył się później, że to nie ONZ zawyrokowało, a sądy.

W liście skierowanym do tego oenzetowskiego biurokraty izraelski ambasador pisał:

„Miałeś czelność, jako wysoki rangą urzędnik ONZ, stanąć przed Radą Bezpieczeństwa i postawić zarzut ludobójstwa bez dowodów, mandatu i bez żadnych zastrzeżeń”.

Izrael odmawia dalszej współpracy z tym biurokratą, jak długo Fletcher nie powie wyraźnie, że Izrael nie dopuszcza się ludobójstwa. Jednak wypowiedzi biurokratów, orzeczenia kapturowych sądów w rodzaju Międzynarodowego Trybunału Sprawiedliwości, czy Międzynarodowego Trybunału Karnego nie miałyby tak wielkiego wpływu na opinie społeczeństw, gdyby dziennikarska brać nie stała się zakonem kultu nienawiści, gdybyście nie powtarzali oświadczeń o rzekomym ludobójstwie jako prawdy, gdybyście nie powtarzali informacji urzędników Hamasu jako faktów, tak jak gdybyście je mogli lub przynajmniej chcieli osobiście sprawdzić. Pytanie, czy macie chociażby przelotne wyrzuty sumienia, wydaje się być pozbawione sensu. Zarabiacie na życie ufając, że jesteście uczciwi, wyrzuty sumienia są niebezpieczne, jakikolwiek protest stanowiłby zagrożenie wyrzuceniem z zakonu.

Rzadko, niesłychanie rzadko, po przekazaniu fałszywej informacji, czujecie się zmuszeni do mglistych sprostowań. Czy możecie nie zdawać sobie sprawy z tego, że nawet wtedy nie zmienia to piorunującego wrażenia jakie na ludziach zrobiło wasze kłamstwo? Kiedy piszecie, że Izrael zburzył szpital zabijając 500 niewinnych osób, a po miesiącu zamieszczacie notkę, że jak się wydaje spadła tam na parking wadliwa palestyńska rakieta i zabiła kilka osób, to nie była tylko pomyłka, a sprostowanie nie miało na celu naprawienia zbrodniczej dezinformacji.

Czy informując o orzeczeniu Międzynarodowego Trybunału Sprawiedliwości, że wniesione przez RPA oskarżenie może mieć jakieś uzasadnienie, świadomie wybraliście bardziej wyraziste stwierdzenie, że Izrael popełnia ludobójstwo? Czy mogliście nie wiedzieć ani o powiązaniach rządu RPA z Hamasem, ani o powiązaniach ówczesnego przewodniczącego tego trybunału z islamskimi antyizraelskimi grupami? Czy mogliście nie znać życiorysu prokuratora Międzynarodowego Trybunału Karnego, który w oparciu o orzeczenie tamtego trybunału zażądał aresztowania izraelskiego premiera i ówczesnego ministra obrony Izraela? Obawiam się, że mogliście, że nie szukaliście tych informacji, strach przed narażeniem się przeorowi zakonu dyktuje unikanie wiedzy niepożądanej.   

Wasza praca oparta jest na autorytetach. Twierdzenie, że dziennikarz nie ma żadnych autorytetów, że dąży do przekazania prawdy i tylko prawdy, to tylko teoria. Przekonujecie samych siebie, że ONZ to niekwestionowany autorytet, czy jest możliwe, że nigdy nie słyszycie żadnych dzwonków alarmowych, że nigdy, nawet w rozmowach z przyjaciółmi nie odważacie się kwestionować tego autorytetu? Nie, zawsze widzimy wasz konsensus w tej jednej sprawie.

Dziennikarka Sky News prowadząca wywiad z izraelskim dziennikarzem Elonem Levy chce się dowiedzieć dlaczego Izrael wstrzymuje pomoc. Przez 9 minut izraelski dziennikarz wyjaśnia, że Hamas przechwytuje pomoc, że ta pomoc staje się nie tylko narzędziem kontroli palestyńskiego społeczeństwa w Gazie, ale jest źródłem dochodów Hamasu, który sprzedaje dostarczoną za darmo żywność po bajońskich cenach, że obecny mechanizm dostarczania pomocy to wspieranie Hamasu, tak jak przed 7 października naciski na Izrael, żeby ciągle zwiększał dostawy cementu do Gazy, były wsparciem Zachodu w budowie gigantycznej terrorystycznej twierdzy pod cywilną infrastrukturą tej enklawy. Elon Levy wyjaśniał, że Izrael nie głodzi mieszkańców, że dostarczył podczas tej wojny więcej żywności wrogiej populacji niż dostarczono w jakimkolwiek innym konflikcie zbrojnym. Po dziewięciu minutach zdumiona dziennikarka prestiżowego medium pyta „czy papież nie ma racji domagając się wpuszczenia pomocy do Gazy?”.

Jeśli sam papież tego chce, to o czym my rozmawiamy? Jej wyraz twarzy nie pozostawia wątpliwości, najprawdopodobniej jest ateistką, ale jest głęboko wierząca w autorytet katolickiego papieża na temat perfidnych Żydów. Dziennikarz donoszący o śmierci kolejnego palestyńskiego dziecka w siódmym akapicie wspomina, że chodzi o siedemnastoletniego mordercę zlikwidowanego podczas nożowniczego zamachu. Wyjątek? Sprawa wywołująca natychmiastowe oburzenie i potępienie ze strony kolegów? Przeciwnie, całkowity brak reakcji, środowisko, stowarzyszenia dziennikarskie całkowicie aprobują ten gatunek podżegającego dziennikarstwa. Nikt się nie oburza, nikt nie protestuje. Dziennikarz bredzący „Tel Awiw mówi” (Tel Awiw nigdy nie był i nadal nie jest stolicą Izraela), nie staje się przedmiotem kpin i żartów kolegów, dziennikarka dostarczająca ckliwą opowieść opartą na rozmowie ze zwolennikiem Hamasu, który wciska  jej kit, że żołnierze izraelscy ćwiczą się na strzelaniu zza muru do palestyńskich dzieci, nie wylatuje z redakcji, przeciwnie dostaje pochwały za znakomity reportaż.

Czy umiemy to wszystko zrozumieć, czy jest jakieś wytłumaczenie tego kultu nienawiści wśród dziennikarskiej braci? Tego unikania jak ognia informacji o ideologii dżihadu, tego co znajdujemy w arabskiej, tureckiej czy irańskiej prasie? Jak zrozumieć ten dziennikarski konsensus? Czy jest tu wskazówką fakt, że często, kiedy przekazujecie informacje fałszywe i podżegające do nienawiści, na wszelki wypadek zamykacie możliwość komentowania, żeby przypadkiem zalew nienawistnych komentarzy nie ujawnił, że odbiorcy waszych wiadomości czekają na tę dobrą nowinę i odbierają ją dokładnie tak, jak to sobie zaplanowaliście?                                                 

Wiem, dziennikarska brać nie czeka na mój list, nie zamierza go czytać, a jeśli któryś czy któraś przypadkiem przeczyta, pewnie dojdzie do wniosku, że nic nie rozumiem, bo przecież jesteście tacy śliczni i idylliczni. Wspaniali dziennikarze w ich wspaniałych redakcjach dostarczają codziennie w najróżniejszych postaciach to samo hasło: „Żydzi znów zabili chrześcijańskie palestyńskie dziecko”.  

Udajecie, że współczujecie Palestyńczykom, ale nigdy tym, którzy pragną wyzwolenia od Hamasu, udajecie że chcecie pokoju, ale takiego, który zachowa Hamas i Fatah przy władzy, udajecie uczciwych dziennikarzy nie odważając się na dyskusje o faktach, które świadomie i z premedytacją zniekształcacie.

Bestialska napaść na izraelskie osiedla 7 października z waszą walną pomocą gwałtownie wzmocniła odwieczną nienawiść. Mordowani Izraelczycy to byli głównie najwięksi zwolennicy pokoju, którzy świadomie zamieszkali w pobliżu Gazy, żeby budować mosty. Zamordowani w środę pracownicy izraelskiej ambasady w Waszyngtonie jak na ironię szli na spotkanie w sprawie pokoju z Palestyńczykami. Kielecki pogrom to odległa historia, dziś wy z miłością i oddaniem powtarzacie nowe wezwania mające na celu wzmocnienie odwiecznej nienawiści.

From the BLM riots to the DC shooting in five short years

The path to the surge in antisemitism can be traced to when the left embraced ideologies that made Israel and the Jews part of a toxic worldview about race.

The path that led Elias Rodriguez, a 31-year-old college-educated Hispanic man with a professional career working for a medical organization, to embrace a belief in “Free Palestine”—shorthand for the destruction of Israel—was likely complex. But however it started, it ultimately led him to act out that genocidal idea by killing two young Israeli embassy staffers in Washington on May 21.

To fully understand this tragic event and the way it marked the logical culmination of a period of anti-Israel and antisemitic agitation, it is necessary to place it in the full context of what has been happening on the American left since another watershed moment. The killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis policeman almost exactly five years ago on May 25, 2020, set off a summer of “mostly peaceful” demonstrations and riots across the United States.

The moral panic about race that ensued after that Memorial Day incident transformed political discourse and culture. And it marked the rise of an ideology associated with the Black Lives Matter movement that encompassed more than just the widespread belief in the myth that African-Americans were being routinely hunted and killed by the police. The belief in the toxic myths of critical race theory, intersectionality, settler-colonialism and woke catechism of diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI)—all of which became a new orthodoxy from which dissent wasn’t allowed—came to dominate American society.

An obsession with race

As we soon learned, the BLM mantra wasn’t merely a revisionist attempt to frame the United States as an irredeemably racist nation. Critical race theory divided the world into two immutable groups of people of color and white oppressors forever at war with each other. Unsurprisingly, this neo-Marxist mindset falsely categorized Jews and Israel as part of the “white oppressor” class, despite the fact that the majority of Israelis originate from other areas of the Middle East from which they were forced to flee or expelled.

It is only by referencing this dogma can it be understood why someone like Rodriguez would wind up murdering two strangers in cold blood because he assumed that both were Jewish and connected to Israel since they were attending an event at the Capital Jewish Museum.

The killing was carried out by a man apparently immersed in the politics of the far left and participated in “pro-Palestinian” protests. He shouted “Free, free Palestine” before being taken into custody and reportedly told police, “I did it for Palestine. I did it for Gaza.” The manifesto found at his Chicago home spoke of his belief that peaceful demonstrations against Israel were insufficient and that the “perpetrators and abettors of genocide” had “forfeited their humanity.” It also spoke of the “morality” of “armed action.”

This crime is being dismissed by some as a “lone wolf” incident that can’t be linked to fashionable “criticism” of Israel rooted in lies about Israel committing genocide or starving Palestinian babies. Others will dispute that it has anything to do with the anti-Israel cause, and the wave of antisemitism and hatred for the Jewish state and Jews that has surged since the Hamas-led Palestinian Arab attacks on southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Such assertions serve the purposes of those who wish to distance the murders from the widespread acceptance of blood libels against Jews linked to the war in Gaza against Hamas that Israel has been fighting for the past 19 months.

Mainstreaming blood libels

Since that date, the American left has treated Israel as the villain of the war that began with the largest mass slaughter of Jews since the Holocaust and views its efforts to eradicate Hamas as the real crime. With the help of the media, popular culture and the left wing of the Democratic Party, invective against Israel and open antisemitism has gone mainstream in a way unprecedented since the Second World War.

Such anti-Israel and antisemitic sentiments are not new. They’ve been part of the far left’s toolbox for more than half a century since the Soviet-inspired “Zionism is racism” campaign became a popular slogan in the Communist bloc and across the Third World. But the support it has gained in mainstream American political discourse—to the point where, as the latest Gallup tracking poll tells us, those who identify as Democrats now support the Palestinian cause over that of Israel by a staggering 59% to 21% margin, while Republicans and independents still overwhelmingly back the Jewish state—would have been unimaginable without the impact that the BLM summer had on American life.

The point being is that if you believe that America is racist, it’s that much easier to believe the same of Israel. At the heart of the turn against the Jewish state isn’t a reasoned critique of the Middle East conflict, which goes on because of the Palestinian Arabs’ consistent refusal to accept the legitimacy of a Jewish state, no matter where its borders might be drawn. Nor is it really about what is happening in Gaza since its Hamas rulers launched the current war, which could end the moment they release the remaining Israeli hostages and agree to surrender their rule over the Strip.

The argument about Israel isn’t about a belief in a two-state solution that the Palestinians don’t want or opinions about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his government. It is a conviction that Israel is a manifestation of racism, colonialism and oppression against people of color. That is why the mobs on college campuses and in the streets of American cities who have sought to make life intolerable for Jews act not merely out of extremism, but with a sense that their cause is just and linked to a great progressive crusade.

The effort to mainstream the idea that Israelis and Jews are guilty of horrible crimes that must be punished inevitably led to the Washington murders. As such, it is part and parcel of the way a radical BLM movement and its misguided liberal enablers, including those in the Jewish community such as the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee (the agency that sponsored the May 21 event that ended tragically) essentially legitimized a way of looking at the world that racialized political discourse.

Not every person who was duped into taking part in the BLM demonstrations that gained widespread support from political liberals in the summer of 2020 necessarily agreed with everything that movement espoused, including its hatred for Israel and antisemitism. Many, if not most, participants—aside from those who burned and looted city neighborhoods or attacked police in their thousands—thought they were merely expressing support for civil rights and outrage at an unjust, brutal killing caught on a video that went viral.

By the same token, it’s possible that some of those screaming for Jewish genocide (“From the river to the sea!”) and terrorism against Jews (“Globalize the intifada!”) don’t fully understand the implications of what they are saying or doing. The results, though, are now obvious: The Washington shooting exemplifies the fatal implications of mainstreaming such slogans.

Trump’s necessary pushback

Nevertheless, it is impossible to imagine or understand how we have arrived at a moment in American history when the public square is awash in antisemitic discourse without comprehending how the spread of “progressive” ideas about race and identity since May 25, 2020, made it possible.

The ubiquity of pro-Hamas mobs on college campuses and the violence directed at Jews in the last 19 months culminating in the murders on May 21, 2025, are a direct result of the success that leftists have had in indoctrinating so many Americans in their doctrines. Only by convincing students and so many others, like Rodriguez, who are immersed in fashionable notions that smear Israelis and Jews and valorize Islamist terrorists, could these lies about Israel, Zionism and Jews become so popular. The process by which the left completed its long march through our institutions that culminated in the BLM summer led just as inevitably to the deaths of two young people in front of a Jewish venue.

That is why so many well-meaning liberals and groups like the American Jewish Committee and others who have expressed their horror at the murder of 30-year-old Yaron Lischinsky and 26-year-old Sarah Milgrim—the two murdered Israeli embassy staffers—are wrong to oppose President Donald Trump’s efforts to rid American higher education of woke ideologues, as well as to deport foreign students who have violated the terms of their visas by taking part in antisemitic lawbreaking. If there is to be a much-needed pushback against the post-Oct. 7 surge in Jew-hatred, it cannot be separated from the false leftist doctrines that fuel it. Trump is seeking to attack the root cause of this hatred while his liberal critics look away from it to stay in sync with their partisan allies.

The madness that took hold in the United States after the killing of Floyd was more than just the result of COVID counter-measures that induced mass hysteria or the spread of misinformation about police killings. And it was more than a deliberate attempt to undermine the enormous progress in race relations since the passage of federal civil-rights legislation in the 1970s. It was part of a broader neo-Marxist assault on Western civilization and the values of the American republic that had been percolating on the far left for decades. But beyond that, it was also a necessary element in the destructive process that led to the wave of leftist Jew-hatred that culminated in the shedding of innocent blood on American soil.

The best way to honor the victims and to ensure that such horrors are not repeated involves more than just turning all American Jewish institutions, synagogues and communal buildings into harder targets, necessary though that may be. It also means supporting the Trump administration’s vital campaign to punish those colleges and universities that have tolerated and enabled antisemitism and to guarantee that woke ideology no longer dominates them. We now know that those who chant for Jewish genocide abroad will, sooner or later, resort to the same sort of violence at home. The trail of these murders leads directly back not just to Oct. 7 but to the BLM summer of 2020. Ignoring that brutal fact will only lead to more hatred and bloodshed.

France Boosts Security at Jewish Sites Amid Rising Antisemitism Following Washington Embassy Shooting

France has increased security at Jewish sites nationwide following the antisemitic shooting in Washington, DC, this week as the country’s local Jewish community calls for stronger government action amid mounting fears of escalating violence.

French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau ordered local law enforcement to “step up surveillance at sites linked to the Jewish community” after a gunman fatally shot two Israeli embassy staffers in the US capital on Wednesday night. The 30-year-old suspect who was charged with murdering the victims shouted “Free Palestine” as he was being taken into custody and said at the scene of the shooting, “I did it for Gaza,” according to court documents.

Shortly after the attack, prominent Jewish groups and leaders worldwide quickly decried the act of violence, expressing deep concern over the global rise in antisemitism. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot condemned the deadly assault as “an abhorrent act of antisemitic barbarity.”

On Thursday, Retailleau called for increased patrols around synagogues, as well as Jewish schools, shops, and events, with additional support from soldiers assigned to France’s domestic anti-terror unit. He also emphasized that security measures must be “visible and dissuasive.”

Local law enforcement has been stationed to secure the Israeli embassy in Paris, with increased patrols maintaining a strong presence around the area.

Ahead of the upcoming Jewish holidays, the French diplomat also called for “extreme vigilance” and urged local officials to closely monitor identity checks, bag inspections, and vehicle searches.

The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF) — the main representative body of French Jews — welcomed the latest security measures and government response following the deadly shooting.

Since the Hamas-led invasion of and massacre across southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, France has seen an alarming surge in antisemitic incidents, with 1,570 recorded last year, according to a report by CRIF.

In late May and early June, antisemitic acts rose by more than 140 percent, far surpassing the weekly average of slightly more than 30 incidents.

The report also found that 65.2 percent of antisemitic acts last year targeted individuals, with more than 10 percent of these offenses involving physical violence.

Following the antisemitic attack in Washington, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar accused European governments of spreading “toxic antisemitic incitement,” which he said contributed to the hostile climate that led to the fatal shooting.

“There is a direct line connecting antisemitic and anti-Israeli incitement to this murder,” the top Israeli diplomat said at a press conference, referring to the two Israeli embassy staffers killed on Wednesday night.

“This incitement is also done by leaders and officials of many countries and international organizations, especially from Europe,” Saar continued.

French authorities rejected such an accusation, calling it “outrageous and unjustified.”

“France has condemned, France condemns, and France will continue to condemn, always and unequivocally, any act of antisemitism,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine said in a statement.

European governments have strongly criticized Israel’s defensive campaign against the Palestinian terrorist group Hamas in Gaza, as well as its management of humanitarian aid to the enclave.

On Monday, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada issued a joint statement calling for a ceasefire and supporting the eventual establishment of a Palestinian state. The statement also accused Israel of causing starvation in Gaza — a claim that Israeli leaders have vehemently denied.

The three countries warned that “concrete measures” would be taken if the Israeli government does not end its renewed military offensive and significantly ease restrictions on humanitarian aid.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized the leaders of France, the UK, and Canada, accusing them of rewarding terrorism with their threats and condemning their stance as being on “the wrong side of history.”

“By asking Israel to end a defensive war for our survival before Hamas terrorists on our border are destroyed, and by demanding a Palestinian state, the leaders in London, Ottawa, and Paris are offering a huge prize for the genocidal attack on Israel on Oct. 7, while inviting more such atrocities,” the Israeli leader said in a statement, referring to the Hamas onslaught on Israel that started the current war.

“The war can end tomorrow if the remaining hostages are released, Hamas lays down its arms, its murderous leaders are exiled, and Gaza is demilitarized. No nation can be expected to accept anything less, and Israel certainly won’t,” the statement continued. “This is a war of civilization over barbarism. Israel will continue to defend itself by just means until total victory is achieved.”

Zamordowani przed Muzeum Żydowskim w Waszyngtonie

Zamieszczam to w osobnym poście, ponieważ bardzo mnie to boli: to była pierwsza rzecz, którą przeczytałem w sieci, kiedy obudziłem się wczoraj rano. Jeden z aktywistów  działających pod hasłem „Wolna, wolna Palestyna” zastrzelił parę młodych pracowników ambasady Izraela w Waszyngtonie. Niewątpliwie działał pod wpływem światowej fali nienawiści do Żydów, rozpalanej przez propalestyńskie i antyizraelskie ruchy w Ameryce (a właściwie na całym świecie),. Morderstwo miało miejsce tuż przed Capital Jewish Museum, również w Waszyngtonie. Informacja z „New York Timesa” (artykuł zarchiwizowany tutaj):

Jak poinformowali funkcjonariusze organów ścigania, dwoje młodych pracowników ambasady Izraela zostało zastrzelonych w środę wieczorem przed budynkiem Capital Jewish Museum w centrum Waszyngtonu. Zabójcą był mężczyzna, który po zatrzymaniu wykrzykiwał pro-palestyńskie hasła.

Do strzelaniny z bliskiej odległości doszło krótko po 21:00 na ulicy przed Capital Jewish Museum, gdzie American Jewish Committee organizował przyjęcie dla młodych dyplomatów. Obszar ten jest sercem oficjalnego Waszyngtonu, pełnym budynków federalnych, ambasad i muzeów. Kapitol, biuro terenowe FBI w Waszyngtonie i siedziba Departamentu Sprawiedliwości znajdują się w pobliżu muzeum.

Funkcjonariusze organów ścigania poinformowali, że podejrzany, 30-letni Elias Rodriguez z Chicago, został zatrzymany wkrótce po strzelaninie i nie stwierdzono żadnego zagrożenia dla bezpieczeństwa publicznego.

Pamela A. Smith, szefowa Metropolitan Police Department, powiedziała reporterom na konferencji prasowej, że Rodriguez po aresztowaniu go krzyczał: „Wolna, wolna Palestyna”. Poinformował również policję, gdzie porzucił broń, z której strzelał.

Ministerstwo spraw zagranicznych Izraela zidentyfikowało ofiary jako Yarona Lischinsky’ego i Sarah Lynn Milgrim. Według informacji ministerstwa, pan Lischinsky był asystentem badawczym w dziale politycznym ambasady, a pani Milgrim organizowała wyjazdy do Izraela.

Yechiel Leiter, ambasador Izraela, powiedział na konferencji prasowej, że dwie zabite osoby to para, która miała się zaręczyć. „Ten młody człowiek kupił pierścionek w tym tygodniu z zamiarem oficjalnego oświadczenia się swojej dziewczynie w przyszłym tygodniu w Jerozolimie”.

Ale jako że jest to „New York Times”, nie mogli się powstrzymać od zamieszczenia następującego akapitu:

Po śmiercionośnym  ataku Hamasu  na Izrael 7 października 2023 r. izraelskie wojsko rozpoczęło kampanię w Strefie Gazy, która  zdewastowała enklawę. Wywołało to falę protestów propalestyńskich, w tym przed ambasadami Izraela oraz na kampusach amerykańskich college’ów i uniwersytetów. Ambasada Izraela w Waszyngtonie była szczególnym celem protestujących.

Czy „New York Times” zapomniał, że protesty przeciwko Izraelowi i w poparciu Palestyńczyków rozpoczęły się natychmiast po atakach z 7 października, a Izrael rozpoczął inwazję na Gazę dopiero w tydzień później, a operacje naziemne prawie trzy tygodnie później? Ale to nieistotne; jasne jest, że Izrael nigdy nie zdobędzie sympatii świata, kiedy atakuje Hamas — najwyżej cień sympatii, na dzień lub dwa.

Kilka słów o ofiarach tego mordu z „Wall Street Journal”:

Nissim Otmazgin, dziekan Uniwersytetu Hebrajskiego w Jerozolimie, który uczył Lischinsky’ego, powiedział, że był spokojnym, pracowitym idealistą, chcącym budować mosty między Izraelem a innymi krajami. Mówił po angielsku, hebrajsku, niemiecku i po japońsku.

„Wiedział, że chce zostać dyplomatą. To było jego marzenie – powiedział. – Marzenie, które zostało zniszczone”.

Milgrim, która była Amerykanką, pracowała w departamencie dyplomacji publicznej ambasady Izraela i napisała na swoim profilu LinkedIn, że pasjonuje się budowaniem pokoju izraelsko-palestyńskiego.

„Jej energia, rozwaga i niezachwiana wiara w dialog, pokój i równość były inspiracją dla każdego, kto miał zaszczyt pracować z nią” – głosi oświadczenie Tech2Peace, organizacji, dla której pracowała Milgrim, a która łączy Palestyńczyków i Izraelczyków za pośrednictwem technologii. 

Nie ma żadnego usprawiedliwienia dla zamordowania tych młodych ludzi. Można powiedzieć, że pracowali dla Izraela, ale nie brali udziału w wojnie. Rozmawiałem z Małgorzatą dziś rano i ona uważa, że to morderstwo jest zwiastunem nadchodzącej przemocy; że może skłonić do podobnych mordów Żydów w innych miejscach. To właśnie oznacza „globalizacja intifady”.

Mam nadzieję, że Małgorzata się myli, ale nie stawiałbym na to. Jedno jest pewne: to zabójstwo nie zrobi nic, aby „wyzwolić Palestynę”. Gazę trzeba uwolnić od Hamasu.

Dyplomowany lewicowy morderca należał do partii politycznej wzywającej do eksterminacji syjonistów. Ta partia wydała już oświadczenie, że odżegnuje się od tego mordu i twierdzi, że od lat nie mieli z nim kontaktu, ale ich materiały nie pozostawiają żadnych wątpliwości, że ta grupa wzywa do przemocy przeciwko Żydom i ją aprobuje.

Tymczasem przedstawiciel Ministerstwa Spraw Wewnętrznych Jordanii oświadczył, że prawdopodobnie syjoniści sami zorganizowali to morderstwo, żeby odciągnąć uwagę od Gazy, założyciel terrorystycznej organizacji Samidoun, Khaled Barakat, napisał, że  „Zbrodnie Izraela w Strefie Gazy są przyczyną zabójstwa jego przedstawicieli w Waszyngtonie”; a koordynatorka tej organizacji napisała, że „To logiczne, że ludzie znajdą alternatywne sposoby wymierzania konsekwencji tak, aby zglobalizować intifadę”

Syryjski duchowny dżihadu Abu Jahja Al-Szami opublikował na Telegramie wpis chwalący mordercę i wzywający muzułmanów do pójścia w jego ślady. Skrytykował również muzułmańską „leniwość” w prowadzeniu dżihadu, obwiniając islamskich kaznodziejów o zmniejszenie zainteresowania dżihadem i twierdząc, że „niewierni” teraz przeprowadzają takie ataki, podczas gdy muzułmanie pozostają „bezczynni”.

Jerry A.
